5.  Some evaporates straight away off soil and plant
surfaces
 Some runs off in to streams, rivers, dams,lakes
eventually the sea before evaporating
 Some penetrates the soil, rest flows down to
underground supplies

8.  Which soaks in and becomes available to plant
roots, insects and micro organisms or that
replenishes under ground supplies with very little
evaporating from the soil surface.

 It takes approximately 600 tons of water to produce
one ton of vegetation
 So one can not afford to waste any of the rain that
falls

10.  Water must penetrate the soil surface and this
depends on the rate at which it is applied and
porosity of surface
 An effective water cycle requires management that
maintains soil cover, followed by organic matter,
aeration and drainage

11. By creating effective water cycle systems
you can decrease floods and drought

12.  Droughts occur more frequently in less rain fall
 Frequent floods in heavy rain fall areas

13. In any case the reason is the land is bare / exposed.

 Less forage/crop production
 Slower plant growths
 Falling ground water supplies; drying up of springs,
bogs, and wells
 Unstable rivers
 Silted dams and eroding catchments
 Detrimental effects on other ecosystems

bases
 Soil bare
 Litter banks
 Signs of water flow, exposed gross roots, silt
deposits
 Water levels lowering in wells or springs drying up
