Impact Of The Construction Industry On The Uk Economy
Sector introduction:
Balfour Beatty Plc operates in the heavy construction sub sector of the FTSE 250. This sector is
particularly interesting given the effect recession has had on this sector and the ongoing
developments in the industry. The construction sector in the UK is unique as the output in this
sector fell faster than the whole economy in 2008. It has slipped into recession 3 times over the
past 5 years (gov.uk, 2013). Overall the recession has had a dramatic effect in the construction
contracting industry. In recent years the sector has been plagued with low customer confidence,
high unemployment and limited availability of finance. However now that the UK economy is
recovering so is the construction sector, in August 2014 the sector grew at the fastest pace for seven
months since the recession (bbc.co.uk 2014).
Government Initiatives:
Various recent measures have been undertaken by the government which are contributing to the
success of the sector. In 2011 a Localism act was introduced simplifying the planning system which
in turn incentivized growth. A growth and infrastructureact was also implemented which delivered a
further boost to the industry. The government also plans to increase its capital spending plans by
ВЈ3 billion per annum from 2015 16, meaning an additional investment of ВЈ18 billion by 2020
(gov.uk 2013). These schemes have proven successful since their implementation, planning
application approval rates are at a ten year high. Another

Events Industry s Impact on Regional Development
After researching the impacts events have on regional development I have come to agree with the
statement The events industry is an effective and appropriate vehicle for facilitation of regional
development . The significance of this thesis is to critically discuss and demonstrate an
understanding of the relationship between the events industry and regional development while also
providing an understanding of the history of events and the increasing significance of the event
industry in contemporary society. Real life examples from around the world are used to recognize
and justify the event industry as part of the tourismsector and explore specific implications to event
management. Various sectors of the events industry are identified... Show more content on

Criteria states Hallmark (high profile) events must enhance awareness and appeal as well as profit
the destination and have international or national audiences that provide significant economic and
social benefits. Another high profile event in Australia is the Rip Curl Pro surfing event, which
attracts international and national audiences from across the world. Jones (2005) stated that
significant economic benefits including additional regional demand and exposure were achieved
through high profile events such as the Rip Curl Pro. High profile events attract high number of
visitors and produce various economic benefits. As Philippa (2011) announced, The Sydney Royal
Show attracts over 900,000 visitors each year and has an economic impact of over $500 million to
NSW in terms of employment, tourism, agricultural development, infrastructure and transport .
Another source also confirmed their findings indicated that high profile events socially embedded
configuration in local life that facilitates the regional development (Ziakas Costa, 2011). High
profile events create a multicultural environment that financial benefits the region, Philippa (2011)
also claims $24.5 million was the estimated attribute to interstate and international visitation from
countries such as China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan . High profile events increase permanent

Social Aspects Of Autism
Autism is mostly defined by and impairment in speech/communication. It is made of other other
things, but it mostly is that. It comes in a scale, or spectrum, called the autism spectrum and
consists of high functioning and low functioning, with more complications. Most of the statements
are common generalizations, and don t mean that autismisn t autism without these qualities.
The most important part is how it affects social aspects. Often, talk with short sentences and
phrases instead of full sentences, or can t even talk at all (1/3 people), no matter how smart they are
(remember, high functioning and low functioning)! They don t know eye contact (In my
experience, it led to arguments), and are often repetitive in their speech.

Carlos Hathcock Accomplishments
Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock was the most accurate Vietnam War sniper.

sneaky. During the Vietnam War he was never caught before, during, or after a mission. Due to
his experience with hunting animals for his family lead him to be able to sneak, since he was a
young boy. Hathcock was extremely patient. Carlos could wait for hours or days just to take
someone down, for example he crawled for 4 days to get 1 kill. Carlos Hathcock was noble and
helpful. Carlos saved 7 Marine Corps troops out of a flaming AMTRAC, (truck) before saving

A woman, Viet Cong sniper, platoon commander, and interrogator. Known as Apache because of
her brutal torturing methods of US Marines and South Vietnamese Army (SVA) troops. She was
killed by Carlos Hathcock. This was a major morale victory as Apache was terrorizing the troops
around Hill 55 in Vietnam.
Also, one of Hathcock most famous accomplishments was shooting an enemy sniper through the
enemy s own rifle scope, hitting him in the eye and killing him, Hathcock was stalking the
enemy sniper in the jungle near Hill 55. The sniper, known only as the Cobra, had already killed
several Marines and was believed to have been sent specifically to kill Hathcock. When Hathcock
saw a flash of light (light reflecting off the enemy sniper s scope) in the bushes, he fired at it,
shooting through the enemy s scope and killing the sniper. Hathcock concluded that the only true
way he could have put the bullet straight down the enemy s scope, through his eye, would have
been if both snipers were aiming on each other at the same time, which gave him only a few
seconds to react, and Hathcock fired

