You have been working for the Soto Board of Education in Japan for the past six months. You
are the only foreigner working in the office and were hired to assist with the English language
program in the citys public schools. You recently graduated with a degree in management from
the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Although not a prerequisite for this position,
you have studied and speak some Japanese. You decided to spend some time in Japan in order
improve your Japanese and to make yourself more marketable when you return to Canada to start
your career. This is your first time in Japan and aside from the inevitable culture shock; you have
had relatively no problem adjusting to your new surroundings. You attribute your ease of
adjusting to the Japanese culture to the organization back in Canada which hired you. They were
very thorough in briefing you about life in Japan and provided you with what you considered to
be excellent pre-departure training. One aspect that you find hard to adjust to is the commitment
which the Japanese have for their work. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. and officially ends at 5:00
p.m., but no one ever leaves the office before 7 or 8:00 p.m. The Japanese employees also work
on Saturdays, which you find absurd since it infringes on what you consider to be personal and
family time and you know that their salaries do not reflect the extra time put in on the weekends.
You have a standard North American contract that you were given before leaving Canada which
stipulates your hours, number of vacation days, how many days sick leave youre entitled to, etc.
You work from Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 5:00 p.m., but stay later if you have legitimate work
to do (which is practically never). No one has ever asked you to stay after 5 p.m. and you have
never been requested to come in on the weekend. You know that you receive what could be
considered preferential treatment but the conditions of your employment were carefully outlined
in your contract, and the people in your office seem to be following them to the letter which suits
you fine. The only person in your office who speaks English is your supervisor, Mr. Higashi, and
since your Japanese is not very good, you rely on him for all important office communications.
Mr. Higashi is what you consider to be a traditional middle aged Japanese man. He works late
every night and often goes out with the other men in the office to discuss business at the local
sake establishments. He seems to have very conservative values and frowns upon innovation or
change. His wife stays home to run the household and raise their two children, and Mr. Higashi
doesnt think that women should be in the work force after marriage. Mr. Higashi is constantly
bugging you to immerse yourself in Japanese culture and lifestyle. When you started practicing
Kendo, a Japanese style of fencing, he was very pleased and you hoped he would drop the issue
once and for all. You dont mind trying or adopting some o.
The weekend is the most awaited time of a week on which the hard-working Aussies rely to relax and refuel themselves to a fresh start of another run of routine. I love wearing my old casual t-shirt on the weekend, which says “Find The Magic Of This Moment” with a margarita glass in one hand and a book in the other.
However, we observed that the weekend of Australia is looked at from two different perspectives. The first ones wanted to treat it like self-pampering and wellness time, and the other feels that it will be over and we will go back to the same old routine, so what is the point of distracting the mind for two days.
1. What is on your mind And what elseAs my wife and I have k.docxambersalomon88660
1. What is on your mind? And what else?
As my wife and I have kind of put on hold things till after the summer, I feel like it a really good choice. We did not put coaching on hold, nor has she stopped looking for a job, but rather she is looking for a GS job that could take months to get due to the background checks and application process. We have come to the realization that we will have to commute as we were trying to avoid that, but reality has it that if we want the jobs, we want then we are going to have to.
2. What is the real challenge for you now that we have gone through this process?
It was a real challenge to understand her side, and just when I thought I had it I would be back at square one. For instance, I knew she wanted a job from seven to three in the afternoon and I know my daughter has therapy but for some reason in my brain I was just not thinking about that, but I was thinking about money, job, and her working. Our last conversation helped me to hear this instead of just listening to her.
3. What is the desired goal? (You can have them do an exercise for you where they draw {pictures} their goal and where they see themselves)
That is a very interesting concept, I asked my wife about this and she said that it would be a picture of her behind a desk, in work clothes, and having some responsibility. I asked about a list she would make also. Other then her main goal of working her big concerns are her working and able to support our family at least for a little bit when I retire so that I do not have to rush into the work force, and I can take some time.
4. What else can I do to support you? Who else can help? Do they know?
I can honestly only be there for her right now. I offered to go to a hiring event with her, she is nervous about going and she asked if I could come and support her. I am helping her get a resume together as well as work on her cover letter to hand out at this event. I think just being there for her and helping her with the transition is what is going to help her most. She is independent and can mange by herself but does better support. She leans on her friends for support, she also reaches out to a Facebook group that helps spouses find jobs as well as post job events, she also has made appointments with the people that help write resumes on post to get incite and have professional help with it.
5. If you say yes to this, dedicate your time to this, what are you saying no to? This is key, make a commitment.
She has my full support; I offer any help that I can as well as any leads that I can with the help of people that I have met in my line of work. We are both fully committed, and I think that is what is making this process go further beucase we have the same goals as well as wants for the outcome we are going for.
6. What has been most useful to you?
Mapping out what she wants the outcome to be. It had changed and she is still back and forth between working GS or USAA but in the end .
You’re thinking of reading books about meditation, self-hypnosis. All this for selfgrowth and personal development.

