Final Paper 30% (Due Friday, June 23).
The paper will elaborate on the topic of the presentation. Use quotes from the novel or film and supporting articles. Do not retell the story and do not repeat others' ideas verbatim or as if they are your own. Instead, start with an arguable thesis statement, and use examples (quotes from the novel or film) and quotes from articles to support that argument. After presenting your argument and support about how the novel/film you select sends a specific message with the representation of the Middle Eastern characters, include a conclusion that recommends possible changes to help the world see the Middle East as it is, not as the stereotypes convey.

Whenever secondary sources are used, they must come from professional, peer reviewed journals or books in the Tiffin University library, or through Ohiolink.com. Do not use Wikipedia, SparkNotes, news sources, book or reviews, or commercial websites. Any sources not found through a subscription service (DragonQuest/OhioLink) must be approved by instructor via email.
When writing about movies and novels, do not spend more than one short paragraph on the plot. DO NOT RETELL THE STORIES OR MOVIES IN YOUR PAPER.

5. Using QuotesUse quotations to support your argument. Keep
quotations short (try to avoid long, block quotes).Provide

explanation of why it is there is pointless. Put punctuation after
the citation (which is in parentheses).Make sure the quote is

Although it can be unintentional, plagiarism is always a serious
ethical and moral offense. It is, in effect, stealing and lying.
The penalty shall be automatic failure for the class in which the
plagiarism took place. Penalties for plagiarism can also apply
to students who voluntarily provide work of their own to be
plagiarized or who provide plagiarized work for others.

the Academic Dean and to the Director of the School of General

MLA Style: When citing material (quotes & paraphrases)
within the text of the paper, all you need is the author’s last
name and the page number, with no punctuation between them
and punctuation after the parentheses:
As most people know, “Play it again Sam” is a
misquote, but Bergman’s character, Ilsa, does say, “Play it
once, Sam” and “Play it Sam” (Casablanca). The film was
released in November in a limited run (Corey & Ochoa 64),
which showed the studio’s lack of confidence in that property.

The ConclusionThe conclusion is more than restating the
thesis.The conclusion's primary function is to summarize
concisely a paper's major points, And it should take the paper's
main idea a step further. It should look beyond the paper's
limitations and extend its insights Don't use such phrases as "in
conclusion" or "to sum up”Don't try to be profound and claim
too much. Don't undermine your own argument by
contradicting yourself or pointing out that you could be wrong
or that it’s just your opinion. Save humility for other times in
your life.

Use Academic/Formal ToneAvoid second person and first
person.Do not use contractions. Do not use slang, regional
dialect, or swear words (except in quotes).In writing about
stories/movies, present tense is used, as if the story is still
happening.Use gender neutral pronouns and make sure the

Revise! Revise! Revise!One of the main problems people have
with their papers is that they don’t bother to proofread or edit.
Revising can often raise the grade by one or two full
grades.When revising, look for grammatical, spelling, word
choice, and punctuation mistakes.Look for contradictions,
digressions, generalizations, irrelevant quotes, and weaknesses
in style and presentation.
