• Voluntary (striped)- 7
• 6 muscles (4 recti and 2 obliqui)- move the eyeball
• 1 muscle- LPS- elevates the upper eyelid
• 3 involuntary (smooth) muscles- superior tarsal
muscle, inferior tarsal muscle & orbitalis muscle

• 4 recti- SR, IR, MR, LR
• 2 obliqui- SO, IO
• 1 LPS

• Insertion- to sclera in front of equator of eye ball
behind the corneo scleral junction (limbus)

6. Obliqui
• Superior oblique –
• Origin-orbital surface of lesser wing of sphenoid
medial to common tendinous ring
• Insertion- to sclera ,posterosuperior quadrant of
eyeball behind the equator
• Inferior oblique-
• Origin- orbital surface of maxilla
• Insertion- to sclera , posterosuperior quadrant of
eyeball behind the equator, close to the SO
