The Smart Solar Trailer (SST) participated the “TRA Visions 2016 European Competition”. The SST was an innovative thought for improving the freight logistics. 2. Introduction
The idea of Smart Solar Trailer (SST) or “Smart Solar Freight System” has born in
summer 2014 when I worked as a truck driver in one of the biggest Italian Family-run
Transportation Company in North-regions. Day-by-day transporting frozen foods, alimentary
products, beverages, medicine, pharmacy drugs, postal boxes and many different kinds of
goods belong to different customers brands, all inside the special ATP trailers whose can1
not comunicate, invited me to think about that problem and SST as its possible solution.
Transport and Logistic industry covers more than 10% of the European Union GDP but2
unfortunately the design of the trucks and lorries usually does not allow transports’
customers to become popular and well-known. Trailers design is passive, rigid, non-smart,
inflexible and not in accordance with customers’ needs whose want to be well-known.
However, in this critical circumstance, the idea of Smart Solar Trailer (SST) or “Smart
Mobile Solar Freight Advertising System” could revolutionary change the rigidity,
inflexibility and non-smart design of trucks, lorries or trailers body for ever.
Why is SST important? (Strategy&MKT)
SST is important because it will change the world of advertisement and modern business
marketing. Its able to be flexible and smart toward all requests and variables desired by
transport customers. SST has not any significant variable costs once it is installed on the truck
or trailer body. You can write what you want, how you prefer and where you desire just to
give satisfaction to your clients and give them the opportunity to be well-known.
Smart Solar Trailers are solar and smart. They are intelligent enough to practically
realize a various of useful applications to improve and sublimate efficiency in all kinds of
transport and logistic missions. Working with SST strategy could help everyone in the3
world of transport, in different sections such as Environment – Decarbonisation, Sustainability
and Energy Efficiency, Vehicles & Vessels Technologies, Design and Production, Urban and Long-
Distance People Mobility - Systems and Services, Freight Transport and Logistics, Safe, Secure and
Resilient Transport Systems, Transport Infrastructures, Human Factors, Socio-Economics and Foresights,
Automation and Connectivity, Enabling Environment for Innovation Implementation.

3. Once SST technology becomes popular and transport companies become familiar with
using it, there is a high probability for the new entrances in this innovative Ad. Tech.
market. Bus (people mobility) companies, public or private, internally or externally, national
or international, in urban and in long-distance transporting systems will start working with
the benefit of SST and eliminate their ad. variable and organization cost.
However, SST is sustainable and smart. Trams and trains could be the next frontier for
smart solar Technology. In addition, might one day in future we could travel with ships
equipped with SST more similar to what is happened in following real experiences.

How does SST work?
Smart Solar Trailer (SST) is simply a solar-electric system but it should offer a modern
trailers design, able to bend, flexible and in accordance with customers’ needs whose want
to be well-known. Therefore SST has to have three main following segments:
In the first segment, there are thin or slim solar panels, all carefully connected
together such as a carpet above the truck. They should be installed on the top of
the Trailer Body (TB) because of strong sunshine on the roof of TB. In addition,
another reason to take advantage of the top of TB is because this surface usually
never being used or see during the services. (specially in ATP)

4. In the second segment, there are thousands of smart electronic mosaic light giver
miniature panels. They cover all around the trailer body except the front part of
TB because it usually should be prepared flat, empty and intentionally left free for
the Truck’s Freezer Producers such as THERMO KING and CARRIER to offer4
theses producers some possibility or ability to install the essential equipment of
temperature security-services related to ATP transport systems.

In the third segment, there is a Smart Center Process Unit (SCPU) that offers
an easy to use Graphic User Interface (GUI) which is connectable and flexible
with Portable Computers (PC’s), Laptop and even Smart Phone Applications
(S.app.s) to receive or command the related requests, manage the relevant signals,
analyze and run reliably with the Totally Integrate SST missions and services.

