2. The artwork I chose to replicate was her project in which she looked at others without
saying any words. I found this different, yet, a lot of the people who participated all had
different looks on their faces. Marina herself looked as though she was absorbing what
the others went through from all different walks of life. Her ex-husband then participated
which Marina did not know about before and they had not seen each other in many many
years. She started to cry, but kept her absolute look. You could feel her emotions through
the look on just her face. I also learned she had a toilet built into her seat since these
were long sessions.

3. I chose to take a picture of my fiance looking at himself. Marina was
able to look into others, but I think that understanding yourself must
come first before you can understand others. This would be my
interpretation of her work.

4. I chose Ai Weiwei as an artist because I love his passion to speak out against politics and wrongful
doings by his government. We need more artists like this and people to speak out and make
statements against the things that they believe are wrong. Ai uses social media a lot to get his
message out and his works of art are always created to make a strong statement. He took this
photo after he was detained in the elevator and posted it to social media. He wanted to get the
message out to others and hoped that this did not happen to anyone else.

5. As seen here in photos for Ai’s documentary, he
speaks through strong political pictures and is not
afraid to speak out against his Chinese government.

6. This picture has been taken only as a representation of artwork. This does not express my political views.
If Ai Weiwei was in the United States creating art and taking pictures of
what he believes in I think this might be something he would do. There
is a lot of controversy about President Obama and has been from the
beginning about whether or not he was a natural citizen and even now
from people across the U.S. as to whether he is doing everything he can
for THIS country. If I were Ai, I would post something like this to social
media to make a statement.
7. Mark Bradford – I absolutely loved this photo and description
by Mark Bradford on his ‘Bad Ass’ piece. He talks about how he
uses multiple layers and how he uses words because they can
bring meaning and can make you expand how you think about
something.
8. So Me
I chose to make a collage with letters to make words. They do not have
multiple layers like the work of Bradford, but all of these different
colored, shaped, sized and formatted letters combine well to make the
statement ‘So Me’. In other words, I think this described myself because I
am different, playful, fun and multiple different words can describe who I
am as a person.
