Politics And Power Motifs In Julius Caesar
Abraham Lincoln once stated "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." In Lincoln's statement a
key term is power, which means the ability or right to control people or things. Another important term in Lincoln's statement is adversity, which
means a difficult situation or condition. Taken as a whole, Lincoln means that all men can handle a difficult period by themselves easily, but when
someone has power and battles a situation it makes a person corrupt and harder to handle situations. This is because when you have power it is easier
to do the wrong thing. Furthermore, Lincoln implies in his statement that power defines a person and power can change a person, most of the time for
the bad. Finally, when looked under the lens of William Shakespeare's tragedy Julius Caesar,Abraham Lincoln's statement can be proven true through
Shakespeare's development of the politics and power motif. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Cassius is talking to Brutus at the Senate house before the funeral oration. Cassius is telling Brutus that he does not think it is a good
idea for Mark Antony to speak at the funeral oration (III.I.237–260). This clearly demonstrates Brutus' judgement is naive and impulsive because he
does not see the bigger picture and he believes he is more rounded than Cassius. Brutus should not be the one to make that call since he does not
know politics he knows law. This affects the work as a whole because when Brutus let Antony speak he turned all the people against the conspirators
and made the conspirators run away in fear for their life. This example clearly shows that the Lens is true because it starts to show the beginning of
Brutus downfall with power and his

Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery
I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing the big movers in the field of occupational therapy
and eating disorder recovery, I felt I was grasping at nothing. I did actively pursue many authors of papers that focused on OT and ED but received
no response. This was regardless of my mode of communication, zero phone calls back and emails unresponsive. I decided to change my approach to
this and stepped outside of the field of OT. This is when I found a professional willing to speak with me.
I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has been practicing since 1998. I found the contact
information for Phelps through the eating disorder treatment team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the
interview on March 2nd at her Waterville office. I chose to pursue this interview with Phelps because I perceived her to be client–centered and she
mentioned using various approaches that I am interested in implementing when I'm working with clients that would like to utilize them. These
approaches included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind–body perspectives. Upon arrival I learned that though Dr. Phelps is on the ED
treatment team for the Waterville area, she has not had much experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among all
practitioners in the state of Maine. My first question to Miranda was why

What Does Maine Mean To Me Essay
I may be an elected senator for the great state of Maine, but one of the best experiences in my life was simply growing up in Hancock county on the
edges of Acadia National Park. I would venture into Bar Harbor sometimes to watch the fisherman bring in the day's findings and see how excited the
tourists were to go whale watching. Just walking around, people watching as I liked to do, I learned a lot about our states industries and what made the
economy thrive, the other crazy, lucky inhabitants of our beautiful state, and the issues that plagued it, too. TheMaine I grew up in is not the same state
that I represent today, which is why I ran for this office in the first place. I know Maine. I love Maine. Everything I do, is in the best interest of Maine.
The demographic makeup of our state has changed dramatically over the last couple decades. Our population is getting older, transitioning out of the
work–force and child–bearing years. Individuals under 18 and between the ages of 50 and 64 are the predominant age groups and the young citizens
we do have are not enough to replace the baby boomer generation. Our state's population is growing ever so slightly, but it is due to migration into the
state, evident by our death rate eclipsing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to watch the percentage of those in poverty decrease, not increase. However, in order to do that, I have a different plan of allocation. Rather than direct
cash assistance, I want our welfare system to focus on food assistance programs, utility subsidies, benefits to those pursuing higher education, and

Dorothea Dix : The Right Time
On March 28, 1841, Dorothea Dix was invited to teach a Sunday class at East Cambridge, Massachusetts women 's jail. The invitation was at the right
time because Dix have already heard how horrible the conditions and treaments of the mentally ill were in Massachusetts, it was just not justified.
After her class she toured the jail and was appalled by what she had discovered. The innocent, guilty, and the mentally ill were combined in the
unsanitary, crowded, cells of the East Cambridge jail. In addition, a keeper in the jail stated that the prisoners did not need heat or ventilation because
they did not need it. With a strong character and high morality of Dorothea Dix, she immediately took action that led to the betterment of the ... Show

Dorothea Dix contributed so much for the betterment of treament and condition of the mentally ill and was achieved with her strong will and
compassion for the degraded.
Dorothea Dix accumulated many powerful men in the government to help and support her in her movement. One of her many loyal supported
was Dr. Samuel G. Howe. He was a physician and an advocate for the education of the blind. Dr. Howe was appointed chairman of the committee
regarding Dorothea Dix 's first proposal of better treatment and condition in the mental institutions in Massachusetts. He greatly impacted Dix 's
first memorial success. In one of his letters to Dorothea Dix, he stated, "I presented your Memorial this morning, endorsing it both as a memorial
and a petition" (89). She gathered powerful men such as Senate Hon. Joseph S. Dodd who through him, Dorothea Dix accumulated several
supporters in establishing the foundation of the asylum in the State of New Jersey, "It was first on January 25, 1845 that her first Memorial to the
Legislature of New Jersey was presented to the Senate by Miss Dix 's stanch supporter, Hon. Joseph S. Dodd" (110). It also important to take into
account how determined Dorothea Dix. She was not in favor of getting in contact with political men because she considers then biased and selfish for
personal gain (). However, she bypassed all her uncertainty in order to improve and help

Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper
From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of burdens and obstacles. While growing up in Maine
throughout the early 1800's, her journey began with her impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea's father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious
preacher and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff, History.com 2009). Growing up as the
eldest, Dorothea felt a responsibility to take great care of her siblings and family. Ultimately, her family's shortcomings and her compassion were what
fueled her desire to help the less fortunate and helpless.
With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion for education and learning. As she grew older, she
acted upon her passion and became a schoolteacher for children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up various schools
for children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009). However, after experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped
her teaching and began to write educational textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820's to the 1840's (Wood,
Andrew G.).