5. Some Critics and Probable Initially Disadvantage of SST
Smart Solar Trailer (SST) is the evolution of logistic’s future but right now might the
biggest trailer producer such as SCHMITZ (CARGO BULL) , Maral, BARKER etc. face5
some critical points those spotted them to produce Smart Solar Trailer (SST). In addition,
in case of ATP trailer production system, the side by side collaboration of Truck Frizzer
producer companies such as CARRIER and THERMO KING is utterly essential.
Another important reason related to create a collateral collaboration between Truck,
Trailer, Frizzer and SST engineers regards to the technical characters of all these
separated components. For example the electric power consumption and electronically
technical characteristic of Carrier’s Frizzer is crucial for calculation of solar’s cell units.
SST critically faced the elevated initial cost of production. SST should be created and
realized in miniature production size because of the administrative “limits of shape” in EU. In
addition, SST must be waterproof and strong enough to resist in hard work conditions. All
mosaic electronic devices (or in another words Smart Electronic mosaic light givers) should be
able to work electrically in parallel and easy to install or uninstall any of them individually
without influencing the current state of other mosaics. This is extremely important because
damage of TB surface is frequent in transport missions.
Smart Solar Trailer (SST) advantages
Smart Solar Trailers or “Mobile Solar Freight Advertising system” cover an incredibly huge ranges
of economic and social advantages such as Security point of view, ATP transport section,
Information System Technology in Logistics (likely that RFID technologies), ADR safety6 7
transport structures, Comfort/Commodity of drivers, Future Navigating Systems, New generation
of Optics-Traffics Communications, Simplifying Loading/Unloading Operations etc.
SST from the Security point of view: Creating smart trailers is an absolute
necessity of future humans. All over the world, every day many people die because
of car accidents. Smart Solar Trailers could decrease the risk and increase security
on the roads. SST is feasible. SST is operable and required.

6. In Iran , among all unintentional fatal injuries inflicted on children under five ,8 9
traffic-related fatalities are leading causes of death. Each year, road traffic crashes
kill nearly 28,000 people in Iran, and injure or disable 300,000 more.
In Argentina almost one person dies in a traffic accident every hour. Mainly from
people attempting to overtake. By incorporating technology into their trucks,
SAMSUNG SAFETY TRUCK made changes. They installed a Built-In Wireless10
Camera at the front of lorry and installed four (4) Rear outdoor monitors in back.

Usage of SST in accidents: Smart Solar Trailers could be useful in case of car
accidents to automatically alarm other users of the roads. Announce them and
inform them from distance about the disaster happened in front of them.
Imagine you are driving your personal car and maybe even you are talking with
your family or friends or mobile and suddenly far far a way you will see a huge smart
trailer that is lighting you and notice you to relent and slow down your car. Smart
solar trailers are convenience even in case of truck breakdown or mechanical
damages to warn or alarm street users and to the other truck drivers as well.

7. Not Truck Stealing Any More: Smart solar trailer technology, could offer an
excess of relaxation and security feeling to truck/lorry drivers itself. SST is awake
always even if its driver is sleeping. If in midnight, robbers want to open the trailer’s
posterior outdoor and peculating your assets/goods, your smart solar trailer starts
alarming and illustrating all around. SST is vigilant even if its driver leaved it
because of going to bath or restaurant or any other reasons.
While SST is in stand (Parking) condition, if someone wants to open any door or
segments of the truck or trailer, SST start to lighting and remains in alarming
situation until her/his driver enter the anti-thief code.

SST guarantees police’s prosecute without effort. Assume that the above robbers
resists and they decide to steal your trailer anyway. What will happen? Nothing,
only they have to drive away your truck while it is significantly lighting and
alarming everyone accompanied by Thief at Board message. Striking police
attention in this condition is something imaginable.
In addition, Fig. 4 illustrates one of the lorries I used to work with in a “parking
area” between Milan and Turin. Responsibility and feeling responsible to safe and
secure bring preciosity lorry’s load to the destination is a stress creator duty. However,
if your truck is equipped with SST and anti-thief satellite technology, you as a
driver or as a SC manager, you will feel comfort and you will rest the night calmly.

8. Night Parking Lights: Trucks, lorries and in a few words all heavy vehicles are
obligated and forced by law to drive in maximum limited hours. There are even
mandatory resting time regulations in which rules, truck driver should take a rest
at least minimum limited hours. European heavy vehicle transportation standards
obligate 45 minutes of daily rest in midday after 4.5 hours of driving plus 11
hours per night and 45 hours in the weekend. The problem come up and in
sequence, SST solution could come up either, while the truck driver has to stop
his/her heavy vehicle in some emergency parking spaces in the heart of midnight
darkness. You might see also such kind of heavy trucks or lorries parked in that
circumstances in some suburban or regional and national or international roads.
Summary:
Smart Solar Trailer (SST) system is able to offer a flexible and smart system toward all
requests and variables desired by transport customers. SST or in other words Smart
Mobile Solar Freight Advertising System, will revolutionary change the rigidity,
inflexibility and non-smart design of trucks, lorries or trailers body for ever.
SST provides an Integrated Self-Sustainable-Green-Energy Resource Center that is economically
efficient in freight transport and which decrease transport fuel and organization cost and
it will improve affluently the logistic’s productivity of heavy truck stuffs and companies.