The Black Hole, A Region Of Spacetime
The black hole, a region of spacetime thats gravity is so strong that can prevent anything from
escaping, even light. Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not empty holes in space, but
rather a massive amount of matter packed into a small area. The graphic to the right shows the
simulated view of a black holein front of a Large Magellanic Cloud. The theory of these black
holes was conceived in Einstein s theory of general relativity. It predicts that a plentiful compact
mass will contort spacetime and create a black hole. The area where the nothing can escape is
called the event horizon. It has no basic features, and it acts like a perfect black body, in the sense
that it reflects no light. Also, according to the to quantum field... Show more content on

The graphic to the left shows the supermassive black hole in the Milky Way, Sagittarius A*.
Black holes have quite the history, and the idea of them has been around for longer than you may
think. An object thats gravitational fields are too strong for anything, even light, to escape was
first thought of in the 18th century. John Michell first wrote about a massive body with these
features in a letter to Henry Cavendish of the Royal Society in 1783. The letter says:
In the year 1796, French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace had the same thoughts in the first
and second editions of his book Exposition du systГЁme du Monde. What he had called dark stars
were ignored in the 19th century, because the idea that light was affected by gravity was
unfathomable.
In 1915, the great German mathematician, Albert Einstein, developed his own theory of general
relativity. This showed that gravity does in fact influence light s motion. Within a few months of
releasing his theory, Karl Schwarzschild had found the solution to Einstein s equations. The
solution describes the gravitational field of a point mass and of a spherical mass. A couple months
after Schwarzschild s discoveries, Johannes Droste had by himself given the same solution, but had
written more extensively on its properties. In the year of 1931, the Indian astrophysicist
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar used special relativity to calculate that a non rotating body of
electron degenerate matter above the

Arab And Norman Dominations
When talking about the historical periods of Sicily, especially the period of Arab and Norman
domination, we are not talking about Arabs on one side and Normans on the other because they are
usually tied together and represented as one unique period, the Arab Norman. When the Normans
conquered Sicily during the 11th century, some elements of the Arab world were not removed, but
assimilated and improved. In this respect, we can talk of an historical continuity between Arab and
Norman dominations in Sicily. Institutionally, the Normans combined the administrative
organisation of the Byzantines, Arabs, and Lombards with their own conceptions of feudal law and
order to forge a unique government. Under this state, there was great religious freedom,

Labour and Industrial Relations
LABOUR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS MISCONDUCT INTRODUCTION Misconduct
could be a serious offence titled to be an unacceptable behavior by an employee or professional
person. Misconduct can lead either to be a major or minor offence depending on the offence
made by the person. In a misconduct case, the basic ruling is that the employer must prove
beyond any doubt that the employee is guilty of the offence. Taking this into view it must be
understood that the employee does not need to prove his innocence but the employer need to
prove his guilt. Decision making is the back bone behind any business activity. Without
decisions, nothing moves and business leaders tasked with making them need the right
information to ensure they are taking the right type of action. SULNAYAH MOHD ISA V.

wrongdoing or a deliberate violation of a rule or standard of behaviour. In the case of Sulnayah

The Tempest was Shakespeare s last play that was written shortly after England colonized Virginia
in 1609. Throughout the play, there are many different references to imperialism and colonialism
within the characters. The Tempest analyzes the imperialistic relationships between England and
America but applies it to personal human interaction between the central characters. The island
gives newcomers a sense of endless possibilities like claiming the land for themselves because of
the belief in the Great Chain of Being and the seventeenth century being an age of exploration.

Caliban, Prospero s slave and the first inhabitant on the island professes that he used to be his
own king (l.ii.344 345). Gonzalo also has a moment where he imagines his own utopian society
on the island (11.i.148 156). Stephano has his own vision of what he wants too, Monster, I will
kill this man. His daughter and I will be King and Queen.. And Trinculo and thyself shall be my
viceroys (iii.ii.101 103). Prospero, the main character, has a similar mindset to a colonist
because although he ended up on the island accidentally, he still acts as superior to the
inhabitants and he sees the island as something he can make profit from. Prospero probably
wouldn t fit the title of an imperialist invader because he came to the island as a fugitive and did
not necessarily start a war with the inhabitants. Nonetheless he wants to restore his dukedom by
manipulating people around him. He does this to his daughter Miranda by keeping her naive
and innocent. He also conjures up Ferdinand, who becomes Miranda s love interest, and then
proceeds to enslave him also. Prospero uses Ariel to carry out most of his plans by convincing
Ariel he will soon be free if he keeps obeying Prospero with willingness and enthusiasm. Prospero
uses mostly guilt and fear to keep his slaves along side with him. He threatens Caliban in Act 1

