XML for Humans: Non-geek Discussion of a Geek-chic TopicPublishing Smarter
This session, presented at the Editors Conference in Toronto, on June 8, 2014, introduces you to the basics of XML, explaining what it is, how it is used, and why it benefits people who write and edit.
While THEY may love to work with code, the goal was to put as much of this into plain language for US as possible. I think it succeeded.
Participants could learn how clear and concise content can be created (and managed) in an XML workflow. At the end of the session they had enough knowledge to speak about XML with confidence.
During the session detailed slides were presented and discussed. A packed room attended and participated (the session featured a lot of great questions and answers) over the span of an hour.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Editor's Notes
Success Formula – what we must do to fulfill our enterprise promise.
Circles: A place of belonging After seven years in this community, there is no greater truth that I have found than that: The XL Members who got the most value found a group they loved being with and that was relevant to their lives. Regardless of what else was delivered to them, these two things were worth the entire value of membership. The XL Members who got the least value could not find a group they loved being with and that was relevant to their lives. No matter how much extra value we tried to deliver, without these two things there could never be enough. . Every XL Circle carries the DNA of XL, which is the XL Environment – the playground we play in. That means that EVERY time we meet we have a structure which is: FUN INSPIRING ACTION FOCUSED Every time we meet as a cell within the whole, we add value to XL and XL adds value to us. We leverage XL, and XL leverages us. We achieve wealth, and XL achieves World Wide Wealth. Super simple show up, step up and give back: The most critical factor of any Nation is its culture and conventions. The most important piece to XL Nation is the personal experience of belonging that each citizen has: The circles we belong to and the power of each circle to include and inspire through truth, trust and trade. A simple truth about showing up: We will keep showing up when we have a circle of people we care about and relate to. No matter what ‘stuff’ we consume, if we have these two things we will have enough and will be happy and keep showing up. We stop showing up when we have a circle of people we don’t care about and don’t relate to. No matter what ‘stuff’ is offered, it will never be enough and we will simply stop showing up – and blame it on not enough stuff. So our starting point is not what value we give and how we give it, but what circles citizens can step into, to ensure it is a circle of people they care about and can relate to. There lies the starting point of XL Nation, where it is turned on its head. Rather than members joining top down, where they pay to join and then often do not find a circle that fits them (XL1.0), the only way for citizens to join is for a circle to invite them in (XL2.0). XL Circles have a specific structure that we have laid out (but that is open to change via the Senate), and can be local or virtual. Circles are based one of five ‘P’s: Place Profession Profile Passion Purpose
