What's the deal with anonymous surveys? We tackle the most commonly asked questions about anonymous and semi-anonymous surveys. More answers, more honest feedback -- definitely a feature to check out!
7. • Anonymity is a feature that can be
turned on within Design in Premium
and Enterprise SoGoSurvey accounts.
7
8. • To make a survey anonymous:
• While editing your project, click the
Options icon in the Design menu bar
and select Anonymity.
• Choose to make your project
either Anonymous or Semi-Anonymous
(more on that later), click Save, and
you’re good to go!
• See more details here in our User Guide.

10. 10
• If you want to get honest feedback,
enabling Anonymity is a good idea.
• This is especially important when you
want participants to share honest
feedback about potentially sensitive
topics – without consequences.
11. • Anonymity can also help you stay
compliant with specific laws and
security standards that might be
necessary.
• For more reasons you might choose
Anonymity, check out this blog.
11
13. 13
• When you enable Anonymity, you
gain some trust from your
participants, but you lose a few
capabilities within the platform.
• Certain features are disabled to
ensure that the project stays
Anonymous.

• Data Pre-Populationoptions are
restricted in anonymous projects.
• Editable pre-population is available, but
hidden and un-editable pre-population
are unavailable. It's only logical –
anonymous should mean anonymous.

15
• Not only can you not see who said what,
you also won't know who responded to
the survey.
• In Track Survey, information about who
completed the survey is unavailable.
Participation
16. • However, you can still set up Reminders
for all participants that haven’t
responded. Keep in mind, you won’t be
able to see to whom these Reminders
were sent, etc.

17
• When a survey is Anonymous, the
participant’s IP address, email address,
and date and time of participationare
not collected.
Reporting
18. 18
• This means that when reporting, you
can’t see, Filter by, or Segment by these
details unless the participant provides
them in an answer.
20. • Some design errors can work against
your use of Anonymity.
• Because of these errors, it may
appear that the survey is not truly
anonymous or that the information
may be traced back to them.
20
21. • Avoid the following to keep your
participants’ trust:
• Using Mail Merge in the email template
to greet the person by name
• Using Pre-Population to pre-fill any
potentiallyidentifying information about
the participant (name, department, date
of birth, etc.)
• Asking for any identifying
information (especially if those questions
are Mandatory!), unless they indicate
that they would like to be contacted
21
22. 22
• Ensure your decisions are in line with
all organizational policies and legal
guidelines.
24. • Semi-Anonymity, available in the
Enterprise package, is similar to
regular Anonymity.
• In a Semi-Anonymous project, once
you expire the project, you can
request a list of participants from the
SoGoSurvey team.
24
25. • You still won’t be able to see who said
what, but you can find out who
participated.
• This is helpful in the event that you
need to confirm participation, to offer
credit, or to provide an incentive.
25
26. • To ensure confidentiality, responses
should only be reported collectively
or in critical segments that are large
enough to avoid revealing identities.
26
28. • If you’re still not sure if Anonymity is
right for your project, consult the
User Guide or sign up for a training
support call from within the Help
Center in your account.
28
29. Anonymity isn’t the right
choice for every project, but it's
a great way to grow trust and
improve data quality.
