Recent developments in industrial relations include new actors like employers, trade unions, and community groups influencing the dynamic. Government policies have focused on both supporting labor rights and society. Trade union membership has declined while industrial conflict like man days lost to strikes has significantly decreased from 402.1 million in 1980-81 to just 6.39 million in 2003-04. The Payment of Wages Act was amended in 2005 to increase the monthly wage ceiling from Rs. 1600 to Rs. 6000. However, fully maintaining positive industrial relationships is still a work in progress.
