2. What is an IMRaD report?
“IMRaD” format refers to a paper that is structured by four main

8. Introduction
Write in present tense. Explain why you are doing the study.
Introduce any key background information including theories, or
other studies that are important to your topic.
9. Think of the Introduction as following a funnel shape:
What is the larger, real-world context of your work?
Then narrow down: what is the specific concept or theory, or, if
original work, the specific problem or gap that you are
addressing?
Narrow down some more: what is the specific purpose, aim or
goal of your work?
10. Your Aims is usually the last paragraph of the introduction. State
clearly and simply the overall goal of your study. Then provide
the specific questions and hypotheses that you will test.
11. The study was conducted on two different species of frogs, the
leopard frog (Rana pipiens) and the Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana),
to see if the effects observed were species-specific or more general
in nature.
