BUSINESS INVESTIGATION
The small business, which is located on Jalan Sungai Raya Dalam, next to BumiBatara 1, in
front of cafe, is selling satay as its product.It has been running for nearly a year. It uses cart to
keep everything for the business. The place is chosen as its business spot because the owner
can only find one place to stay. The reason why the owner runs satay business is that making
satay is what he is really capable of. The owner cooperates with the café in providing the
facilities and drink.
The satay it offers is quite delicious, has an inexpensive price, Rp12,000, and guaranteed to
be satisfied once eating a portion of the satay. Compared to the other satay businesses which
exist along Jalan Sungai Raya Dalam, it is very suggested that people who really like satay try
this product.
The seller said that the total cost to run his business was nearly Rp2,300,000. It consists of
Rp2,000,000 Fixed Cost and Rp300,000 Variable Cost. The variable cost is spent daily.
However, the cost might be less than Rp300,000. The reason is that the remaining ingredient in
the current day of selling can be sold for the next day.
The Turnover is said to be Rp200,000 in minimum rate. In this case, it can be assumed that
this business incurs loss because the daily cost, variable cost, is higher than the earnings.
However, since the turnover is only the minimum rate, not the average one, and the variable
cost can be lower than Rp300,000, there might be possibilitythat the business gains profit.
There are many businesses which offer the similar product as the business. However, the
owner of the satay business sees the competition as the reason why business exists. He said
that business exists to find competition and is useless without competition.
The business which is running in front of café is a good one. The service provided by the
seller, in this case the owner, is very good. His attitude which is friendly and polite pleases the
consumers who eat at his place.
However, the business can be hardly known by many people who live in Jalan Sungai Raya
Dalam. It is due to the existence of other business which covers the satay business. The
business, which is offering siomayand batagor, is placed in front of the cart of satay business. In
this case, there are not many people know that the satay business exists, except those who
ever go to the café or buy batagor orsiomay.
In addition, the satay business seems to have no goal to be achieved. It could be proved
when the owner was asked about having his own place, he responded by saying that it might be
difficult.Thus, the business is run just for working and working only without any objective to be
reached nor strategy to do.
