Speaking
Speaking means to express our thoughts or feeling in a
spoken language. we can say that it is the act of conveying
information to others.
Speaking skills
Speaking skills are the skills that give us the ability to
communicate effectively. These skills allow the speaker to
convey the message a thoughtful and conveying manner.

 Speaking can be formal and informal
 Formal speaking
Formal speaking occurs in business or academic
situation ,or when meeting people for the first time.
 Informal speaking
Informal speaking is typically used with family and
friends ,or people you know well.

There are three types of speaking skills
1. Interactive speaking
2. partially interactive speaking
3. Non interactive speaking
Types of speaking
Interactive speaking
 It means face to face conversation and mobile phone talks
in which we clearly listen and speak. In this situation ,we
have a chance to ask for verification and repetition from
our conversation partner.
partially interactive speaking
 in this speaking situation ,a speaker gives speech to live
audience. In such of conversation ,the audience does not
interrupt the speech. However, the speaker can see the
audience and judge from the expression of their faces
whether his speech is being understood or not.

Non interactive speaking
It includes recording a speech for radio broadcast or
watching news on TV etc. The audience cannot do any
questioning from speaker and the speaker does not
know whether his speech is being understood or not.

 There are four elements of speaking skills
1) Vocabulary
2) Grammar
3) Pronunciation
4) Fluency

 Vocabulary
Vocabulary are the words any languages which have
specific meaning. As we learn more vocabulary it will
help us to speak more effectively in any languages.
 Grammar
Grammar is the rules and regulation of any
languages that helps the learners to bring
improvement in his or her speaking skills.

 Pronunciation
This elements also will helps the speaker to speak very
clearly in any language. It is about how to pronounce
the words correctly.
• Fluency
This is last elements of speaking skills. When learners
will be known how to pronounce, organize and make
the word or sentence then they can speak fluently.
Loud reading can enhance the fluency.
How to introduce leaners
to the sound system of
English by Samaira saleh
 When introducing learners to the sound system of
English , it is most important to start with the basic
sound of phonemes of the language. You can begin
by teaching them different vowel and consonant
sounds and their move on the common sound
pattern and pronunciation rules. Practice activities
like listening to and repeating words, sentences, and
tongue twister can be helpful.
Few tips to introduce learners to the
sound system of English
1) Start with the basic
Teach the sounds of individual letters and their
corresponding phonetic symbols. Example the letter a
can have different sound in word like cat and car.
2)Focus on word stress
English words upon have stress on certain syllables. help
learner understand and practice word stress to improve
their pronunciation natural rhythm.
3)Introduce common sound pattern
English has many pattern such as vowel , diphthong, and
4)consonant clusters. Teach these pattern and provide
examples for learner to practice.

1) Practice listening and repeating
Encourage learners to listen to native speaker and imitate
their pronunciation repeat words, phrases and sentences to
develop their pronunciation skills.
Use multimedia resources
Online tools apps and video can provide interactive exercise
and audio sample for learners to practice their
pronunciation

Practice make perfect ,the more learner engage with sound
system of English , the more comfortable and confident
they will become.
Helping learners to improve their
pronunciation through use of simple task
and exercise. By sharaingul
1) Word recognition
Have the learners to repeat the words, after the
focusing on specific sounds they find challenges ,so it
will help them to practice. Examples ; students,
humble, apple
2) Tongue twisters
Use of tongue twister that focus on particular sounds
of combination them slowly then increase the speed as
the learners became more comfortable.
Examples ; she sells seashells, by the seashore

3) Minimal pairs
Minimal pairs are pairs of words that differ by only one
sounds. Such as cat and bat they help us understand
and distinguish between sounds in a language.
Examples ; sheep , ship
4) Role playing
It is means when people act in different characters to
explore in different perspective or situation. Then
their speaking skills will be developed.

5) Record and compare
Here learners record themselves and compare their
recording to native speaker . Then this will helps the
learners to bring improvement their speaking .
6) Vowel and consonant focus
Vowel and consonant are the basic building blocks of
the spoken language ,work on specific vowel or
consonant sounds that are challenging for the learners .
Use word and phrases that emphasize those sounds.

