Introduction
 High blood pressure is expected to cause 7.5 million (12.8% of all causes
of death) deaths per year. More than 50 percent of the patients do not
have a clear concept about the treatment of high blood pressure.(1)
 There is a need to control hypertension and prevent its complications
through effective community interventions. (2)
 Physicians were encouraged to follow national hypertension treatment
guidelines and were provided with a range of patient education
materials to evaluate the effect of the intervention on cardiovascular
risk factors. Applied approaches of health education to the general
population as a component of public health and clinical practice can
help prevent blood pressure from increasing. (3)
2
Research Significance
 To increase awareness among hypertensive patients about hypertension in
order to decrease morbidity and mortality rate.
3
Rationale
 Lack of awareness regarding hypertension and activities to maintain
blood pressure level.
4
Research objective
 To assess the outcomes of health education on maintaining blood
pressure in hypertensive patients.
 To determine the difference of knowledge regarding awareness of
hypertension before and after individual basis health education.
5
Research Question
 Do hypertensive patients maintain blood pressure level by
health education?
6
Methods and material
 Inclusion criteria
 Those patients, known case of hypertension with minimum one year
hypertension come in Medical OPDs of Tertiary care hospital will be
included in this study.
 Hypertension patients having age from 30-55years will be included in this
study.
7
Exclusion criteria.
 Hypertensive Patients without complications of hypertension
will be excluded from this study.
8
Study design
 Randomized control trial study design will be proffered.
Sample population
 Hypertension patients come in OPD’s at Civil Hospital Karachi.
9
Sampling techniques
 Non-probability Purposive Sampling technique will be used.
10
Sample size
 The Sample size will be tried to comprise of 100 (+/-) subjects
because it is not estimated yet.
11

 The data collection will be started after an approval from the Institutional
Review Board (IRB)-Civil hospital Karachi and Ethical Review Committee
.The data will be collected from Medical OPD. Informed consent of
participants will be taken after explaining the purpose of study .Non-
probability; Purposive Sampling techniques will be adopted. First of all
hypertension concerning awareness questionnaire will be asked from
ODD days control group of hypertensive patients and these patients will
be called on same day of next week for assessment and health education.
Education session will be conducted weekly Basis . Pre intervention and
post intervention will be done in one group of odd days like 1(Monday), 3
(Wednesday), 5 (Friday). These OPD days or days will control group of my
study.
14
Statistical Analysis
 The data will be entered in epidata 3.1 and will be analyze on SPSS
version- 16.0.Demographic data like age, weight, Height, Blood
pressure, BMI would be analyzed by using frequency and
percentage. The knowledge of hypertensive patients would be
analyzed in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, mean
percentage and standard deviation .T- test is used to analyze the
knowledge demographic variables .The level of significance would
be set at 0.05 levels to test the significance of difference.
15
Study Tool
 A self developed demographic questionnaire will be design in simple
English language.