How Did The Maine Collapse
"Remember the Maine!" The cry that could be heard throughout the United States and projected the Spanish American War into action. To what does
this battle cry pertain? The mysterious explosion and sinking of the U.S.S. Maine on the shores of Havana, Cuba led to many investigations, much
speculation, and eventually, the United States declaring war on Spain on the soil of Cuba. How did the U.S.S. Maine explode? That is the mystery that
is still partly unsolved today. It is known that a magazine exploded, but what set the magazine off? There are two theories that remain: (1) the
magazine was set off by a mine under the water – an external initial explosion or (2) spontaneous combustion of the coal in the bunker next to the

Maine Is An Ideal Place
When considering various locations around the world, an individual will most often learn to associate a place with it's common attributes. For
example, Florida is associated with Disney World, Tennessee is associated with the music industry, and New York is known for the busy streets which
make up Times Square. However, Maine's most common attribute is much more breathtaking than any other one can bring to mind; snowmobiling.
With the exception of the few major cities located within Maine's borders, Maine is comprised of small, quaint towns who survive mainly because of
the abundance of small, hardworking, local businesses. These businesses most typically consist of family owned and operated restaurants, gas stations,
and inns, but can be stretched to include dealerships of all sorts as well. Though these businesses work tirelessly to thrive, they possess a demand for
customers outside of just local residents. Fortunately, Maine's whether conditions are generous enough to bless Maine with the recurrent abundance of

Governor Lepage 's Administration And The Vermont State
ackground Governor LePage's administration and the Maine State Legislature have been in gridlock for many months over the proposed two–year state
budget beginning July 1. Maine faces the real possibility of a state government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year if that a budget agreement is not
reached June 30th. The most recent state government shutdown lasting 16 days occurred in 1991 when then Gov. John McKernan failed to reach an
agreement with the state legislature about workers compensation reform.
The legislative leaders as well as Governor LePage's administration downplay the possibility of a shutdown, and have all stressed their commitment to
avoid this drastic measure. However, LePage's often adversarial relationship with the legislature and battles over MaineCare funding must not be
downplayed. LePage's administration is not offering any insight as to how the administration would conduct state government if a shutdown occurs;
however, it will fall to LePage to decide which government services are essential and will continue in the event a budget agreement is not realized and
a shutdown occurs.
Like many nonprofits in the last several decades, CHCS has been affected by unexpected shifts in funding and must be prepared should a shutdown or
any other significant loss of funding occur. CHCS receives just under 80% of its operating funds directly or indirectly from the State of Maine. In the
unlikely event of a state government shutdown, as executive

The Chesapeake Region and The New England Region Colonies...
The Chesapeake region and New England colonies greatly differed in their development of their two distinct societies. The Chesapeake region was a
loosely fitted society with little connection with each plantation while the New England colonies had tightly knitted communities with a sort of town
pride. The difference in unity and the reason for this difference best explain the significant disparity between the dissimilar societies.
The New England and Chesapeake region had evolved into two different societies because the world was changing and a lot of people didn't like the
change that was taking place so they left. For example, the Church of England was said to be corrupted. That is one of the main reasons for the
separatists. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The great lack of unity between the colonists in the Chesapeake region is evident the events that occur later in the Chesapeake regions history.
Governor Berkeley asking for troops from England revealed the important point that unity was greatly lacking, as they could not fend off the united
Dutch assaults with the lack of unity among the rich and the poor (Document G). The hunt for greed in the Chesapeake region led to a strong
revolt from Bacon. The lack of doing anything for the safety of the citizens of the Chesapeake region by Governor Berkeley led to a strong revolt
by Bacon (Document H). The New England residents were resourceful and unified as shown in Document E as they worked out their problems and
therefore set a standard wage for all workers. The very seeds of the first settlers arriving in each area founded all these problems and solutions.
With the different types of people being sent to each settlement, both had different objectives and outcomes. New England from the very beginning
was determined to work together for two goals: to preach and to follow the ways of God. The had to become tightly knitted as one and do everything
from mourn to dance with one another. The New England colonies or the Massachusetts Bay colony in this case acted as a "city upon a hill" where
everyone else especially God was watching their every movement. If they did false against God then they

woman started hallucinating on bath salts while driving and decided to pull over on the highway and exit her vehicle with her two children ages 2

Comparing Marge Piercy's Barbie Doll And Richard Cory
The ugly truth Being an outcast in society is not fun. People just want to be accepted for who they are and live their life in peace. That can be hard

matter how happy someone looks on the outside, they may feel miserable and destructive on the inside. Both stories compare and contrast two
perspectives from a man and a woman; they demonstrate how society affects them both in different ways. The reality of what you perceive from

taxpayers were less than pleased– calling it a complete waste of money. But in Auburn– and schools around the country– trends are emerging and

Although the study lasted just 9 weeks, the results were promising. When tested, students who received their iPads in the first week of school scored
higher in 9 out of 10 areas, compared with children who did not. One area in particular really stood out: recognizing sounds and writing letters.
Kindergartners with iPads gained 13.72 points, compared to an 11.58–point gain for students who did not have iPads. That difference is significant,
said Mike Muir, the Multiple Pathways leader for Auburn schools (Auburn Report: iPads).
When pupils use iPads, more learning does not seem like a far stretch. With 100's of learning apps available for download, teachers are able to

Theme Of Just Mercy And Shawshank Redemption
In Bryan Stevenson's book "Just Mercy" and Stephen King's movie "Shawshank Redemption", injustice is brought up frequently. Injust is shown
through racism, money, and mental illnesses. Bryan and Stephen use great examples and details to explain how injustice is obviously in today's court
systems.
Throughout "Just Mercy", Bryan stevenson talks about a woman named Trina Garnett. She was a 14 year old with mental disabilities who was
abused, homeless, and lonely. As a child, she was abused and raped repeatedly by her father, who also raped her mother and sisters. She was charged
with second degree murder because she snuck into a boy's house and lit a match which burned down the house, resulting in the murder of the two
boys in the house. For this crime, she went in front of a judge at the young age of 14 years old. Additionally, the judge did not agree with the
sentencing he would have to give Trina for the crime. He was required to give her life sentence for a crime that was an accident. The trial itself was
unjust due to the fact that her mental disabilities and childhood were not taken into consideration when her sentencing was given. Likewise, many
young people are sent to prison for life for something they did due to their unstable childhood and lack of adults present in their life. Trina's
disabilities and age at the time of the crime should have been taken into the contemplation of how her life would be from there on out. This also goes
along with Walter McMillan's case and how his was unjust because of his race and relationships. He was convicted of shooting a white woman
because he was black. The authorities needed to calm the town so they put him on death row for six years before he got out. Within "Shawshank
Redemption", Stephen King shows how Andy, the main character in the movie, is wrongfully accused due to injustice in the court system. Andy was
married to a woman who he loved dearly. This woman ended up cheating on him with another man and getting caught by Andy. Additionally, his wife
and her lover were making love one night and Andy was wanting to confront her. He walked around drunk, armed, and motivated to talk to her. Later
on, he realizes he was stupid to go there and leaves after

