  2. 2. LOCATION<br /><ul><li> DHOBI COLONY IS NEAR PUDUR BUS STAND
  3. 3. THERE IS NOT MUCH DEVELOPMENT AROUND THE COLONY
  4. 4. THIS AREA FALLS UNDER WARD NUMBER 3 OF THE MADURAI CORPORATION
  5. 5. COUNCELLOR OF THE WARD IS MR.CHANDRAN</li></li></ul><li>HISTORY OF DHOBI COLONY<br /><ul><li> The place was a graveyard and 10 DHOBI families had occupied it some 50 years ago. Slowly, people started migrating from other areas.
  6. 6. Today, there are 150 families residing in the colony. Since, the occupation of most of the inhabitants was washing of clothes the colony was named after them.
  7. 7. Dhobi Colony was the first to appear. Anna Colony was formed much later.</li></li></ul><li>OCCUPANCY<br />DHOBI COLONY hAS TWO DIVISONS:<br /> 1.DHOBI COLONY<br /> 2.ANNA COLONY<br /><ul><li> DHOBI COLONY is occupied by dhobis and hotel servers

  9. 9. PEOPLE BELONGING TO OTHER RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES ARE NEGLIGIBLE</li></li></ul><li>FESTIVAL CELEBRATED IN SLUM<br /><ul><li> ALL HINDU RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS LIKE PONGAL, DEEPAVALI, ETC ARE CELEBRATED WITH RELIGIOUS FERVOUR
  10. 10. AADI FESTIVAL IS CELEBERATED IN A GRAND MANNER ONCE IN A YEAR</li></li></ul><li>ENTERTAINMENT<br /><ul><li> COLOUR TELEVISION IS PRESENT ALMOST ALL HOUSES WITH CABLE CONNECTION. DISH ANTENNAS ARE ALSO PRESENT

  12. 12. MANY THEATERS ARE LOCATED IN THIS AREA

  16. 16. WATER FACILITY PROVIDED THROUGH WATER TANK AND HAND-PUMPS
  17. 17. THEY ARE IN RECEIPT OF FREE GAS STOVE
