This document discusses ways to honor and protect cows. It recommends taking a lifelong pledge to protect cows, adopting or supporting cows at goshalas, using panchgavya products, avoiding cow slaughter-derived medicines and leather, using organic fertilizers and pesticides, and helping cows in danger. 5. Adopt a cow
If it’s not possible to serve cow personally, at
least support Goshalas (Cow ranch) where they
are taken care for their lifetime.
6. Play Surabhi Mantra daily at
home
“Om Sri Surabhyai Namah”
Place cow photos on the altar
and on the walls at home
7. Pay weekly visits and render Go-seva at nearby Goshala with your
family. Perform Go-Puja daily. Offer incense and flower to Mother
Surabhi. Recite prayers glorifying Mother Surabhi daily.
8. Use only protected cow’s milk. Use milk products like curd,
ghee (avoid commercial oil) etc which use only ahimsa
milk (milk from protected cows).
9. Use panchgavya (cow milk, curd, dung, gomutra and ghee)
products in your daily life. Replace your regular soap,
toothpaste, ubtan, dhoop (frankincense), mosquito repellent,
floor cleaner, etc with pacnchgavya products…
10. When sick, use medicines made with panchagavya
products.
11. Avoid medicines made by slaughtering of cows like beef-insulin,
dexorange syrup etc. which are used as calcium supplements.
Instead use panchagavya medicenes.
All medicines which have ‘Bovine’ written on them are
made from cow’s meat
12. Don’t use leather products like leather footwear, coats, purses,
suitcase, belts, mats etc . They are responsible for slaughtering
of cows. Also make others aware about it.
13. Make use of only organic food products which use
natural fertilisers, pesticides like cow dung, cow urine
etc.
14. Avoid using plastic bags which are responsible for
the death of lakhs of cows.
15. Help and protect cows which are being taken to
slaughter houses and are in trouble.
16. Green City Temples
Hold seminars promoting health and diet for temple inmates/
congregation. Teach about and encourage community gardens in
cities. Inspire temples to lease or purchase land for the purpose of
growing organic food, maintaining cows and developing self-
sufficient communities.
17. Assist government in revesing global ecological problems by
promoting natural large scale grazing of cows and showing
example of simple living and high thinking.
18. Encourage United Nations and nations adopt our Mother
Surabhi as
our universal mother.
Send representations to MLAs, MPs, Chief Ministers, Prime
Minister, President etc. for protection of cows with the
following demands:
•Pass an Act prohibiting slaughter of cows and cattle all over
the country as passed by the State of Gujarat !
•Close down immediately all illegal slaughter-houses
(approximately 66,000) in the country !
•Cancel the recommendations of Planning Commission
demanding permission for export of beef !
•Include syllabus in school text books that will impart
knowledge about Mother Cow and related aspects !
•Grant subsidies for all projects related to Cow-husbandry
(e.g. ‘Go-shalas’) !

Shubhananda Hari Das relationship with ISKCON
started about 10 years ago, in 2007, right from his
college days with BYS Manipal. The very first
meeting with the devotees made him fall in love
with the ISKCON philosophy. After four years of
completing his Civil Engineering, he joined L&T
Construction and later joined Reserve Bank of
India. He is presently living in Mumbai, serving as
Marketing Director of IDVM-India under the
direction of his spiritual master, His Holiness
Bhakti Raghava Swami.
He has been closely associated with preaching programmes at
BACE in ISKCON Delhi and ISKCON Chowpaty. He likes to hear