horario, llegan prendas nuevas.

You have been at an industry trade show in Toronto all week. At the end of the show you are
scheduled to move to another show in Halifax. That move includes two cameras. You have made
arrangements to carry the cameras with you on your airline flight and planned to ship the two
lithium batteries by ground courier. The exhibitor/salesperson in the booth next to you knows of
your intention to ship the batteries and offers to take both the cameras and batteries with her in
her car, as a favour, as she is driving to that same show in Nova Scotia. Somewhere on the way
to that show, the salesperson from the booth next door loses the camera and the batteries. Discuss
the liabilities involved with this exchange and offer some remedy/recourse for your firm, specific
to the lost batteries. (5 marks).

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

You have been working for the Soto Board of Education in Japan for t.pdf
You dont mind trying or adopting some of the Japanese ways, but you dont like
feeling pressured to convert. After all, you have been hired only on a one year contract basis,
which is renewable to a maximum of three, so you know that you are not going to be staying in
Japan forever. -2- Last Monday you woke up with a severe fever and sore throat. You called in
2. sick and were told by Mr. Higashi to rest until you were better, but to bring in a doctors note
when you came back to work. After hanging up the phone, you thought that it was a bit
ridiculous to get out of bed and go see a doctor about a simple flu, but you went to the clinic and
got a note for your office. Two days later you returned to the office and brought with you the
note from the physician. Mr. Higashi seemed concerned about your health and asked if you were
feeling any better. You handed him the note telling him it was from your doctor. He took it
without so much as a thank you and threw it onto a pile of papers on his desk. Around mid-
morning, the office accountant comes to your desk with forms for you to sign. In spite of your
limited Japanese, you are able to understand that these forms had to do with your absence and
that you are signing for two days of your paid vacation time. You assume that she has made a
mistake and try to explain to her that you were not on vacation, but were sick and that your
contract allows you to take sick leave. The accountant appears to not understand, and motions for
you to sign the papers. You go over to Mr. Higashis desk and tell him about the
misunderstanding. To your surprise he tells you that there is no misunderstanding and that this is
standard procedure in Japan. He tells you that since you work for a Japanese company, you may
as well start behaving like a Japanese employee. He tells you that Japanese employees normally
do not take their allotted paid vacation time each year because of their dedication to their work.
He also says that when Japanese employees are sick, it is not uncommon for them to deduct the
time off from their paid vacation and not use their sick leave out of respect for their employers.
Mr. Higashi says that this is what you should do. You are so dumbfounded that you go back to
your desk without speaking. Back at your desk you cannot believe what just happened. You
know that your contract allows more than twenty days of sick leave and this is the first time that
you have been sick. Your contract says nothing about having to bring in a doctors note, but you
think that it should help to strengthen your case since it proves that you really were ill. You
realize that your supervisor wants you to blend in to the Japanese way of doing things, but this is
a fine time for him to start and besides, you have already planned a big vacation in the spring. If
you lose two days now, you wont be able to go on your trip. The accountant has already come
back twice to have you sign the paper and you have sent her away both times. You have
approached your supervisor again on the subject and he is still adamant on the fact that this is the
Japanese way of doing things and that it is time for you to Do as the Romans do. You try to
reason with him but he refuses to talk to you. There is no way that you are going to sign the
paper for paid vacation. Your contract says that you are entitled to sick leave and you have a
doctors certificate to prove that you were. You know that you arent being unreasonable; you just
want what is rightfully yours. It is more than the spring vacation at stake; it is the principle of the
matter.
