2. • Christmas is a wonderful holiday, it’s a feast of
Christ’s birth and it’s celebrated on the eve of 7th of
January. In Ukraine, this is one of the most important
holidays for people because on this day Christ was
born.
3. The day before
Christmas is called
Christmas Eve, and the
people are holy
evening. According to
the folk custom, in the
holy evening the
children go to visit their
godparents or relatives.
4. • On this day, a festive night lityrgy will be served in all
the churches. And celebrated Christmas on the Julian
church calendar which is 13 days behind.
5. • There is a tradition to go to Christmas for each other and
sing songs proclaiming that Jesus was born. Such songs are
called carols.
6. • The main symbols of carols is a beautifully decorated
eight-pointed star, attached to a stick. It is a worn by
a man at the head of each caroling group. She is the
image of star of Bethlehem who accompanied the
nativity of Christ.
7. • For Christmas, Ukrainians decorate the Christmas
tree, which is a symbol of the resurrection.
9. Christmas begins the period of winter holidays, which is
called Yule. These include: the memory of St. Basil or the Old
New Year, as well as Baptism or Water Recession
