Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has been around for many years. Recently it sparked a huge amount of interest because of the success of
OpenAI’s conversational AI and Generative AI. We are going to explore the various components of AI and the various “flavors”.

Previously, for AI to understand data, it had to be
carefully organized and tagged. Now, it can digest
unstructured data and make determinations

examples. For instance,
Google’s automatic spam
filtering learns as users report
spam.

might need to learn the correct
response for the correct situation or
identify dangers or inappropriate
interactions
Precision
The idea of garbage data in
garbage data out. If you flood
an AI with bad data and don’t
set the proper syntax or
thresholds you will get
incoherent results
Context
AI’s can struggle with understanding context. For
example, asking Siri ”call me an ambulance” may yield
“OK, from now on, I will call you Ambulance”

Run-away AI’s
Tay (Thinking About You)
Released on March 23 2016 via Twitter, Tay (as
TayTweets on Twitter) was designed to mimic the
interactions of 19 year old girl through learned
conversations on Twitter.
Users began tweeting politically incorrect phrases to Tay,
and thus, Tay responded and answered with the learned
inappropriate behavior – as it was it was not taught what
the difference between Good Language and Bad
Language was.

• Generator Network: Creates new data from random input.
• Iterative Learning: Continuous model adjustments during training to
improve data generation.
• Sampling: Utilizes the trained model to generate new data samples
(improperly done gives you AI “hallucinations”
• Most AI models that generate context are trained on things found on the
World Wide Web

• Can use tools like ChatGPT or similar to look at weak
code and ask how to fix it … in hopes of tricking the AI
to provide entry points
• Remember how easy it was to see a malicious email
because of grammar or spelling errors? AI fixes that
(even tools like Grammarly have been helping)
• Ai digests a vast amount of information and can write
official looking emails posing as a leader of the college.
• It also can provide harder to find details of staff that
may be informative enough to answer security
questions, etc.