How To Write The Story Of A Short Story
The terror, which would not end for another twenty–eight years – if it ever did end – began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet
of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain. The boat bobbed, listed, righted itself again, dived bravely through treacherous whirlpools,
and continued on its way down Witcham Street toward the traffic light which marked the intersection of Witcham and Jackson. The three vertical
lenses on all sides of the traffic light were dark this afternoon in the fall of 1957, and the houses were all dark, too. There had been steady rain for a
week now, and two days ago the winds had come as well. Most sections of Derry had lost their power then, and it was not back on yet. A small boy
in a yellow slicker and red galoshes ran cheerfully along beside the newspaper boat. The rain had not stopped, but it was finally slackening. It
tapped on the yellow hood of the boy's slicker, sounding to his ears like rain on a shed roof ... a comfortable, almost cozy sound. The boy in the
yellow slicker was George Denbrough. He was six. His brother William, known to most of the kids at Derry Elementary School (and even to the
teachers, who would never have used the nickname to his face) as Stuttering Bill, was at home, hacking out the last of a nasty case of influenza. In that
autumn of 1957, eight months before the real horrors began, and twenty–eight years before the final showdown, Stuttering Bill was ten years old. Bill
had made the boat beside which George now ran. He had made it sitting up in bed, his back propped against a pile of pillows, while their mother
played Fur Elise on the piano in the parlor and rain swept restlessly against his bedroom window. About three–quarters of the way down the block as
one headed toward the intersection and the dead traffic light, Witcham Street was blocked to motor traffic by smudgepots and four orange sawhorses.
Stencilled across each of the horses was DERRY DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS. Beyond them, the rain had spilled out of gutters clogged with branches
and rocks and big sticky piles of autumn leaves. The water had first pried fingerholds in the paving and then snatched whole greedy handfuls – all of
this by the third day of the rains.

Causes Of The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 helped to mend the relationship between the north and south. All the states in the Union were in an argument over
what the new states should be – free or slave states. With the conflict steadily rising a congressman came up with a solution to alleviate the tension.
This compromise set the tone for the rest of the civil rights time period. It ended after holding peace for a few decades. The Missouri Compromise of
1820 relieved the intensity of the problems between free and slave states' political power.
The north and south have been arguing over slavery since 1787 when the constitution was signed and our government came to be. Before the westward
expansion began, it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, to balance out the political power, Maine, who had wanted to be its own state for some time now, would be added as a free state. The
second part of the compromise was that an imaginary line would be drawn along the southern border of Missouri. This imaginary line would become
the dividing line between free and slave states in the North and South and be known as the 36В° 30В° line.
The North would not be allowed to have slaves, and the South would have slaves. Both sides were okay with the Compromise because both sides
benefitted from it. The Compromise was finally approved by President James Monroe on March 6, 1820. The signing of this document change slavery
in the United States. The peace from this Compromise in the states lasted for nearly three decades.
The Compromise of 1820 changed a lot of things about new states entering the Union. With westward movement being such a big deal during this
time frame, it created a few complications. Starting out, in theory, it was a good idea. However, All the new states would be divided into 2 factions
based on their beliefs on slavery. Where you lived determined what your view on slaves and how you felt about slavery.
The Compromise only lasted a few decades before complications arose. At the start, a free state was admitted for every slave state that was admitted,
and vice–versa. California violated this when they were admitted as a free state in

INFLUENCE OF POPULATION MAKE-UP AND GROWTH TO THE HISTORY...
The westward movement gained momentum rapidly after the Revolution. The frontier advance, slowed by the Indian uprisings, was quickly
resumed after 1815 when Britain no longer gave support to various Indian tribes. The availability of cheap land that could be purchased on credit
because of the Harrison Land Law made the areas west of the Appalachians to the Rockies very appealing. The movement can be likened to a
procession of settlement. The first settlers were hunters, traders and explorers. After them, farmers began to settle the land to give the region stability
for the United States. By 1820, there were 6 persons per square mile in the east of the Mississippi. As new people came into the lands, they went

Representative James Tallmadge of New York introduced an amendment to the Missouri statehood bill that would have 1) prohibited the further
introduction of slaves into Missouri and 2) would have freed at the age of 25 all children of slaves born in Missouri after its admission of statehood.
Sharp angry debate over the rights of Congress to legislate on the slavery issue ensued. It was the first time the issue of whether or not slavery was
good for the United States was discussed in Congress. It became apparent in the debate that the balance of Free State representation and slave state
representation in the Senate would be critical in other debates. The Free states already had more voted in the House. With the Tallmadge Amendment,
the South feared that the prohibition of slavery by Congress in Missouri would set a precedent to eventually lead to the absolute prohibition of slavery in
the United States. The Tallmadge Amendment passed the House but was deadlocked in the Senate. The first break in the debate towards a solution
began in 1820 when Maine applied for statehood. The essential provisions of the Missouri Compromise provided: 1) that Missouri be admitted as a
slave state and Maine be admitted as a free state and 2) that the territory north of the 36'30В° (Missouri's southern border) be "forever free." This
permitted new states admitted south of this line to become slave states. This appeared to be a settlement to the debate until Missouri admitted a

Causes And Effects Of The Missouri Compromise
Effects of Missouri Compromise The Missouri Compromise was a temporary solution to the issue of slavery and territorial rights such as the
movement West. Two areas of land wanted to become states in 1820, known as Maine and Missouri. Maine wanted to enter as a free state with no
slavery as everyone in that area was against it and wanted it abolished. Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state and was all for slavery and wanted it
to be spread all throughout the country. The compromise everyone came into conclusion with, was that there would be no slavery allowed north of
36В° 30' latitude. This angered the Southerners because their intention was to promote slavery not have it abolished. They realized that this
compromise threatened the balance between free and slave states; Maine and Missouri. In order to expand slavery, the South felt that the United States
would need territory from Mexico. The only area of land left was in Arkansas and that line became known as theMissouri Compromise line. The impact
that the Missouri Compromise had on the United States was tremendous and had many effects on issues such as national politics, the institution of
slavery, and the overall togetherness of the nation as a whole. America's states were being shattered in the fact that the states were turning against one
another and fighting for what each geographical state believed in. The Northern more states wanted slavery to be abolished and to treat them like
humans, however the South

Tary Taryn Welch: One All-American Woman
I would say Taryn seemed like your typical run of the mill college sophomore, but I would be lying. From the very moment she walks into a room,
Taryn has this presence about her. Even though she may not answer every question the teacher poses, her presence is felt as a quiet strength
throughout the class. I hoped to (and did) interview Taryn because I wanted to know what made up this confidence, this persona that showed such a
strength without even saying so much of a word. I was not surprised at the strength that I found in her, shown by her responsibility, but I was
surprised to find that she still had a fun side in her love for adrenaline and that she had a good sense of humor not often found in many others. She may

