The NRSS-29 project is the largest private sector transmission project in India that was developed to help meet the growing power demands of Jammu and Kashmir. The region suffers from blackouts during winter and needs to import most of its power, despite its hydropower potential. The project strengthened transmission infrastructure to deliver over 1,000 MW of electricity from Punjab to the Kashmir Valley. It overcame challenges of difficult mountainous terrain, inclement weather, remote locations, and security issues by using helicopters to transport over 3,500 tons of materials. The project is now operational and delivering the needed power.
