Germany and Spain have very different youth unemployment rates, at 10.8% and 39.2% respectively. In Germany, unemployment differs between the more industrialized West and East, while in Spain a lack of connection between education and jobs is a key issue. While youth unemployment dropped in half between 2005-2012 in Germany, it remained unchanged in Spain. The Spanish government is trying measures used successfully in Germany, like programs combining study and work to earn money and gain skills, as well as part-time "mini jobs", to address their high unemployment problems.