Prior to us watching "Shawshank Redemption" as a class, I have seen the movie before and never really thought about the legal aspects of it prior to
this class, but now it has opened my eyes and my perspective to what goes on ethically and most importantly legally. In the movie, "Shawshank
Redemption", Tim Robbins who played Andy Dufresne was accused of a murder in which he did not commit. Andy, is an accountant who was
convicted of murdering his own wife. The court found the defendant guilty and was sentenced to two–life sentences in Shawshank prison. Andy
Dufresne was just an innocent banker that was just sentenced to basically life in prison. Andy a well–educated man and probably has never had any
other altercations with the law besides unpaid parking tickets or violations. While entering to Shawshank, Andy did not really get intimidated like the
other new inmates did when they got off the bus, Andy was calm, cool, and collected when entering the prison. Andy mostly kept everything to
himself until he encounter "Red". Andy would eventually make friends inside the prison walls, and his main friend was Ellis Boyd Redding where
he was better known as "Red". During his time in prison he kept to himself and was very calm about everything, to a point where he was introduced to
his new hobby of shaping stones/rocks into chess pieces. Andy would do this activity just to

Life Of The American Born British Inventor Hiram S. Maxim
The Life of Sir Hiram S. Maxim
John Hernandez
Southeastern Oklahoma State University Abstract
The objective of this research paper is to document the life of American–born British inventor Hiram S. Maxim. The topics include an introduction into
his early life, his many job experiences, his inventions and the ensuing success. His success then allowed him to follow his interests in aviation. The
method of research is primarily from biographies, encyclopedias, published articles, and various internet resources. Much of the history documented
about him deals with the invention of the Maxim machine gun. Although this invention was undoubtedly his biggest success, it is only a fraction of

His employer Daniel Sweat owned a mill that had become infested with mice. This inspired him to begin working on an automatic mousetrap. He
perfected the invention and in doing so got rid of the rodent problem that was plaguing his employer's mill. Many consider this to be his first notable
invention, although he did seek out a patent for it.
His other professions included an instrument maker and a mechanical draftsman. He worked for his uncle, Levi Stephens, at an engineering firm in
Massachusetts. While in Boston he worked at a scientific instrument shop and later went on the work at a shipbuilding firm in New York. These
various experiences gave him the skill to create more inventions.
In 1866, at the age of 26, he received his first official patent for a curling iron. He also invented a coating for blackboards that was so successful that
large numbers of his specially coated blackboards were sold throughout North American (Dartford Technology). These inventions were followed by a
machine that would produce illumination gas and a locomotive head lamp.
These inventions combine with wealth of experience at a seemingly early age got the attention of Spencer D. Schuyler, founder of the United States
Electrical Lighting Company. In 1878 he was appointed chief engineer of the first electric lighting company in the U.S. It was there he began working
on various electrical devices and solidified his importance in the field of science and technology.

Two Maines: Urban Vs. Rural
Often we hear that Maine can be broken up into two separate bodies based on terms of socioeconomic status, urban vs. rural, or even North vs.
South. Maine is a diverse state, and the idea that there are, "Two Maines," is a plausible theory that can be applied based on these terms. Based on
urban–rural division, the state could be divided in two, with the counties who have coast line, including Androscoggin, and Kennebec rely heavily on
their fishing industries and tourism for their economy. The Northern counties, on the other hand, rely more upon agriculture and farming to support
themselves. This divide also separates rural from urban, where "large" city centers are found near the coast, and the rural population is more
predominant in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Northern counties of Maine do not cater to trade, nor do they focus on tourism, but largely are involved with the agriculture industry of the state
growing crops such as potatoes, eggs, strawberries, and blueberries. In rural Maine, economic activities are rather stagnant, and in some cases even in
decline. Many of the Northern counties have a difficult time finding enough tax revenue to pay for basic services due to this economic stagnation. In a
census done by the federal government it was found that the population of Northern counties were comprised of approximately 17% of elderly above
the age of 65. With an increasingly aging population and no economic stimulation, the Northern rural areas of Maine become less appealing to younger
individuals, further depressing the economy. Many of these counties are also afflicted with high poverty rates and lower median incomes, also due to
the lack of economic stimulation, further distancing itself from the more urban centers of the state. Although the urban–rural divide in the state of
Maine seems overwhelmingly prevalent on an economic and industry standpoint, these divides don't really divide the people. The, "Two Maines," are
not in competition with one another, both centers encourage the advancement of the state collectively and promote the growth of the state as a whole
rather than a single county or city. The betterment of Maine as a whole supersedes the advancement of any one place, and continuing the idea that there
are, "Two Maines," does nothing to actually address the problems that each of these unique places struggle

Somali Police Mediation Policy
The Policy My proposed policy includes the following:
The appointment of Civil Rights Officers recruited from the Somali community, within the Lewiston Police Department.
The establishment of a permanent state–funded Office of Multicultural Affairs within the Lewiston City Hall.
These reforms will assist the local government in taking steps to create a dialogue that will ease racial tensions and help ensure Somalis and other
refugees/immigrants are protected from hate crimes. It's important to act proactively in dealing with the rise of hate crimes in Lewiston, because if there
is no response to minor racial incidents, then much more serious acts of racial violence will follow (Rabrenovik 358). The employment of Civil

Governor Paul LePage, has not only perpetuated these myths, but in many instances he created them. He once baselessly claimed that Somali's were

the Somali community was responsible for the Lewiston's "crime wave". The Lewiston police chief later clarified that crime had actually decreased
since the Somali's arrival (Galofaro). But Maine citizens should have a vested interest in protecting these vulnerable immigrant communities. It is time
that we stand by our immigrant communities, and my proposed policy does exactly that. The employment of Civil Rights Officers will shows Somalis
that our community cares about their safety. But more importantly, it shows that we are willing to incorporate them in our justice system in order to
ensure greater cooperation in crime prevention. The creation of Lewiston's Office of Multicultural Affairs demonstrates the communities commitment

The New World
After settlement of "The New World" by the English in the early 17th century, there was a surge of Englishmen hoping to strike rich, escape the
religious government of England, or start a new life with their family. Specific reasons for leaving England had its respective colonies to travel to. For
this reason, the northern New England colonies and the southern colonies like Virginia and Maryland in the Chesapeake bay area started to establish
ways of life that began to develop very different lifestyles. The reasoning behind the foundation of each colony is what created such a substantial
amount of difference between two areas of English settlement.
Following the defeat of the Spanish armada, England finally had the power to venture out to the Americas after hearing about a century's worth of
Spanish success in that region themselves. Single Englishmen in search of wealth began to sail to America, and did not find the gold they were
searching for. It was not until the success from the crop tobacco, did anyone in Virginia prosper. This set the stage for a huge colony with an economy
relying on large plantations of this new staple crop. The many who sought out the Massachusetts bay colony in New England were likely not going to
strike rich on a plantation, but to either escape the English Church, or to start a new life for their family. The Massachusetts bay colony was founded by
Puritans who wanted to fix, or purify, the English church and for this reason, were also very