Stress Scenarios
If I were to imagine a friend just lost his job, which helped him cover tuition costs, then I would
assume he would go through stress and I could describe his potential actions to this job loss. This
friend would experience stress, which is the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral
responses to events seen as threatening or challenging. Stressis often the result when basic drives
are unmet which is what the friend is experiencing. My friend would have several symptoms of
stress can include physical fatigue, more than usual mood swings, depression, concentration
problems, memory problems, recurring illness, smoking/drinking more than usual, anger,
irritability, and over/under eating. I am worried for my friend because stress related... Show more

He also would experience pressure, which is urgent demands or expectations and experience
frustration due to external loss. Most stressors come from distress, which occurs when people
experience unpleasant stressors, for example my friend losing his job is a stressor. Since my
friend lost his job he will go through a stress response which is a physiological reaction that
occurs in response to a perceived harmful event, attack, or threat to survival. Potential reactions
my friend might have to his job loss would be using coping strategies. Coping strategies are
actions that people can take to master, tolerate, reduce, or minimize the effects of stressors. Also,
coping Strategies can include both behavioral strategies and psychological strategies. It is highly
likely that my friend will use a coping strategy which is when people try to eliminate or change
the stressor itself. Logically my friend may use a problem focused coping strategy which is when
people try to eliminate the source of a stress or reduce its impact through their own actions. In
addition to that another method of coping he could possibly use is called emotion focused coping, it
is a strategy that involves changing the way a person feels or emotionally

Chemistry Coursework
How Concentration Affects a Reaction
Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to find out how concentration affects the rate of reaction between
Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium
Thiosulphate.
Introduction:
This experiment will be carried out by drawing a cross on a piece of paper and mixing
hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate together to see if the cross disappears. The concentration
of hydrochloric acid would change every reaction to show that concentration effects a reaction. The
time in which the cross took to disappear would be recorded as well as the temperature at the start
and end of the reaction, the concentration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sunlight could affect the speed therefore the experiment will take place in the shade, so that
temperature shouldn t change the reaction speed, we will check by using a thermometer. Also the
same amount of hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate will be mixed each time so that the
concentration changes will affect the same amount of hydrochloric acid and sodium
thiosulphate. The concentration of the hydrochloric acid will be changing each time to test if it
speeds up a reaction. The speed for the light intensity to drop by 10% will be measured after
each attempt so that the affects of concentration changes can be recorded. Each concentration will
be tested three times and an average will be worked out, to see if there were any anomalies
within the experiment. If one result is out of line with the others then that will be easily identified
using graphs and tables. The concentration has been picked so that there is a range from 0.25M to
2M, at intervals of 0.5M, 1M, 1.25M and 1.5M.
Prediction:
I predict that the higher the concentration the faster the reaction will take place meaning the light
intensity will drop by 10%. This is because the more concentrated the hydrochloric acid is the more
particles there are to collide, therefore more effective collisions to break old bonds and make new
bonds. 0.25M concentration would be the slowest reaction and 2M would be the

Ordain Women In The Catholic Church
The Catholic Church will most likely never ordain women to priesthood and episcopacy, Pope
Francis said aboard the papal flight after visiting the Lutheran Church of Sweden.
On Nov. 1, Pope Francis was asked if the Catholic Church would one day ordain women as priests
and bishops. The question comes after the pontiff was hosted by the Lutheran Church of Sweden, a
congregation led by Switzerland s first woman primate Archbishop Antje Jackelen of Uppsala,
Catholic News Service relays.
According to Pope Francis, the question had already been answered by St. John Paul II in 1994.
During that time, the latter taught that the Catholic Church will not ordain women because Jesus
chosen apostles were only men.
Really? Never? Pope Francis was asked.

