2. USE OF FORTIFIED EYE
DROPS
INFECTIVE KERATITTIS
(BACTERIAL/FUNGAL)
At present, 4th generation
fluoroquinolones (Moxifloxacin and
Gatifloxacin) are commonly used
3. HOW TO PREPARE FORTIFIED
CEFAZOLINE (50 mg/ml) EYE DROP?
Get a vial of 250 mg of cefazolin
available(REFLIN 250 MG) & mix 5ml
of artificial tears in giving a
concentration of 50mg/ml.
Get a vial of 500 mg of cefazolin
available(REFLIN 500 mg) & mix 10
ml of artificial tears in giving a
concentration of 50mg/ml.
4. HOW TO PREPARE FORTIFIED
TOBRAMYCIN (13.6%) EYE DROP?
Inject 2ml of tobramycin (40mg/ml)
injection in a 5 ml bottle of
commercially available 0.3%
tobramycin drops
fortified tobramycin (13.6%) can be
helpful for bacterial ulcer caused by
gram negative organisms.
5. HOW TO PREPARE FORTIFIED
AMPHOTERICIN B (0.15%) EYE DROP?
Step 1: - Mix 10 ml of sterile water in 50 mg of
Amphotericin-B powder. This will give you 5mg/ml
solution.
Step 2: - Take 3 ml (15mg) from above solution and
mix 7 ml of sterile water. This will give you 15mg/10ml
i.e. 1.5mg/ml i.e. 0.15%
Keep this solution on a refrigerator door. Drops are
clear yellow in colour if they turn milky then discard
them.
