Descriptive Essay On Rain
It's cool and dark outside of the car as we drive, dark clouds hovering over the plains as fat, heavy
drops of water fall from the full clouds. The lights of cars and streetlights and cars blur with the
flow of water on the side windows, our speed not fast enough to force the drops to flow back
along the windows. It's not until we start on the highway and the water starts to move that I find
my objects of interest in front of me in the form of the rain and the memories of my childhood
that surface with them. The rain on the windshield was and still is pleasant to watch. The way the
drops clump together and make small rivers that travel up the window before being slashed at by
the windshield wiper. It's calming to watch the water move as it wants, making new trails as the
wind fights to push the raindrops upwards. It reminds me of a sort of game I used to play when I
was little and watched the rain run across the windows. I used to always imagine that the rain that
gathered at the bottom of the window near the wiper motors where all the little water people that
needed to get away because they were trapped there unless they could collect into a big fat drop
that could carry them out of reach of the wipers when it went by. I always imagined that they
were escaping to little space pods that would bring them to the outer edge of the window that I
considered to be outer space where it was safe, and the side windows as the paths they had to take
to get home. When I was young this little game would entertain me on long car rides. I was never
fond of the windshield wipers. The way the black arms would come to push away all the escaping
water, cutting off the paths of the little droplets and flinging some away while shoving the rest back
into the bottom of the window. As a child, it made me frustrated that it would always ruin the
departure of the make–believe escape pods. I hated the sound the wipers would occasionally make
when the window was too dry to give it a slick path to slide over. It was also ugly and reminded
me of some sort of weird arm that was devoid of muscle or flesh, much like a skeleton which was

The First And Hardest Part Of Writing An Essay
The first and hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out how to start. A professor may give a
topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic.
The topic will serve as your thesis. You want to pick a topic that you are relatively knowledgeable
about so you are not completely in the dark. By picking a topic that you know even a little about,
will take away the anxiety of not knowing where to start or what to write about. If you chose to

Improvement In My Writing
Throughout the year, my scores in writing have gone up and down but has shown a general increase.
My current writing average is higher than my writing average at the beginning of the year which
shows my improvement. My biggest problems in my writing have been MLA formatting, grammar
mistakes, and commentary. At first, I made MLA formatting mistakes constantly with my margins,
contractions, spacing, and headers. My first few writing assignments were filled with MLA
formatting errors but over time, as I lost points from MLA formatting errors, I learned to avoid

Reflection Of Creative Writing
Over the course of the semester, I have had the privilege to read and discuss my classmates' writing.
Having a mix of large and small group discussions have allowed me not only to help others improve
their writing, but to learn about different writing styles and techniques. Throughout the course, I

He enjoys writing flash fiction because he does not have to commit to a piece of flash as much as he
does to a longer piece. He has contributed several six–word stories to our class discussion board,
pieces he thoroughly enjoys writing. For him, six–word stories are interesting to write because of
their short word limit. Typically, Robinson loves writing with a ton of description and tends to use
a lot of words. However, in a six–word story, every word counts. Therefore, writing this type of
flash challenges him to play around with different words in order to meet the word count. A
technique Robinson uses to write six–word stories is to "write down whatever sounds good." For
example, "Peanut butter stuck between my teeth." When creating this piece, Robinson was
suffering from writer's block. He simply jotted down a few words and liked the way they
sounded together. The piece had no original meaning to him, but his readers are able to give the
piece meaning. He uses this method of writing again when he writes, "Rain drops, Angel's tears,
God's piss." Like the first piece, Robinson did not write this for it to "make sense", but to give his
audience the opportunity to search for a meaning if they choose to, or enjoy the combination of

A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole
crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them
were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as
something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with
its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer
tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that
most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's
of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term
applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it.
Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made
contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an
accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be
some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort

Why I Am Writing An Essay
Essays are important because they let people revel their personalities. Many individuals have a
problem with writing due to writers blockage. Why is this? Starting an essay can be the most
challenging part. Often times students over think the topic and draw a blank. Instead they should
think of ideas and start jotting down the ideas. There will be time in later drafts to correct mistakes
and improve the written material. When I am writing an essay I concentrate primarily on timing,
ideas, and editing. Before I begin the process of writing I choose a time that I can relax without
interruptions. I enjoy being alone when I am writing because I can concentrate; where as, if I try
to write with my son awake I am constantly stopping what I am doing to help him. By stopping in
the middle of the thinking process I loose my train of thought. I have a hectic schedule at this
point and time. With that being said I have designated three times throughout the day that I can
sit, think, and write. After I get my son on the school bus I prefer to start gathering the ideas I

Reflection On My Writing Skills
Reflection
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have
changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were
amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are
also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level
that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class,
particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things