Do High End Clothes And Items Make Us Happy?
"Richard Cory" written by Edwin Robinson, throughout this poem wants us to ask ourselves, do high–end clothes and items make us happy? Should
we judge people based on their outward appearance? Are rich people always happy with their lives? After reading this poem, I realized that the
answers to those questions are no. No, high–end clothes and items don 't make us happy. No, we shouldn't judge people; we don't know what is going
on in their lives. Lastly, we don't know the rich people personally some may not be as happy as they seem on the outside. I read once, " Man is the
maker of his character, the molder of his life, and the builder of his destiny. The facade that people put forth can be a deceptive semblance of the soul,
an illusion meant to hide their superficial nature." It turns out in the end that underneath his good looks and wealth, Richard Cory is an unhappy man.
Even though it appeared he had everything in one part, he had nothing in another. This poem proves that wealth, good looks and material things can't
guarantee someone's happiness. A cliche line is you can't judge a book by its cover, which is unbelievably true. It sounds silly and childlike but even
as an adult it is a statement that should ring true for everyone. Richard Cory was apparently the richest, most attractive man in the town, but he still
had problems that no one could see but himself. The town classifies him as a " gentleman from sole to crown"(3), "richer than a king"(9), and " clean

How Did Dorothea Dix Changed The Lives Of The Mentally Ill
There's 7 billion (give or take a few) people on this Earth. Every single solitary one of them is capable of changing the world in a major way, like
Dorothea Dix did. Dorothea Dix was a woman of the mid 1800's who devoted her life to visiting homes and hospitals for the mentally ill and fixing
them up. She founded countless mental hospitals, she changed how people thought of and treated the mentally ill, and she got important political
figures to help her with her cause. Dorothea Dix changed the lives of the mentally ill for all of time to come.
Dorothea Dix founded numerous hospitals and treatment centers for the mentally ill. In my research I found on an online resource that, "In all she
played a major role in the founding of 32 mental hospitals, 15 schools for the feeble minded, a school for the blind, and numerous nurse training
facilities." This quote shows her effort to make the lives of the mentally ill better by giving them a safe place to live. This, however, is not all she did

district. The daring move won his support." (p. 55). This quote shows how with her persuasive attitude and word choice she could change people's
opinions on the mentally ill and rally support. This government official is not the only one she got to join her campaign for the mentally

Film Analysis : The Shawshank Redemption
"Hope is a good thing. Maybe even the best of things and good things never die." This statement articulated by character, Andy Defresne expresses
dilemma in "The Shawshank Redemption" a film directed by Frank Darabont (1994) based on a short story wrote by Stephen King. The character Andy
Defresne is erroneously convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. During the film, there is greed that overcomes those in power which leads to
suffering for the innocent inside of Shawshank Prison. The tone of the prison is emanated by the Warden Norton who emphasizes his power with a
hypocritical Christian moral structure. The inmates have accepted the habitual routine of corruption and regulation. With the use of music,
cinematography, and narration, the film elucidates how patience and integrity are virtues that overcome injustice with endurance and sanguinity for
salvation.
The music in the film were string instruments that rouse emotion through the movie. The music that is played when Andy first arrived at the prison
built the trepidation of the prison. The music was a gradual and subdued rhythm that accentuated the murky and dismal prison. Inside the prison, the
inmates are prohibited to listen to music. Andy takes an album out of the crate that he received from the state of Maine and proceeded to play it over the
loudspeaker for all to hear. He takes this chance of insubordination to the Warden, so his friends can be allude to peace in the prison. The song that he

One can imagine Cory surrounded by gawking fans, expecting him to act and behave like a man who has everything. Indeed Cory dutifully fit this
role, he "was always quietly arrayed" and "always human when he talked" when dealing with the public. Cory comes across as a perfect upper–class
gentlemen, an "imperially slim" aristocrat who knew what the public wanted. Cory not only acted, but looked the part – he was a "gentleman from sole
to crown", which was probably why he "fluttered pulses" when he greeted his fans. Cory must have realized that the public "thought he was
everything / To make us wish that we were in his place" or else he would not have acted so "clean favored" whenever he was in their presence. Cory
understood that he served as a role model to people like the speaker, who deal with the everyday hardships of life. Yet even the most caring role
models are subject to fatigue. Cory must have been tried of being expected to act like a gentleman just because he was "richer than a king" . It seems
that after being put on a pedestal for so long, he could not take it any longer.
Through the buildup of praise throughout Richard Cory Reveals an ironic and painful truth – in their quest for happiness, the people caused their hero
to end his life. The irony is structural because the speaker, like the rest of the public, is naГЇve in thinking that their adoration of Richard Cory will not
harm him. The poem starts with a simple assessment of Cory. To the public,

Orphan Train Character Analysis
Throughout the novel Orphan Train, there is the reoccurring importance of names for characters. Niamh receives a total of three different names in her
lifetime, each name representing a different persona. Niamh is naГЇve and acts her age, Dorothy experiences hardships and is forced to suppress her

To begin with, Niamh was Vivian's original name. Niamh was a child, who had afamily that immigrated to Ireland. Niamh experienced the death of

that I am here and they are gone. I touch the Claddagh cross around my neck" (Kline 62.) Her saying this expresses how Niamh is longing for comfort
and has yet to reach the realization that she has become undesirable. She still acts as if she is unsuspecting and innocent.

