In support of Suicide Prevention Month, Theater of War is coming to Ft Bragg on 16 September.
âTheater of War presents readings of Sophoclesâ Ajax and Philoctetes to military and civilian communities across the United States and Europe. These ancient plays timelessly and universally depict the psychological and physical wounds inflicted upon warriors by war. By presenting these plays to military and civilian audiences, our hope is to de-stigmatize psychological injury, increase awareness of post- deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family, community, and troop resilience. Using Sophoclesâ plays to forge a common vocabulary for openly discussing the impact of war on individuals, families, and communities, these events will be aimed at generating compassion and understanding between diverse audiences.â
At the end of the play there is a panel of Soldiers and Family members who share their story of struggle with dealing with the effects of war. The production is asking for a spouse who would be willing to communicate their story.
Also, we have limited seats for Spouses for the 1030 â 1200 showing at the Main Post Theater on 16 September. Please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
If you are interested in sharing your story or attending the play, please RSVP to jill.f.hulsey-belt.civ@mail.mil. (Please make appropriate childcare arrangements if you are attending.)

Womack Army Medical Center is renovating the Department of Emergency Medicine to better serve Fort Braggâs service members, Families and other beneficiaries in the Fort Bragg and Sandhills area.
The Emergency Department will remain open during the entire renovation process. During the transition, Womack Army Medical Center will continue operations in dual areas, with the Emergency Department temporarily moving into modular buildings adjacent to the current facility during the renovation. The transition to care in the modular building should begin in the coming weeks.
âWe estimate that the project will take about one year to complete. However, our patients will not see any interruption in care during this renovation,â said Col. (Dr.) Frank Christopher, interim chief, Department of Emergency Medicine.
The renovated Emergency Department will feature increased patient privacy with private rooms, improved infection control measures and will accommodate Family members desiring to accompany the patient. The renovation will also add more restrooms and a larger reception area as well as specialty care areas. The renovation utilized modern design to improve and speed the flow of patients through the emergency department.
Womack Army Medical Centerâs Emergency Department is among the busiest in the Federal Government - inclusive of the Department of Defense, the Department of Veterans Affairs system and the U.S. Public Health Service; in fiscal year 2013, Womackâs Emergency Department volume treated over 68,000 patients.
Womack Army Medical Center is currently recruiting physician assistants and nurse practitioners to provide acute care services in the Emergency Department, as well as paramedics, EMTs, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, and medical support assistants. For more information log onto Usajobs.gov.

Pilot Program to Launch to Help Spouses Earn College Credit
Defense officials are launching a pilot program in the fall that will
help military spouses put together portfolios of education and work
experience for possible college credit.
Itâs part of the Defense Departmentâs continuing effort to improve
education and career opportunities for spouses, who face issues with
maintaining careers through multiple moves with their service
members.
The program will help spouses get college credits that can serve as
transfer credits to a college or university. These credits âcan really help
expedite things and save money,â said Lee McMahon, acting program
manager for DoDâs Spouse Education and Career Opportunities
program, in an Aug. 18 briefing to DoDâs Military Family Readiness
Council.
Defense officials wanted to provide a resource for spouses who are not
eligible for the My Career Advancement Accounts program,
McMahon said.
MyCAA provides financial assistance to spouses of service members
in paygrades E1 to E5, O1, O2, W1 and W2 for up to $4,000 in costs for
education, training, licenses and credentialing related to a portable
career. But spouses who use MyCAA also are eligible for this pilot
program.
The pilot is in partnership with the Council for Adult and
Experiential Learning. The list of colleges and universities that will
accept those credits is proprietary to the council and will not be
available online, McMahon said.
However, spouses will have access to that list through SECO career
counselors, she said, so the first step is to contact a counselor through
Military OneSource at 800-342-9647. Counselors will explain the
requirements, and look at the list of educational institutions to
ensure spouses are not wasting their time, McMahon said.
You can read the rest of the article at Military Times.
