2. The Gruesome Frankie: The famous song “Frankie and
Johnny” was based on a true event involving Frankie and
Charlie Silver in Burke County, North Carolina. Legend has it,
Charlie was a womanizer and was “doing [Frankie] wrong”. So,
Frankie cut him up into little pieces and threw them into the
fire. The pieces that did not burn were stuffed into holes in the
trees outside their house and under the floorboards. Frankie
was a 4 foot tall woman, so the book written by Sharyn
McCrumb explains that the mother must have helped in some