The Application Of The Patent System
Intellectual Property Midterm
Question #2
The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has
the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in
order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate
profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate
their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent
licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company
legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive
patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt
companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually
creating new products.
Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in
high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has
not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued
are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling
patent trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors
from entering the market. Small companies are

The Ancient Greek Of Ancient Greece
The ancient Greeks highly valued the strength and power in a spoken word. Political, economic,
cultural, and social life of the Ancient Greeks can be seen in their plays. They thus relied on words
to communicating. Their desire to communicate and pass crucial information led to the creation of
numerous plays across the region. The ancient Greek plays were both entertaining and educative
thus reflecting on the kind of life that this person lived (Hogan 11). Their settings can suggest a lot
about the circumstances and conditions under which this play was performed. The dramatic

The effects of violence were so disastrous and they were punished by god. The play is a
significant description of the lifestyle in Greek at that particular time. God punishing those who
do not obey him was a common belief among the ancient Greeks. The fact that he was a king
implied that he had to set a good example by leading the people so that they can fear gods. The
Antigone, is an example of an ancient play where a lot of elements that can be seen on stage can
be used to interpret and analyze the Greek culture. Like in other Greek plays, masks were used in
the Antigone to convey emotions and capture themes in the play. An example is that masks worn
by different people signaled political power. The voice of the actor was greatly amplified by the
shape of the masks. The audiences were able to hear the actors when they were in masks.
Moreover, the types of clothing in both The Bacchae and The Antigone were a representation of
the Greek culture. Stage in most ancient Greek plays was composed of four main areas. The first

Throughout the history of the United States, illegal immigrants have come from all over the
world to find work and a better way of life. It is estimated that right now there are about seven
million illegal aliens living in America. About 69% of these illegal immigrants are Mexican and
over 283,000 of them live in Arizona1. In this paper, we presuppose that the illegal aliens we refer
to are Mexican. This is because the aliens living in the geographic area around the day labor center
we examine are over 99%

Background of Day Labor
3
These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time:
day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs,
but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined
as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal
temp agencies ( Work, 307).
Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a
temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization
( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the
work force without being required to have legal immigration status.
There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists
mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered
informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired
for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal
day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in
specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers

The Testament Of The Bible
The Bible simply says in Isaiah 55:9, For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My
ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. God does work His wonders
in ways that are beyond finding out! The congregation at Calvary has heard repeatedly about the
classic book called Pilgrims Progress. In this timeless book there is a man named Mr. Worldly
Wise. It doesn t take long for a Christian to realize that he shouldn t have listened to this man. Mr.
Worldly Wise does not have the mind of God. There would appear to be great wisdom coming
from his mouth, but it s not from God. Something that will have to be accepted by faith, no
matter how good the intentions, if the direction that a person is going is not governed by God s
wisdom, that journey, that path, will end in hopelessness. The Church, His blood bought
Church, has the special revelation called the New Testament. One would think, with all the
technology, modern science and medicine, that the Church would evolve to a place in society
where the message of reaching the world would be different than it was when the Church began.
But lest we forget the declaration of Isaiah, His ways are not our ways. The giant gulf that
separates God and man is impassable. There is no way to get from here to there apart from the
wisdom of God. His wisdom is completely separate from worldly wisdom. As Paul makes clear in 1
Corinthians 1:18 25, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are

this, Smith used a four point scale in order to quantify the painfulness by location, along with a

Portugal s Journey to Democracy Essay example
Portugal s journey to democracy started in 1910 by first attempt of the Portuguese people to
establish the country as a democracy. Before 5 October 1910, Portugal was ruled by the principles
of constitutional monarchy. However, a putsch lead by the Portuguese Republican Party established
the First Republic by abolishing the constitutional monarchy regime. The constitutionthat was
adopted inaugurated parliamentary regime with a president as a head of state. Unfortunately, the
republican regime lasted for only 16 years which were exceptionally unstable and disordered; 45
different cabinets were in power, of which four were dismissed by military coups.
A military dictatorship replaced the republican regime by pledging order and stability,... Show more

General Antonio de Spinole, the head of the Junao of National Salvation, was declared as the leader
of the new regime. The Junta and the MFA publicly declared that they had no intentions to
revolutionise the country, rather they wanted to create democratic political institutions and allow a
constituent assembly to be elected by a popular vote.
However, there was a significant number of revolutionaries that were advocates of the extreme left
who were dedicated to pursue a Marxist revolution in the country. In 1974 the Communist Party of
Portugal managed to replace both, the president and prime minister with a militant Communist
prime minister and left wing president. The Council of the Revolution was created on 11 March
1975, which essentially was a body of 20 Communist members of military personnel that intended to
govern the country. The Council began a socialist revolution; land reform was introduced, banks
were nationalized together with insurance companies and main industrial infrastructures.
Nevertheless, the elections for the Constituent Assembly on 25 April 1975 took place anyway and
it was the democratic parties that won. In effect, the Communists ignored the results of the election
and refused to give in. In September they surrounded the Constituent Assembly and demanded its
dismissal. Later on 25 November 1975 the Communists started another putsch

