3. COMPETENCES DEVELOPED BY ROSSELLA AZZARA
The following summary is a result of a reflection and self-assessment process that took place during and after the project, under the
supervision and guidance of the project coordinator Erika Pataki.
KEY COMPETENCES
Based on the EU framework for Key Competences for lifelong learning (2018).
MULTILINGUAL COMPETENCE
I already spoke in english, but now i improved it. My everyday life has helped me a lot: going out for a walk, going shopping, going to
events in the city, moving to other cities, have new friends. I feel more confident.
PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND LEARNING TO LEARN COMPETENCE
I wrote the topics to learn in a notebook and I practiced over time with events of daily life, in the little things of the days I lived and of the
work I did. I took care about myself and organize activities very well day by day with lists. I learned to use more Wordpress, Canva and
Facebook Creator, how to do a social page and how to manage it. I learned the squad game and how to collaborate with other people
and organize everything. I learned to move on and on. I learned how to accept failure. I learned how to prepare an editorial plan and
how project a brand. On myself I discovered that I have a lot of inner strength and creativity. Things I knew I had, but have never really
been aware of them until now. I understood this because through this experience I got involved at 360 degrees. I have really dealt with
many aspects: from the design of the brand, to the design of the products, to the logo, to the editorial plan and strategy, to the copy,
to the photos, to the catalog format, to the involvement of several associations and techniques that could give a added value to the
creation of the brand, to the management of other volunteers.
CITIZENSHIP COMPETENCE
I learned that everyone has a different way of experiencing relationships, religion, school, work, money, politics, conflict and the theme
of global warming and diversity. Some come from countries of conflict (Palestine for example), others from conditions of poverty with
a strong desire for redemption. At the arrival meeting in Budapest I met an Indian boy who told me that he lived in extreme poverty in
his country. He is very good at drawing and he told me that he wanted to learn more and more. He was very humble and didn't know
many artists because he hadn't studied them. He admired me for the "art" I produced, and I admired him because he really has a lot
of talent and I hope that one day not too far away he can be realized. I consider myself very lucky compared to some of them, and I
admire them because despite the difficulties they have a great desire to get involved and change their destiny for the better. I feel much
more motivated to discover new things. I want to be surprised at the things there are to see. I want to know new cultures, new people,
new places and be a citizen of the world.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP COMPETENCE
Thanks to this project I learned to sew, to embroider, the risograph printing technique, creative recycling, making jewelry with rubber
and cement, paper recycling, personalization of diaries, handmade brand identity. At first I brainstorm together with the other members
of my association. Everyone says their idea, it doesn't matter whether they are good or bad ideas, everything is welcome, it serves

4. to create a flow of thought. Then we write everything down and then move on to sifting through and selecting the ideas that seem
best to us. Then we organize everything according to the lists: what materials we need, what tools and techniques to use, establish
tasks and times. And start the work process. I consider myself a fairly active person and who likes to take the initiative especially in the
workplace. So I think I started taking the initiative from the very beginning of the project, throwing myself headlong into every activity
and organizing my work and that of the other volunteers.
CULTURAL AWARENESS AND EXPRESSION COMPETENCE
If you volunteer you cannot afford to be mentally closed, it takes a strong spirit of adaptation and acceptance towards others. So I
immediately showed myself well disposed towards cultures other than mine, indeed I even wanted to know more and more. metimes
it happened to me (and sometimes it still happens) that maybe I don't know how to express myself because I lack the right words or a
specific word. In that case, I use google translate, and if I don't have it at hand, I gesticulate or turn the words around to describe that
particular word I'm missing. I am a firm believer in "the end justifies the means".
DIGITAL COMPETENCE
During my project I used Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Facebook, Facebook Creator, Instagram,
Instagram Insight, Wordpress, Pinterest, Muzli, Google pack. I use the internet as a deep knowledge tool. I try to document myself as
much as possible and then make a distinction between what can actually be useful for my work or not. I think that the information that I
have taken from the internet and subjected to a careful selection is very useful.
MATHEMATICAL COMPETENCE AND COMPETENCE IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ENGINEERING
Whenever a problem arose, I tried to be aware of it and to find a turning point. I have taken these as experiences to prevent future
problems. I am generally a thrifty person and have tried to budget all our expenses. All we used were recycled materials and what we
bought we got from the flea markets. In front of unexpected situations I stopped and thought about what was the best way to go and in
the end I made the choices that I thought were right.
LITERACY COMPETENCE
Our association has a blog where we had to write one article a month and I was very happy with this because I really like writing. I've
been writing since I was little and this was one of the reasons that led me to appreciate my experience even more. When I talk to
people who have a different language from mine, I try to translate what I say as much as possible. Obviously then if there are idioms
or specific words that cannot be translated from my language, I try to make a more detailed explanation of what I mean to avoid
misinterpretation. I honestly think that communicating in another language is a great exercise for the mind. There are idioms that are
much more effective in English and are also more catchy, but sometimes I miss speaking my language especially when there are
expressions that cannot be translated into other languages. I feel nostalgia for it.
