By the numbers:
Approximately 56.6 Million as of July 1, 2015. (about 18% of the U.S. population & constantly
growing.) (U.S. Census Bureau)
65% are of Mexican background, 9% Puerto Rican, 3.5% Cuban. The rest are grouped as ‘other’
including the Caribbean people, South Americans, and Central Americans (Pew Research Center).
Of the 15+ million of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. approximately 10 million are Hispanic
immigrants of which 7 million are of Mexican nationality (Pew Research Center).
More than half of the Latino/Hispanic American population resides in these three states: California,
Texas, and Florida.
“California had the largest Hispanic population of any state (15.2 million) in 2015. Texas had the largest
numeric increase within the Hispanic population since July 1, 2014. New Mexico had the highest
percentage of Hispanics at 48.0 percent” (U.S. Census Bureau).
Stewart County in southwest Georgia experienced the most growth in the Hispanic population since
2000, growing 1,754% over 13 years (Pew Research Center).

What is “Latino?” A Latino is someone from Latin America.
What is “Hispanic?” A Hispanic is an “Hispano parlante” which translates into a Spanish-speaking
individual.
Why both terms? Both terms are used interchangeably in order to try to include as many Latin Ethnic
groups as possible.
Which one is used over the other depends on different parts of the country. Usually, Latino is
predominantly used as a term in the East Coast and Hispanic is used in the West Coast, even though
either term is being applied interchangeably nowadays.
Why does the government prefers “Latino” over “Hispanic?” It simply correlates to the federal
government being on the East Coast and using the term “Latino.”

Introduction
According to the 2010 US census, the Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) community is made up of about 18.2 million people or 3.6% of the population of the U. S. there are five major Asian populations in the US: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino and Southeast Asian. The AAPIs have origins in at least 29 Asian countries and 20 Pacific Islander countries. There are as many languages, cultures and religions found in this population. More than 100 different languages spoken and just as many cultures and religions found in this population. The largest group of Asians is Chinese followed by Filipinos. Many Asians came to the U. S. seeking both a better life and employment.
Although Asian groups are very diverse in terms of culture, language, etiquette and rules for interaction, a common thread of Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist thought links their health care beliefs and practices and are derived from Chinese tradition. When planning for or providing care to the Pacific Islanders, the APN should utilize a Chinese frame of reference because less is known about this group.
The term Native American refers to the indigenous people of North, South, and Central American and includes American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) (Kosoko-Laski et al, 2009). About 5.2 million people identify as being American Indian or Alaska natives. This American Indian population is confined to 26 states in the US with most in the western part of the country. The largest AI populations by tribes are Cherokee, Navajo, Choctaw, Mexican American Indian, Chippewa, Sioux, Apache, Blackfeet, Cree, and Iroquois. The largest AN population are Yup’ik, Inupiat, Tlingit-Haida, Alaskan Athabascan, and Aleut and Tsimshian.
This population is highly diverse with 573 federally recognized tribes and several others not federally recognized. Federally recognized tribes are provided health and education assistance from the Indian Health Service, US Department of Health and Human Services. Depending on their geographical location, cultural practices, and language, life situations differ considerably.

In this submission I am trying to use three different evidence to illustrate the common myth of Latin American.
For this submission I concentrated most of my efforts on explain why the three evidences has refute the myth.
What I struggled with most was trying to make differentiate explanation with my first evidence and the second evidence. If I was given more time, I would work on reading the class readings earlier to give myself more time to think and come up with more ideas or evidences for my myth.

Myths of Latino Immigration
There are several misconceptions used to define Latino in America. One of the common myth about Latino is that it is homogenous, naturally existing, and an easily identifiable group of people with distinct racial identity. This myth is wrong because Latino is not a homogenous group; they do not naturally exist, nor does it have racial features for easy identity. Latino is the group that is initially from areas with different ancestries. Latino population is consisting of many types, say, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban or Dominican, and they are not easily identified. The paper will be discussed the three shreds of evidence that shows that the myth of homogeneity, identification, and existence of Latino are wrong.

One of the typical stereotype and mentality regarding the Latinos in America is that they have a shared ethnic background. However, the reality is that Latino comprises of several sub-groups which are unique linguistically (Holloway, 2008, p.5). Even though nearly 60% of Latino are Spanish speakers, each subgroup has a way of speaking just as it is the case with the English.
Furthermore, the identity of Latino differs with the region they inhabit. In the United States, Latino is defined in terms of their nationalities or the countries that they originated. For example, in the case of Midwest and Southwest, Latinos are people who originally came from Mexico. In the eastern part of America, particularly New York and Boston regions, Latino is people who are considered to have limitations of communications with the Dominicans and Puerta Ricans (Meier & Melton, 2012, p.737). In this case, Latinos are defined by their inability to communicate with o people other in the region. In the case of Miami, Cubans, and Central America, Latinos are groups for interpreting Latin America. They are people who live in Latin America.

