2. Shutter Island
Teddy.
In the beginning Teddy is shown as a respected character and a powerful man when
traveling to the hospital form the criminally insane because he was represented as a
detective. However the clues given to the audience near the end show that he was
searching for himself; the reason he was ‘sent over’ to shutter island was to ‘find’ a female
prisoner, Rachel that went missing.
In the film he is referred to as ‘boss’ a lot in the film, this shows his power he thinks he has over
everyone else and also is called a ‘legend’ once in the film.
During the film he starts to get headaches and is forced to take aspirin , he then blanks out
and has visions of his wife telling him to leave the island and not to return because it isn’t safe.
– that is a sign to the audience that something is going to happen and give more clues to
suggest he is the prisoner.
Teddy is represented as a formal, well dressed heroic man. However in the middle of the film
he is shown as a venerable victim and is picked on and treated unfairly.
3. Hot fuzz.
Nicholas Angel
Police Constable Nicholas Angel is London's most exceptional officer, with an impressive arrest
record and a determined and hard working attitude, that earns him a deserved promotion to
Sergeant. But when his superior's send him away, without any objection from himself, to the quiet
and seemingly crime free village (so he thinks) of Sandford in Gloschestershire, on the grounds of
being too good of an officer, Nicholas becomes nervous that his flare may be stifled whilst also
attempting to cope with his colleagues who don’t seem to corporate with his ideas and work.
He also becomes heavily involved with a well meaning, adrenaline and action-movie loving officer
named P.C Danny Butterman whose policing skills leave a lot to be desired and his slow wit and
inquisitive nature only add to Nicholas' hardship but nonetheless, a friendship begins to mature
between them.
When a series of grisly "accidents" begin to rock the village, Nicholas and Danny attempt to piece
together the goings on and soon, when no one believes Nicholas he decides to take it as his own
reasonability to piece the puzzle together.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean
Captain Jack Sparrow
A pirate ahead of his time in many ways, Jack Sparrow likes to consider himself as the epitome of a
free spirit. He swishes his way through life with a slightly odd, but strangely wise attitude.
But he still is smart enough to survive in a tough world without resorting to force to get what he wants.
In fact he once said, "Why fight when you can negotiate?" This leads to some people seeing him as
a coward and truth be told Jack is not heroic in the straightforward sense.
Jack also has an eternal love of rum, like many other pirates and this adds to his representation of a
pirate, and is immensely proud of the Black Pearl, originally the "Wicked Wench", his ship. The first
Pirates of the Caribbean movie focuses on his quest to reclaim the Pearl. So through out the whole
series he is shown as a joyful, jolly pirate with a wide sense of humour.