Throughout this semester there are many skills that I have noticed have improved through the
constant writing of essays for this class. The one that I find most noticeable is a habit I had long
struggled with which was essentially my tendency to be over necessarily wordy when writing my
essays. I believe that I was able to somewhat fix this subconsciously, just by knowing that I was no
longer in high school, and could no longer get by with just attempting to fill up my word count. I
also believe I have greatly improved in my topic selection. In high school I would throw caution to

How My Writing Has Improved
After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the
skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at
grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
Nevertheless, I hope that this strategy will continue to help me improve my writing even further
on in the future. My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the
poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of
expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult
for me because I can't always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive
and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I

My Experience with Writing
There are many experiences that have shaped the way I write today. For example, during my
senior year at Plainfield Central High School, I struggled with finding a way to put my paper
together using ideas and words of my own. My senior English teacher always said, "Writing a paper
is not always just citing what you found on a website. Youneed to add your own thoughts and
comments to make your paper more personal." She sat down with me after class and worked on
my paper with me to try and teach me a way to find my own words and it worked. She had me
write the paper before finding any type of citations on the internet. That way, it was all my own
words and then I could find my sources and add them in there and delete anything of my own if
needed. Another example is, when I was sitting at my kitchen table struggling to find the words
to make the paper have good detail. My mother looked at me and said, "Write how you want it to
be written. Write it in the way you believe will make a good paper." That has helped me
tremendously because when I write how I want to write, I generally like how my papers turn out so
much more. Another thing that has helped me was, about one time every week I would sit down
and write about anything I can think of. It could be what I am looking forward to doing in the future
or even just what is on my mind at that moment. I realized that the more I write, the better I get at it.

Having taken many writing classes I have learned many things about writing. I enjoy writing and
can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to

My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research
paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for
weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough
information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but
when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course

My Writing Experience
Reading and writing has always created a sense of understanding for me in my art. Reading in the
literal sense is a way that we understand text or symbols in our minds which in turn create meaning.
Writing also in a literal sense is our way of communicating our knowledge and emotions to others

I feel that organization is both a strength and a weakness in my writing. Free writing is something
that helped me gain a better sense of my ideas and through this I was able to create more structured
ideas. However, the formation of a structurally sound essay that contains writing that flows was

I remember when I started kindergarten. It was August 27, 1990. I'm still a little angry about that
day because it was my fifth birthday and I still remember that I didn't get to wear a crown on that

I also went through a phase in junior high where I bought non–fiction diaries of teenagers that
struggled through different problems. Those always kept me entertained and they were the type
of books that I could never put down. Reading was never something that I just did in school. I did
it whenever we had free time in class, after school, and at night before bed. It was always one of
my hobbies. I also found writing very interesting. I enjoyed writing papers for all of my English
classes. Every one was a little different and every year I truly believe that I became a better writer.
I learned different ways to write and I believe that I always met my teacher's expectations in my
papers. I remember in fifth grade I had to write my first autobiography. That was the only time
until now that I got to write entirely about myself. It's a project that I'll never forget. My teacher
gave us about a month to write this paper and put a book together. The book consisted of my paper
and pictures all glued to construction paper. In that autobiography I wrote about my time growing
up, my family, my friends, my hobbies, etc. My parents still have that book. It was such an
impacting project. It was really nice to reflect on my time growing up and the things I enjoyed.

  • 1. Descriptive Essay On Rain It's cool and dark outside of the car as we drive, dark clouds hovering over the plains as fat, heavy drops of water fall from the full clouds. The lights of cars and streetlights and cars blur with the flow of water on the side windows, our speed not fast enough to force the drops to flow back along the windows. It's not until we start on the highway and the water starts to move that I find my objects of interest in front of me in the form of the rain and the memories of my childhood that surface with them. The rain on the windshield was and still is pleasant to watch. The way the drops clump together and make small rivers that travel up the window before being slashed at by the windshield wiper. It's calming to watch the water move as it wants, making new trails as the wind fights to push the raindrops upwards. It reminds me of a sort of game I used to play when I was little and watched the rain run across the windows. I used to always imagine that the rain that gathered at the bottom of the window near the wiper motors where all the little water people that needed to get away because they were trapped there unless they could collect into a big fat drop that could carry them out of reach of the wipers when it went by. I always imagined that they were escaping to little space pods that would bring them to the outer edge of the window that I considered to be outer space where it was safe, and the side windows as the paths they had to take to get home. When I was young this little game would entertain me on long car rides. I was never fond of the windshield wipers. The way the black arms would come to push away all the escaping water, cutting off the paths of the little droplets and flinging some away while shoving the rest back into the bottom of the window. A professor may give a topic to be written about, but in some cases that may not happen. The first step is to pick a topic. The topic will serve as your thesis. My current writing average is higher than my writing average at the beginning of the year which shows my improvement.   • 11. Reflection On My Writing Skills Reflection My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. How My Writing Has Improved After this semester of English 102, at Bristol Community College I feel that I have gained the skill to articulate what I want to convey to the reader in many ways. I don't just look at grammatical error, but instead I look for ways to make my sentences more effective and concise.