Welcome to Mexican American History I (HIST 2327). This packet contains introductory reading and will assist
you with this week’s activities. In this first reading assignment students will explore information about identity,
the Mexican American Studies Program, the historian’s purpose, and the course learning objectives.
Identity
While this course is titled Mexican American History, the topics explored in this course will extend beyond the
Mexican-American experience of residents in the United States southwest. We will study the caste system in
New Spain, otherwise known as colonial Mexico. As we progress through the course students will develop an
understanding of ethnic distinctions, how different groups self-identify, and the historical aspects of institutions
governing these diverse groups. This class will explore the experiences of Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Philippinos; we
will investigate United States’ policies in Latin America. This course is not just a study of the Mexican-American
experience along the contemporary U.S.-Mexico border because doing so would undermine the importance of
recognizing similarities of life experiences among the broader Hispanic/Latino population. Based on the 2010
Census, one in four children in the United States is Hispanic. While the census data does reduce identity more
finely to account for distinction of native country, most day-to-day experiences with language, learning,
interactions with law enforcement, representation, etc. are experiences shared by all Latino/as, regardless of
national origin. The following passage, written by Puerto-Rican born Angel Oquendo, illustrates the importance
of broadening the scope of our course study:
Categorizing on the basis of physical features, of course is an
accepted practice in the United States. In fact, this society
has primarily used physiognomy to create the “Hispanic”
category. Yet what really unites Latino/as is their unique
history of oppression. Unlike other immigrant groups, the
largest Latino/as groups—Mexicans and Puerto Ricans—did
not come into the United States via Ellis Island; they entered
through the brutal process of U.S. imperial expansion. They
were militarily attacked, invaded, colonized, and annexed.
This common experience has caused them to form a unified
community, which now includes other people of Latin
American ancestry.1
In truth, most people who self-identify as Latino/a in the United States have entered the country due to U.S.
imperial activity in their native country, as we will see in later in the course. Those who did not enter the United
States, but instead witnessed the United States passing over into their country and annexing them have also

Welcome to Mexican American History I (HIST 2327). This packet contains introductory reading and will assist
you with this week’s activities. In this first reading assignment students will explore information about identity,
the Mexican American Studies Program, the historian’s purpose, and the course learning objectives.
Identity
While this course is titled Mexican American History, the topics explored in this course will extend beyond the
Mexican-American experience of residents in the United States southwest. We will study the caste system in
New Spain, otherwise known as colonial Mexico. As we progress through the course students will develop an
understanding of ethnic distinctions, how different groups self-identify, and the historical aspects of institutions
governing these diverse groups. This class will explore the experiences of Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Philippinos; we
will investigate United States’ policies in Latin America. This course is not just a study of the Mexican-American
experience along the contemporary U.S.-Mexico border because doing so would undermine the importance of
recognizing similarities of life experiences among the broader Hispanic/Latino population. Based on the 2010
Census, one in four children in the United States is Hispanic. While the census data does reduce identity more
finely to account for distinction of native country, most day-to-day experiences with language, learning,
interactions with law enforcement, representation, etc. are experiences shared by all Latino/as, regardless of
national origin. The following passage, written by Puerto-Rican born Angel Oquendo, illustrates the importance
of broadening the scope of our course study:
Categorizing on the basis of physical features, of course is an
accepted practice in the United States. In fact, this society
has primarily used physiognomy to create the “Hispanic”
category. Yet what really unites Latino/as is their unique
history of oppression. Unlike other immigrant groups, the
largest Latino/as groups—Mexicans and Puerto Ricans—did
not come into the United States via Ellis Island; they entered
through the brutal process of U.S. imperial expansion. They
were militarily attacked, invaded, colonized, and annexed.
This common experience has caused them to form a unified
community, which now includes other people of Latin
American ancestry.1
In truth, most people who self-identify as Latino/a in the United States have entered the country due to U.S.
imperial activity in their native country, as we will see in later in the course. Those who did not enter the United
States, but instead witnessed the United States passing over into their country and annexing them have also

As I review your reports, it appears that each of these cases has strengths and weaknesses that we should evaluate before we determine whether to file charges in the U.S. District Court, the Sedgwick County District Court for the State of Kansas, or the Wichita Municipal Court. I will summarize those strengths and weaknesses here to make sure I am reading your reports correctly. I need you to give me advice on where you think these charges should be brought.
Jones has been working for you as a confidential informant because you have evidence against him for a February 6, 2005 third possession of cocaine after convictions in 1993 and 1994. He appears to have followed the terms of his deal with you to introduce our undercover agents to his dealer. We have promised not to prosecute for any drug offenses he may commit in the presence of our undercover agent while playing the role of our informant. His assistance has enabled us to get sufficient evidence on Smith and Thompson to obtain convictions. This is done to keep us preoccupied in conflict so we ignore what is being done in front of our faces, which is politicians/media/wealthy elites are controlling the government/financial system/media to mold the public's views and what they buy. By them focusing on these secondary issues and differences, we are missing the root problem: money in politics. These legal bribes guarantee that we are not represented in legislation unless enough people oppose the current law.
