2. Project Description
Now that you have learned about how aqueducts work and the health
benefits that they provided for Romans
For this project, you will work in groups. Each student will have a role:
you will have a chance to design an aqueduct to bring water to Madison.
Engineer
Remember, the Romans planned the aqueducts based on function, resources, 1nd
appearance!
main role is to design the parts of the aqueduct.
Mathematician
main role is to make sure the aqueduct is neither too steep nor
too shallow.
You don’t want Madison to flood, and you don’t want Madison’s people to
have dirty water!
3. Urban Planner
Your main role is to decide where the people of Madison will access the water.
Will there be public fountains and baths, and private tap water for the wealth
like in Rome, or will Madison have a different system?
Cartographer
Your main role is to create and manage a map. You will make this map
in Google Drive.
You should choose this role if you like working on your Chrome Book. All the
cartographers will meet with me first to learn about how to use Google Maps.
Steps for this assignment1. Meet with the other “experts” of the same type in groups. In your expert groups, watch
the History Channel video about the Roman Aqueducts.
Use the note sheet for your group, linked below, to identify important elements about building
an aqueduct for experts in your field.
a. Engineer Expert Group Video Note Sheet
b. Mathematician Expert Group Video Note Sheet
c. Urban Planner Expert Group Video Note Sheet
d. Cartographer Expert Group Video Note Sheet
4. you will discuss the group’s role, and you will complete a brainstorming sheet,
where you decide the roles for each expert.
2. Next, you will meet with your mixed groups. In this group, you will share with the other
experts your ideas about your contribution to the final product. With your mixed group.
importance of each expert
3. As a full class, we will share our ideas about building the aqueducts. We will combine
ideas from each mixed group to develop a class plan.
4. The expert groups will work together on their part of the final plan (constructing the
aqueduct [design using 3dsoftware TinkerCad.com], a model of the terrain, and a map on
Google Maps of the aqueduct path).
5. We will put together our aqueduct in class and test it!
