Note: Answer all questions. Kindly note that answers for 10 marks questions should be approximately
of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme.
Q. 1. Research is a sequential method of enquiry, directed towards a clear implicit or explicit
objective. Describe in detail the steps to be carried out in a typical research study.
 Meaning of Research
 Listing the steps
 Explanation of the steps in a research study
Answer: In the broadest sense of the word, the definition of research includes any gathering of data,
information and facts for the advancement of knowledge. It is a Systematic investigative process
employed to increase or revise current knowledge by discovering new facts. It is divided into two
general categories:
(1) Basic research is inquiry aimed at increasing scientific knowledge, and
(2) Applied research is effort aimed at using
Q. 2. What are descriptive research designs? Explain the different kinds of descriptive research
designs.
Answer: As the name implies, descriptive research methods are used when the researcher wants to
describe specific behavior as it occurs in the environment. There are a variety of descriptive research
methods available, and once again, the nature of the question that needs to be answered drives which
method is used. Traditionally, descriptive research involves three main categories: observation, case
studies, and surveys. Let's take a closer look at each of these individually.
Sometimes an individual wants to know something about a group of people. Maybe the individual is a
would-be senator and wants to know who they're
Q. 3. The procedure of testing hypothesis requires a researcher to adopt several steps. Describe in
brief all such steps.
Answer: Meaning of hypothesis can be defined in two ways:
1.It is a supposition or explanation (theory) that is provisionally accepted in order to interpret certain
events or phenomena, and to provide guidance for further investigation. A hypothesis may be proven
correct or wrong, and must be capable of refutation. If it remains unrefuted by facts, it is said to be
verified or corroborated.
2.Statistics:It is an assumption about certain
Q. 4.a. Distinguish between:
i. Schedules and Questionnaires
ii. Open ended and closed ended questions
b. Explain the questionnaire design process.
Answer: A schedule is a structure of set of questions on a given topic which are asked by the interviewer
or investigator personally. The order of questions, the language of the questions and the arrangement of
parts of the schedule are not changed. However, the
Q5. a. What is the analysis of variance? What are the assumptions of the technique? Give a few
examples where the techniques could be used.
Answer : Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) is a statistical method used to test differences between two or
more means. It may seem odd that the technique is called "Analysis of Variance" rather than "Analysis of
Means." As you will see, the name is appropriate because inferences about means are made by
analyzing variance.
b. The following data represents the number of units produced by four operators during three
different shifts:
Shifts Operator
A B C D
I 10 8 12 13
II 10 12 14 15
III 12 10 11 14
Perform a two-way analysis of variance and interpret the result.
Answer : Two-way ANOVA determines how a response is affected by two factors. For example, you
might measure a response to three different drugs in both men and women.
Source of variation
Q. 6. Explain the Structure of the Research Report. What are the guidelines for effective report
writing?
 Explanation of the Structure of the Research Report
 Guidelines for effective report writing
Answer: It contains an overview on writing academic papers such as the term paper, thesis, research
paper or other academic essays written in the format of the research paper. We have tried to integrate
thoughts from the APA-format and the MLA-format. It contains an overview on writing academic papers
such as the term paper, thesis, research paper or other academic essays written in the format of the
research paper. The structure of a research paper might seem quite stiff, but it serves a purpose: It will
help find information you are looking for
