Mecca is a holy city located in Saudi Arabia that is the most important pilgrimage destination for Muslims. The Vatican is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church located in Rome, Italy. Both sites are major religious destinations, but Mecca specifically is where Muslims make the hajj pilgrimage to walk counter-clockwise seven times around the Kaaba. The Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica are also major pilgrimage sites for Catholics. While both have great religious importance, Mecca is solely a Muslim site and the Vatican represents the leadership of the Catholic church.
