The key to long-term cockroach control is eliminating their food, water, and shelter sources. Cockroaches can travel through small cracks and crevices to spread from areas with steady food sources like kitchens. The most effective control methods are preventing infestations by sealing entry points and removing food/water sources, and using boric acid or diatomaceous earth in cracks if an infestation occurs.
Big Data is no longer considered a hype according to research firm Gartner, but it is an emerging trend that is here to stay. While Hadoop is commonly associated with Big Data, Big Data encompasses more than just Hadoop. Big Data requires not only technical changes but also cultural changes in how organizations approach data. Example applications of Big Data were presented, including a cloud-based electronic traceability system for semiconductor manufacturing and a research project aiming to profitably share vehicle diagnostic data across automotive partners while protecting private data. In conclusion, while Big Data applications are still developing, the concepts of collecting all available data now with the goal of analyzing it later have taken hold as storage and processing capabilities increase.
The whitepaper discusses a software-based approach to increase the learning aptitude of R&D organizations by helping engineers more effectively manage and build relationships between historical and current data, information, and knowledge. It describes importing tools that allow automated loading of structured and unstructured engineering data from sources like Excel files, documents, and databases into a centralized knowledge repository. This centralized information sharing is expected to increase engineering team efficiency by 20% and intellectual property reuse by 25% by streamlining access to past learnings and innovation activities.

High-Tech R&D -- Drowning in data but starving for informationDirk Ortloff
This is a slideset of a webinar held by Dr. Dirk Ortloff from Process Relations. The webinar elaborated on the challenges and solutions addressing the problem of effectively managing the growing amounts of digital process development data. He introduced approaches that address the “heap” challenge. It has been explained how new software tools and methodologies can be leveraged to convert raw data from diverse source into usable information and especially how to recreate the context the data is generated in.
The metrology capabilities of today’s high-tech R&D generate an increasing amount of digital data. Subsequently process engineers are flooded with this - partly structured but mostly unstructured - data. To organize, manage and evaluate this data requires a major effort. Engineers spent a significant portion (20% – 35%) of their time just administering this data rather than evaluating it.
Using the tools and methodologies introduced in this webinar results in structured and context aware information which can reduce the amount of repeated experiments and speed up developments.

HCL Notes und Domino Lizenzkostenreduzierung in der Welt von DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-und-domino-lizenzkostenreduzierung-in-der-welt-von-dlau/
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
