2. HISTORY OF ADVERTS
• The first advert was made in September on the 22nd 1955.
• It was advertising Toothpaste and it was 70 seconds long.
• Adverts were shown in black and white.
• The length of the adverts were a lot longer than they are today.
• The presenter of the early adverts would be a known person
using the product, they would describe reasons for choosing the
product.
3. 1950-1965
• In 1950 advertisements were
dominated by soap powder
manufactures and food
advertising.
• In 1960 there was little car
advertisements because of an
agreement made between
manufactures and virtually no spirit
advertisements for the same
reason.
• In 1965 a report was sent to ban
cigarette advertisements.
4. 1970’S
• In 1970’s television adverts were considerably different to when
they first started, this is because the increasingly more realistic
pictures and colours.
• In the 1970’s the car company Datsun came over from Germany
and broke the agreement of not advertising cars.
• Towards the end of 1970’s cooperate advertisement began to
appear.
5. 1980-1993
• In the 1980’s advertisements changed again
due to the new outlets of:
- Channel 4
- Breakfast Television
• In late 1980’s interactive adverts were
introduced.
• 1993 the first advert for undertakers was
shown.
• TV adverts were originally created to cover
costs of making the programmes on TV.
