Welcome to the Wilkinsburg Youth Project Summer Program!
• Our mission: Wilkinsburg Youth Project is a youth employment
program that seeks to foster skills that will aid youth in advancing
toward positive life outcomes, by providing meaningful and
sustainable community development projects, generated and
maintained by the youth. We seek to harness the energy and
creativity of youth to promote positive, culturally relevant change in
their community.
• WYP seeks to challenge pervasive negative perceptions of young
people, especially young people of color in communities of color. WYP
youth are deliberately out ON the street, as a visible representation of
the ability of youth to do GOOD for this communities.

•Duquesne Youth Employment Program (summer of 2009 & 2010,

• Wilkinsburg Youth Project (summer 2014, school year 14/15, summer
15, school year 15/16, summer 16, school year 16/17, summer 17
and school year 17/18, summer and school year, 18/19)
• Braddock Youth Project (2007-Present)
When do you Work?
• Everyone but Mentoring Team is here from 9:30 am to 4 pm, Monday
Tuesday Thursday and Friday.
• Mentoring Team is here from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm same days.
• Lunch is from 12:00-1:00. Lunch is unpaid time off.
• You are not here on Wednesdays.
• You will be completing two days of training. They’re scheduled for
today, June 18, and Thursday, June 20. Our first normal day of
programming is June 24. Our last day is August 2rd.
What About the Money?
• Pay is $7.25 an hour. Your first paycheck is July 10th, and then every
two weeks after that. In a normal week, you work a maximum of 22
hours.
• $7.25/hour x 22 hours/week= $159.50 BEFORE TAXES
• You can earn a maximum $100 bonus for the summer. This will be
spread out through 3 paychecks ($50, $25, $25)
• Pay dates are on Wednesdays. If you can’t come get your check
between 1 and 4 p.m., then you can get it the following work day
(Thursday). The final two paychecks come after the program has
ended. You can opt to have them mailed or to pick them up.