  • 2. Introduction by Awais Ghani Speaking Speaking means to express our thoughts or feeling in a spoken language. we can say that it is the act of conveying information to others. Speaking skills Speaking skills are the skills that give us the ability to communicate effectively. These skills allow the speaker to convey the message a thoughtful and conveying manner.
  • 3. Cont.….  Speaking can be formal and informal  Formal speaking Formal speaking occurs in business or academic situation ,or when meeting people for the first time.  Informal speaking Informal speaking is typically used with family and friends ,or people you know well.
  • 4. Types of speaking skills by Behroz Bashir There are three types of speaking skills 1. Interactive speaking 2. partially interactive speaking 3. Non interactive speaking
  • 5. Types of speaking Interactive speaking  It means face to face conversation and mobile phone talks in which we clearly listen and speak. In this situation ,we have a chance to ask for verification and repetition from our conversation partner. partially interactive speaking  in this speaking situation ,a speaker gives speech to live audience. In such of conversation ,the audience does not interrupt the speech. However, the speaker can see the audience and judge from the expression of their faces whether his speech is being understood or not.
  • 6. Cont.……. Non interactive speaking It includes recording a speech for radio broadcast or watching news on TV etc. The audience cannot do any questioning from speaker and the speaker does not know whether his speech is being understood or not. +
  • 7. Elements of speaking skills by Abdul Salam  There are four elements of speaking skills 1) Vocabulary 2) Grammar 3) Pronunciation 4) Fluency
  • 8. Cont.….  Vocabulary Vocabulary are the words any languages which have specific meaning. As we learn more vocabulary it will help us to speak more effectively in any languages.  Grammar Grammar is the rules and regulation of any languages that helps the learners to bring improvement in his or her speaking skills.
  • 9. Cont.….  Pronunciation This elements also will helps the speaker to speak very clearly in any language. It is about how to pronounce the words correctly. • Fluency This is last elements of speaking skills. When learners will be known how to pronounce, organize and make the word or sentence then they can speak fluently. Loud reading can enhance the fluency.

How to introduce leaners to the sound system of English by Samaira saleh  When introducing learners to the sound system of English , it is most important to start with the basic sound of phonemes of the language. You can begin by teaching them different vowel and consonant sounds and their move on the common sound pattern and pronunciation rules. Practice activities like listening to and repeating words, sentences, and tongue twister can be helpful.
  • 11. Few tips to introduce learners to the sound system of English 1) Start with the basic Teach the sounds of individual letters and their corresponding phonetic symbols. Example the letter a can have different sound in word like cat and car. 2)Focus on word stress English words upon have stress on certain syllables. help learner understand and practice word stress to improve their pronunciation natural rhythm. 3)Introduce common sound pattern English has many pattern such as vowel , diphthong, and 4)consonant clusters. Teach these pattern and provide examples for learner to practice.

Use multimedia resources Online tools apps and video can provide interactive exercise and audio sample for learners to practice their pronunciation Remember Practice make perfect ,the more learner engage with sound system of English , the more comfortable and confident they will become.

By sharaingul 1) Word recognition Have the learners to repeat the words, after the focusing on specific sounds they find challenges ,so it will help them to practice. Examples ; students, humble, apple 2) Tongue twisters Use of tongue twister that focus on particular sounds of combination them slowly then increase the speed as the learners became more comfortable. Examples ; she sells seashells, by the seashore
  • 14. Cont.,,,,, 3) Minimal pairs Minimal pairs are pairs of words that differ by only one sounds. Such as cat and bat they help us understand and distinguish between sounds in a language. Examples ; sheep , ship 4) Role playing It is means when people act in different characters to explore in different perspective or situation. Then their speaking skills will be developed. Examples ; doctors , Mubarak, teacher

Then this will helps the learners to bring improvement their speaking . 6) Vowel and consonant focus Vowel and consonant are the basic building blocks of the spoken language ,work on specific vowel or consonant sounds that are challenging for the learners . Use word and phrases that emphasize those sounds.