Politics And Power Motifs In Julius Caesar

  • 1. Politics And Power Motifs In Julius Caesar Abraham Lincoln once stated "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." In Lincoln's statement a key term is power, which means the ability or right to control people or things. Another important term in Lincoln's statement is adversity, which means a difficult situation or condition. Taken as a whole, Lincoln means that all men can handle a difficult period by themselves easily, but when someone has power and battles a situation it makes a person corrupt and harder to handle situations. This is because when you have power it is easier to do the wrong thing. Furthermore, Lincoln implies in his statement that power defines a person and power can change a person, most of the time for the bad. Finally, when looked under the lens of William Shakespeare's tragedy Julius Caesar,Abraham Lincoln's statement can be proven true through Shakespeare's development of the politics and power motif. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Cassius is talking to Brutus at the Senate house before the funeral oration. Cassius is telling Brutus that he does not think it is a good idea for Mark Antony to speak at the funeral oration (III.I.237–260). This clearly demonstrates Brutus' judgement is naive and impulsive because he does not see the bigger picture and he believes he is more rounded than Cassius. Brutus should not be the one to make that call since he does not know politics he knows law. This affects the work as a whole because when Brutus let Antony speak he turned all the people against the conspirators and made the conspirators run away in fear for their life. This example clearly shows that the Lens is true because it starts to show the beginning of Brutus downfall with power and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing the big movers in the field of occupational therapy and eating disorder recovery, I felt I was grasping at nothing. I did actively pursue many authors of papers that focused on OT and ED but received no response. This was regardless of my mode of communication, zero phone calls back and emails unresponsive. I decided to change my approach to this and stepped outside of the field of OT. This is when I found a professional willing to speak with me. I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has been practicing since 1998. I found the contact information for Phelps through the eating disorder treatment team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the interview on March 2nd at her Waterville office. I chose to pursue this interview with Phelps because I perceived her to be client–centered and she mentioned using various approaches that I am interested in implementing when I'm working with clients that would like to utilize them. These approaches included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind–body perspectives. Upon arrival I learned that though Dr. Phelps is on the ED treatment team for the Waterville area, she has not had much experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among all practitioners in the state of Maine. My first question to Miranda was why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For as long as Patterson could remember, his mother, Linda Faye Stephenson and "Uncle Larry" Wallace, have baked and cooked in professional and home settings. He would watch them bake and cook and at times would bake with them. Following in his family's direction, Patterson attended Northwest Louisiana Technical College (NWLTC) where he sharpened his culinary skills that he learned from his family and from working in various restaurants. Patterson was hungry for knowledge while at NWLTC. Every chance he got, he would take the old books the school wanted to discard and take them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Does Maine Mean To Me Essay I may be an elected senator for the great state of Maine, but one of the best experiences in my life was simply growing up in Hancock county on the edges of Acadia National Park. I would venture into Bar Harbor sometimes to watch the fisherman bring in the day's findings and see how excited the tourists were to go whale watching. Just walking around, people watching as I liked to do, I learned a lot about our states industries and what made the economy thrive, the other crazy, lucky inhabitants of our beautiful state, and the issues that plagued it, too. TheMaine I grew up in is not the same state that I represent today, which is why I ran for this office in the first place. I know Maine. I love Maine. Everything I do, is in the best interest of Maine. The demographic makeup of our state has changed dramatically over the last couple decades. Our population is getting older, transitioning out of the work–force and child–bearing years. Individuals under 18 and between the ages of 50 and 64 are the predominant age groups and the young citizens we do have are not enough to replace the baby boomer generation. Our state's population is growing ever so slightly, but it is due to migration into the state, evident by our death rate eclipsing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in order to do that, I have a different plan of allocation. Rather than direct cash assistance, I want our welfare system to focus on food assistance programs, utility subsidies, benefits to those pursuing higher education, and daycare ... The invitation was at the right time because Dix have already heard how horrible the conditions and treaments of the mentally ill were in Massachusetts, it was just not justified. After her class she toured the jail and was appalled by what she had discovered. The innocent, guilty, and the mentally ill were combined in the unsanitary, crowded, cells of the East Cambridge jail. In addition, a keeper in the jail stated that the prisoners did not need heat or ventilation because they did not need it. He was a physician and an advocate for the education of the blind. She gathered powerful men such as Senate Hon. Joseph S. Dodd who through him, Dorothea Dix accumulated several supporters in establishing the foundation of the asylum in the State of New Jersey, "It was first on January 25, 1845 that her first Memorial to the Legislature of New Jersey was presented to the Senate by Miss Dix 's stanch supporter, Hon. Joseph S. Dodd" (110). It also important to take into account how determined Dorothea Dix. • 6. Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of burdens and obstacles. While growing up in Maine throughout the early 1800's, her journey began with her impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea's father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious preacher and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff, History.com 2009). Growing up as the eldest, Dorothea felt a responsibility to take great care of her siblings and family. Ultimately, her family's shortcomings and her compassion were what fueled her desire to help the less fortunate and helpless. With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion for education and learning. As she grew older, she acted upon her passion and became a schoolteacher for children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up various schools for children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009). However, after experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped her teaching and began to write educational textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820's to the 1840's (Wood, Andrew G.). • 10. Maine Is An Ideal Place When considering various locations around the world, an individual will most often learn to associate a place with it's common attributes. For example, Florida is associated with Disney World, Tennessee is associated with the music industry, and New York is known for the busy streets which make up Times Square. However, Maine's most common attribute is much more breathtaking than any other one can bring to mind; snowmobiling. With the exception of the few major cities located within Maine's borders, Maine is comprised of small, quaint towns who survive mainly because of the abundance of small, hardworking, local businesses. These businesses most typically consist of family owned and operated restaurants, gas stations, and inns, but can be stretched to include dealerships of all sorts as well. Though these businesses work tirelessly to thrive, they possess a demand for customers outside of just local residents. • 11. Governor Lepage 's Administration And The Vermont State ackground Governor LePage's administration and the Maine State Legislature have been in gridlock for many months over the proposed two–year state budget beginning July 1. Maine faces the real possibility of a state government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year if that a budget agreement is not reached June 30th. The most recent state government shutdown lasting 16 days occurred in 1991 when then Gov. John McKernan failed to reach an agreement with the state legislature about workers compensation reform. The legislative leaders as well as Governor LePage's administration downplay the possibility of a shutdown, and have all stressed their commitment to avoid this drastic measure. However, LePage's often adversarial relationship with the legislature and battles over MaineCare funding must not be downplayed. LePage's administration is not offering any insight as to how the administration would conduct state government if a shutdown occurs; however, it will fall to LePage to decide which government services are essential and will continue in the event a budget agreement is not realized and a shutdown occurs. Like many nonprofits in the last several decades, CHCS has been affected by unexpected shifts in funding and must be prepared should a shutdown or any other significant loss of funding occur. The Chesapeake region was a loosely fitted society with little connection with each plantation while the New England colonies had tightly knitted communities with a sort of town pride. The difference in unity and the reason for this difference best explain the significant disparity between the dissimilar societies. The New England and Chesapeake region had evolved into two different societies because the world was changing and a lot of people didn't like the change that was taking place so they left. For example, the Church of England was said to be corrupted. That is one of the main reasons for the separatists. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hunt for greed in the Chesapeake region led to a strong revolt from Bacon. The lack of doing anything for the safety of the citizens of the Chesapeake region by Governor Berkeley led to a strong revolt by Bacon (Document H). • 17. Theme Of Just Mercy And Shawshank Redemption In Bryan Stevenson's book "Just Mercy" and Stephen King's movie "Shawshank Redemption", injustice is brought up frequently. Injust is shown through racism, money, and mental illnesses. Bryan and Stephen use great examples and details to explain how injustice is obviously in today's court systems. Throughout "Just Mercy", Bryan stevenson talks about a woman named Trina Garnett. She was a 14 year old with mental disabilities who was abused, homeless, and lonely. As a child, she was abused and raped repeatedly by her father, who also raped her mother and sisters. She was charged with second degree murder because she snuck into a boy's house and lit a match which burned down the house, resulting in the murder of the two boys in the house. For this crime, she went in front of a judge at the young age of 14 years old. Additionally, the judge did not agree with the sentencing he would have to give Trina for the crime. He was required to give her life sentence for a crime that was an accident. The trial itself was unjust due to the fact that her mental disabilities and childhood were not taken into consideration when her sentencing was given. Likewise, many young people are sent to prison for life for something they did due to their unstable childhood and lack of adults present in their life. Trina's disabilities and age at the time of the crime should have been taken into the contemplation of how her life would be from there on out. This also goes along with Walter McMillan's case and how his was unjust because of his race and relationships. He was convicted of shooting a white woman because he was black. The authorities needed to calm the town so they put him on death row for six years before he got out. Within "Shawshank Redemption", Stephen King shows how Andy, the main character in the movie, is wrongfully accused due to injustice in the court system. Andy was married to a woman who he loved dearly. This woman ended up cheating on him with another man and getting caught by Andy. • 18. How To Write The Story Of A Short Story The terror, which would not end for another twenty–eight years – if it ever did end – began, so far as I know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain. The boat bobbed, listed, righted itself again, dived bravely through treacherous whirlpools, and continued on its way down Witcham Street toward the traffic light which marked the intersection of Witcham and Jackson. The three vertical lenses on all sides of the traffic light were dark this afternoon in the fall of 1957, and the houses were all dark, too. There had been steady rain for a week now, and two days ago the winds had come as well. Most sections of Derry had lost their power then, and it was not back on yet. A small boy in a yellow slicker and red galoshes ran cheerfully along beside the newspaper boat. The rain had not stopped, but it was finally slackening. It tapped on the yellow hood of the boy's slicker, sounding to his ears like rain on a shed roof ... a comfortable, almost cozy sound. The boy in the yellow slicker was George Denbrough. He was six. His brother William, known to most of the kids at Derry Elementary School (and even to the teachers, who would never have used the nickname to his face) as Stuttering Bill, was at home, hacking out the last of a nasty case of influenza. In that autumn of 1957, eight months before the real horrors began, and twenty–eight years before the final showdown, Stuttering Bill was ten years old. Bill had made the boat beside which George now ran. He had made it sitting up in bed, his back propped against a pile of pillows, while their mother played Fur Elise on the piano in the parlor and rain swept restlessly against his bedroom window. About three–quarters of the way down the block as one headed toward the intersection and the dead traffic light, Witcham Street was blocked to motor traffic by smudgepots and four orange sawhorses. Stencilled across each of the horses was DERRY DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS. Beyond them, the rain had spilled out of gutters clogged with branches and rocks and big sticky piles of autumn leaves. The water had first pried fingerholds in the paving and then snatched whole greedy handfuls – all of this by the third day of the rains. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The frontier advance, slowed by the Indian uprisings, was quickly resumed after 1815 when Britain no longer gave support to various Indian tribes. The movement can be likened to a procession of settlement. The first settlers were hunters, traders and explorers. Representative James Tallmadge of New York introduced an amendment to the Missouri statehood bill that would have 1) prohibited the further introduction of slaves into Missouri and 2) would have freed at the age of 25 all children of slaves born in Missouri after its admission of statehood. Sharp angry debate over the rights of Congress to legislate on the slavery issue ensued. It was the first time the issue of whether or not slavery was good for the United States was discussed in Congress. It became apparent in the debate that the balance of Free State representation and slave state representation in the Senate would be critical in other debates. The Free states already had more voted in the House. With the Tallmadge Amendment, the South feared that the prohibition of slavery by Congress in Missouri would set a precedent to eventually lead to the absolute prohibition of slavery in the United States. The Tallmadge Amendment passed the House but was deadlocked in the Senate. The first break in the debate towards a solution began in 1820 when Maine applied for statehood. The essential provisions of the Missouri Compromise provided: 1) that Missouri be admitted as a slave state and Maine be admitted as a free state and 2) that the territory north of the 36'30В° (Missouri's southern border) be "forever free." This permitted new states admitted south of this line to become slave states. This appeared to be a settlement to the debate until Missouri admitted a constitution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Causes And Effects Of The Missouri Compromise Effects of Missouri Compromise The Missouri Compromise was a temporary solution to the issue of slavery and territorial rights such as the movement West. Two areas of land wanted to become states in 1820, known as Maine and Missouri. Maine wanted to enter as a free state with no slavery as everyone in that area was against it and wanted it abolished. Missouri wanted to enter as a slave state and was all for slavery and wanted it to be spread all throughout the country. The compromise everyone came into conclusion with, was that there would be no slavery allowed north of 36В° 30' latitude. This angered the Southerners because their intention was to promote slavery not have it abolished. They realized that this compromise threatened the balance between free and slave states; Maine and Missouri. In order to expand slavery, the South felt that the United States would need territory from Mexico. The only area of land left was in Arkansas and that line became known as theMissouri Compromise line. The impact that the Missouri Compromise had on the United States was tremendous and had many effects on issues such as national politics, the institution of slavery, and the overall togetherness of the nation as a whole. Based on urban–rural division, the state could be divided in two, with the counties who have coast line, including Androscoggin, and Kennebec rely heavily on their fishing industries and tourism for their economy. The Northern counties of Maine do not cater to trade, nor do they focus on tourism, but largely are involved with the agriculture industry of the state growing crops such as potatoes, eggs, strawberries, and blueberries. In rural Maine, economic activities are rather stagnant, and in some cases even in decline. Many of the Northern counties have a difficult time finding enough tax revenue to pay for basic services due to this economic stagnation. In a census done by the federal government it was found that the population of Northern counties were comprised of approximately 17% of elderly above the age of 65. With an increasingly aging population and no economic stimulation, the Northern rural areas of Maine become less appealing to younger individuals, further depressing the economy. Many of these counties are also afflicted with high