BLENDED LEARNING SERIES
This five-session series is structured to support teachers with blended learning*. Although the sessions are targeted at blended
learning, the outcomes and activities can be adapted for exclusively face-to-face and online learning as well. Elementary, middle, and
high school contexts will be considered in each session.
*Blended learning for this context refers to student classes where there is a blend of face-to-face and remote learning.
Session 1: Distance Learning Approaches
• Explore three different approaches to Distance Learning and how they fit within a remote/blended
learning model.
• Identify strategies that best fit each approach.
• Explore and analyze the contexts that best support each approach.
Session 2: Planning for Multiple Learning Approaches
Explore the core concepts and purpose of blended learning.
• Explore how to design blended learning using asynchronous and synchronous online activities.
• Consider rotation stations to scaffold confidence with remote learning and incorporate multiple
learning stances.
Session 3: Supporting Student Autonomy and Inviting Students into the Learning Environment
• Explore how to invite students into the learning environment through strategies that foster comfort and
confidence.
• Explore how to support student autonomy through:
o Structuring clear pathways to weekly expectations and activities.
o Presenting the material within one cohesive package.
o Routine connections and check-ins.
Session 4: The Art of Asynchronous Communication and Synchronous
Remote Teaching
• Explore asynchronous communication (text and video) for:
o Student feedback
o Instructions
o Parent communication
3. • Explore how to structure synchronous sessions for maximum engagement and learning opportunities.
Session 5: Student-led Learning: Learning Logs and ePortfolios
• Explore learning logs and online portfolios to support student autonomy, metacognition, and deep
understanding.
• Explore scaffolding co-constructed learning and the role of learning logs and e-portfolios within co-
constructed learning.
Audience: Grades 1-12 educators

Jon Orr and Kyle Pearce: If you haven’t checked out “Making Math Moments Matter”, give
it a look! These guys are down to earth, realistic, and engaging. They have weekly podcasts
and some video PD. I love their
message that you can’t
always post a learning target in
math! Revealing too much at the beginning of the
lesson can eliminate wonder, conjecture, and
discovery!
Here’s one coming
up

Kyle and Jon use “Three Act Maths” (as per the
work of Dan Meyer). These are ways to introduce
topics that actually get kids thinking. Yeah, not
just copying the method and completing
questions as per our instructions, which is a very
passive and ineffective way to learn mathematics.
Registration Fees: Early Bird $270
Standard $310 Late $350
4. Peter Liljedahl, quoted here by Kyle and Jon, call this “studenting” rather than learning. So true! We’ve all
seen it!

Education Expert, Chris Hogbin to discover how you can reduce math anxiety in
your classroom!
What's covered in the webinar:
• Where does math anxiety come from?
• How schools and curriculum unwittingly contribute to student anxiety
• How teachers can help reduce anxiety with evidence-based tips
The session will be interactive so we'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas (or you can just listen
along, that's fine too!).
Can't make that time? That's okay, we know teachers are busy people! Register for the webinar and
we'll send you a recording so you can catch up at a time that suits you.

5. Here is an excerpt from friendly
email you will get when you
register for this webinar:
You are going to get some
‘secrets’ to building math fluency
for ALL your students in the
webinar.
Just by signing up for this
webinar, it tells me...
1. you are focusing on things that you can control in this current situation….like deciding how you can
best build fluency for ALL your students.
2. you want to help your students have the best chance at success in math as possible, whether that’s
right now doing distance learning or hybrid or full in-person.
To get you started, download the Building Math Fluency Starter Kit. This kit will help you get started in your
Building Math Fluency journey.
It’s my 30+ page guide that basically compiles all that I’ve learned in my 20 years in education
about how kids build their math fluency. Plus, of course it’s also influenced by all the hundreds
of books and articles I’ve read.
I know life is busy (I have 4 kiddos, so my life is hectic), but I hope that you will carve out 1 hour
without distractions to join me for the training. We will go into some ideas from the kit a bit deeper
and give you some of my favorite things to do with kids to build their fluency throughout
elementary school.
Can't wait to see you there
