10. In today’s world , some people worry about the planet. They dislike
the inefficiency of modern homes and disagree with the idea that we
can’t change the way we live .For these people, the ideal home is
one that does not harm the Earth.
Mike Reynolds, a famous architect, builds houses from recycled
materials to show how much we waste and what amazing things we
can do out of them. Mike’ s houses are built using the things that
other people throw away. His “earthships” as his houses are
called, are not only beautiful, but also comfortable and eco- friendly.
He uses bottles to create beautiful walls full of light that help people
save electricity. Old car tires (anvelope ) are used to build strong
back walls to protect them from cold northern winds.
The south walls are made from metal or glass bottles to provide the
house with daylight. The bottles are stuck together with earth; cement is
not used at all. The water comes from collected rain and snow.
Mike and his Earthship organization use their ability and experience to
help people all over the world. In 2010, they visited victims of the
earthquake in Haiti. They taught them how to build new homes quickly
and cheaply from materials they could find around, in this way they
reused things and cleaned up their neighbourhoods as well.
Mike’s ideas have drastically changed the way of building homes
and live responsibly to save the Earth –that is an eco-friendly way.