poverty rates and lower median incomes, also due to the lack of economic stimulation, further distancing itself from the more urban centers of the state. • 31. Women During The Civil War There were many famous names from the Civil War, some of the more notable names were: Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and George Custer. These names are synonymous with great generals who fought great battles during the war, but what about Sarah Emma Edmonds, Clara Burton, Dorthea Dix, Rose O'Neal Greenhow, and Loreta Janeta Velazquez? These names are not as known as their male counterparts, but these ladies of the Civil War Era did their part to aide their respective sides in the war. What these and other women did during the civil war may not seem as important, but without their skills, knowledge, and actions some of the great battles might have gone the other way. Although the exact number of nurses that served in the Civil War is not known, it is estimated that between 2,000–5,000 ladies served as nurses. • 32. The New World After settlement of "The New World" by the English in the early 17th century, there was a surge of Englishmen hoping to strike rich, escape the religious government of England, or start a new life with their family. Specific reasons for leaving England had its respective colonies to travel to. For this reason, the northern New England colonies and the southern colonies like Virginia and Maryland in the Chesapeake bay area started to establish ways of life that began to develop very different lifestyles. The reasoning behind the foundation of each colony is what created such a substantial amount of difference between two areas of English settlement. Following the defeat of the Spanish armada, England finally had the power to venture out to the Americas after hearing about a century's worth of Spanish success in that region themselves. Single Englishmen in search of wealth began to sail to America, and did not find the gold they were searching for. It was not until the success from the crop tobacco, did anyone in Virginia prosper. This set the stage for a huge colony with an economy relying on large plantations of this new staple crop. The many who sought out the Massachusetts bay colony in New England were likely not going to strike rich on a plantation, but to either escape the English Church, or to start a new life for their family. The Massachusetts bay colony was founded by Puritans who wanted to fix, or purify, the English church and for this reason, were also very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Technology Personal Reflection Paper My older brother, Jack, always excelled at any and all tasks that required a strong sense of reason. Despite his giftedness, Jack never worked well in any group, or even acclimated socially with many other kids. He wasn't concerned with communicating his ideas to his peers, couldn't make the effort to consider his words' effects on other kids, and he was prone to angry outbursts when he didn't get his way. While most other children grew out of these phases, Jack continues to exhibit these qualities even today at 23. At age 3, I was playing the age–old puzzle games that have captivated my enthrallment all my life (even to this day I'm trying to find a download for Zoombinis). This period must have been when technology became an important part of my life, because for every part of my life I can remember, technology has been an integral part of my life. However, technology has played countless roles in my life over the years. Having had handwriting issues all my life (bad enough to get me diagnosed with dysgraphia), the keyboard liberated me and introduced me to a love a writing and storytelling I was never before able to experience. • 34. Do High End Clothes And Items Make Us Happy? "Richard Cory" written by Edwin Robinson, throughout this poem wants us to ask ourselves, do high–end clothes and items make us happy? Should we judge people based on their outward appearance? Are rich people always happy with their lives? After reading this poem, I realized that the answers to those questions are no. No, high–end clothes and items don 't make us happy. No, we shouldn't judge people; we don't know what is going on in their lives. Lastly, we don't know the rich people personally some may not be as happy as they seem on the outside. I read once, " Man is the maker of his character, the molder of his life, and the builder of his destiny. The facade that people put forth can be a deceptive semblance of the soul, an illusion meant to hide their superficial nature." It turns out in the end that underneath his good looks and wealth, Richard Cory is an unhappy man. Even though it appeared he had everything in one part, he had nothing in another. This poem proves that wealth, good looks and material things can't guarantee someone's happiness. A cliche line is you can't judge a book by its cover, which is unbelievably true. It sounds silly and childlike but even as an adult it is a statement that should ring true for everyone. Richard Cory was apparently the richest, most attractive man in the town, but he still had problems that no one could see but himself. The town classifies him as a " gentleman from sole to crown"(3), "richer than a king"(9), and " clean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She discovered the alarming treatment of the prisoners, specifically those with mental illnesses, whose place of residence had no heat. She immediately went to court and ensured an order to provide heat for the prisoners, along with other advancements. She began traveling around the state to research the conditions in prisons, and ultimately arranged a document that was presented to the Massachusetts Legislature, which enlarged the budget to expand the Mental Hospital at Worcester. • 36. How Did Dorothea Dix Changed The Lives Of The Mentally Ill There's 7 billion (give or take a few) people on this Earth. Every single solitary one of them is capable of changing the world in a major way, like Dorothea Dix did. Dorothea Dix was a woman of the mid 1800's who devoted her life to visiting homes and hospitals for the mentally ill and fixing them up. She founded countless mental hospitals, she changed how people thought of and treated the mentally ill, and she got important political figures to help her with her cause. Dorothea Dix changed the lives of the mentally ill for all of time to come. Dorothea Dix founded numerous hospitals and treatment centers for the mentally ill. In my research I found on an online resource that, "In all she played a major role in the founding of 32 mental hospitals, 15 schools for the feeble minded, a school for the blind, and numerous nurse training facilities." This quote shows her effort to make the lives of the mentally ill better by giving them a safe place to live. This, however, is not all she did for the mentally ill. ... The daring move won his support." (p. 55). This quote shows how with her persuasive attitude and word choice she could change people's opinions on the mentally ill and rally support. This statement articulated by character, Andy Defresne expresses dilemma in "The Shawshank Redemption" a film directed by Frank Darabont (1994) based on a short story wrote by Stephen King. The character Andy Defresne is erroneously convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. During the film, there is greed that overcomes those in power which leads to suffering for the innocent inside of Shawshank Prison. The tone of the prison is emanated by the Warden Norton who emphasizes his power with a hypocritical Christian moral structure. The inmates have accepted the habitual routine of corruption and regulation. With the use of music, cinematography, and narration, the film elucidates how patience and integrity are virtues that overcome injustice with endurance and sanguinity for salvation. The music in the film were string instruments that rouse emotion through the movie. The music that is played when Andy first arrived at the prison built the trepidation of the prison. The music was a gradual and subdued rhythm that accentuated the murky and dismal prison. Inside the prison, the inmates are prohibited to listen to music. One can imagine Cory surrounded by gawking fans, expecting him to act and behave like a man who has everything. Indeed Cory dutifully fit this role, he "was always quietly arrayed" and "always human when he talked" when dealing with the public. Cory comes across as a perfect upper–class gentlemen, an "imperially slim" aristocrat who knew what the public wanted. Cory not only acted, but looked the part – he was a "gentleman from sole to crown", which was probably why he "fluttered pulses" when he greeted his fans. Cory must have realized that the public "thought he was everything / To make us wish that we were in his place" or else he would not have acted so "clean favored" whenever he was in their presence. Cory understood that he served as a role model to people like the speaker, who deal with the everyday hardships of life. Yet even the most caring role models are subject to fatigue. Cory must have been tried of being expected to act like a gentleman just because he was "richer than a king" . It seems that after being put on a pedestal for so long, he could not take it any longer. Through the buildup of praise throughout Richard Cory Reveals an ironic and painful truth – in their quest for happiness, the people caused their hero to end his life. The irony is structural because the speaker, like the rest of the public, is naГЇve in thinking that their adoration of Richard Cory will not harm him.
