The Advocacy Project: A Multi-modal Composition
Like the HCP Project, the main assignment here is a multi-modal composition that uses various rhetorical positions and different types of evidence to make arguments. This one, however, is a bit different from the first in that over the course of these next few weeks, as you research and evaluate various sources, and as you draft, craft and organize your thoughts and evidence, you will at some point have to make a decision to become an advocate for solutions to your central problem in at least one of the following three ways: 1) you might advocate for one or more specific solutions to the significant and current political/social/cultural problem that sits at the center of your focus; 2) you might locate the next steps to potentially solving your project’s central problem; or, 3) you might argue for why the current solutions do not work and leave your readers with questions about possible next steps. In other words, your arguments for advocating solutions in combination with the analytical reasons you provide for why you have chosen to focus on particular solutions will after weeks and weeks of diligent engagement become a richly-textured thesis statement, one that deepens your articulation of the problem at hand and argues for convincing for ways to move forward.
When we think of the act of advocating and when we imagine a person or an organization who is an advocate for a cause, we think of strongly held opinions delivered with intensity from a rhetorical position that appears unshakable, deeply confident in the ethical rightness of its arguments and the accuracy of its knowledge. This course requires a long-term investigative project. This project will require the formation of teams. As a team you will be asked to
defend a claim about a relevant political concept or phenomenon, and to connect
each of the following cultural artifacts to a concept or set of related concepts addressed in this course:

This project must include an explanatory essay and a presentation, which you will turn in as a team. The explanatory essay must conform either to MLA format or the Chicago Manual of Style, and be of sufficient length to incorporate each of the examples listed above. Depending on the size of your team, the minimum page length shall vary as follows:
· For a single author, the minimum length shall be 12 full pages in standard manuscript form.
The presentation must involve every member of your team, and must be presented in the session during Finals Week.

This course requires a long-term investigative project. This project will require the formation of teams. As a team you will be asked to
defend a claim about a relevant political concept or phenomenon, and to connect
each of the following cultural artifacts to a concept or set of related concepts addressed in this course:

This project must include an explanatory essay and a presentation, which you will turn in as a team. The explanatory essay must conform either to MLA format or the Chicago Manual of Style, and be of sufficient length to incorporate each of the examples listed above. Depending on the size of your team, the minimum page length shall vary as follows:
· For a single author, the minimum length shall be 12 full pages in standard manuscript form.

Adolescence is a critical life stage for every human being, it is when we start to find our self, what we really like and who we are; also the stage when we are most concern of what people think of us. If you grow old with that set of mind that people are always watching and judging you then you are never going to truly become your own self. You need to grow of that fear and realized that everyone, even the popular kids that seems to have everything handled, are going through the same.
When I was a teenager my mom would spoil me and give me everything I asked for. At that moment I would think she was the best but now that I’m older it has become time to realize that life is not as easy as it seems and you have to work hard for the things that you really want. Needless to say, I’m thankful for my mom and everything she has done for me, but I’ve learned that the day I got my own kids I will make them work for what they want since day one; this way they will learn to appreciate things more.

An understanding of the issue should be developed by reading the articles uncovered during research for the assignment. Be sure to properly cite within the text (according to MLA style) any information that you obtained from one of your sources. Citations must be provided, even for paraphrased information . Present your perspective on the political issue. Think critically about the topic discussed in the articles and clearly express your thoughts about it in writing. Consider eight standards for critical thinking (Paul and Elder, 2103): clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, and fairness. Ask questions, such as How can I validate the accuracy of my statement?