Why Did Kitty Genovese s Neighbors Fail For Take Action...
On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several
neighbors were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the
neighbors part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take
action quickly?
The psychologists John Darley and Bibb LatanГ© (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident
and sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and
LatanГ© hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and
vice versa. The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the
time it took for the participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were
more confederates, each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of
the bystander effect.
The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the
less of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert,
Sommers, 2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines
whether humans will still help in a situation when there are other people available. Bystanders can
deal with situations ranging from the mundane to the dire, but what matters is the number of those
who take action.
Inspired by the Genovese case, my partner and I wanted to see if the Tufts community, which

Escherichia Coli
Introduction:
Esherichia coli also known as E. coli is a bacterium that lives in your gut. (1). it was founded by
Theodore von Esherich in 1888. There are many people that can get the bacteria. Also there are
thousands of strands of E.coli. Six E. coli O157 outbreaks were identified during 2007. Four of
the outbreaks involved foodborne transmission. (Eshericha Coli). Six Minnesota cases and one
Wisconsin case with the same or closely related PFGE subtype of E. coli O157:H7, and an
additional Minnesota case of Shiga toxin producing E. coli that was not culture confirmed, attended
the Minnesota State Fair in August. All but one of the cases showed cattle or visited the cattle...

In ground beef you can get E. coli because they slaughter the cow and then the E. coli from there
intestine gets on the ground meat and they mix the meat and then that gives it a higher risk of
spreading it.(Staff Mayo Clinic) In unpasteurized milk it comes from the udder of the cow and
then it gets into the milk. (Staff Mayo Clinic) In fresh food it comes from the farms that can
contaminate the farm. The most vulnerable to this is lettuce and spinach. (Staff Mayo Clinic) In
contaminated water there can be E. coli because it untreated and there is feces in it.(Staff Mayo
Clinic) Also personal contact which means that adults can give it to their kids because they do
not wash their hands after using the bathroom.(Staff Mayo Clinic) Also it passed in restaurants
because cooks or people working back their do not wash their hands. E. coli causes the hemolytic
urine syndrome, which is a blood and kidney disease in children. It can also cause Uninary tract
infections and bladder infections or it can lead to sepsis. There is another cause Thrombotic
thrombocytopenic Purpura. This is a rare blood disease. It causes clots to form in small blood
vessels throughout the body. This usually causes through the infectious parts of E. coli.
Symptoms:
The signs or symptoms of E. coli O157:H7. The symptoms begin like three or four days after you

Controversial PSA test
In 1994, prostate specific antigen (PSA) was officially approved for PCa screening by the FDA,
and 4.0 ng/ml was set as the upper limit of normal range. Following its prevalent use, PSA became
the most frequent method of detecting PCa and has resulted in a considerable stage migration.
However, considerable controversy remains about PSA screening, due to questions regarding
survival benefit, cost effectiveness, and clinical factors such as the optimal age and total PSA at
which to recommend biopsy
[5], also increase in the levels of PSA is not as specific as it is sensitive for diagnosis. A rise in the
PSA level can reflect the presence of cancerous cells, but can also be related to nonmalignant

Prognostic biomarkers predict the natural course of the cancer to distinguish the tumor s outcome.
They also help determine whom to treat, how aggressively to treat, which candidates will likely
respond to a given drug, and the most effective dose. Predictive biomarkers evaluate the probable
benefit of a particular treatment. Pharmacodynamic biomarkers assess the imminent treatment
effects of a drug on a tumor and can possibly determine the proper dosage in the early stages of
clinical development of a new anticancer drug [11].
Identification of disease specific molecular biomarkers is a rational approach to addressing current
clinical challenges of whom to biopsy, whom to offer certain interventional therapies, in whom to
alter therapeutic strategies, and in whom to follow up treatment outcome [12, 13].
With recent advances in biotechnology, many potential blood biomarkers have been identified and
are currently under investigation. In this review, we will discuss and list some of the biomarkers
that have a substantial amount of supportive data to be beneficial biologically and clinically, and
other potential candidates are still under investigation.

Test For Sugars, Starches, Proteins, And Lipids
Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to test for sugars, starches, proteins, and lipids.
Background information:
Biological macromolecules are the large molecules necessary for life. There are four different types
of macromolecules which include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Each
macromolecule has a specific function like providing energy or simply insulation. Macromolecules
are made from monomers which come together through dehydration synthesis or hydrolysis to
create the polymer or macromolecule.
Carbohydrates are made from monosaccharides which are shaped like hexagons and come
together to make polysaccharides which provide quick energy, structural support for plants
(cellulose in cell walls) and are also found as chitin in the exoskeletons of arthropods. Lipids are
made from glycerol and three fatty acids and are found in two different forms unsaturated and
saturated. Lipids provide long term energy storage, insulate and cushion, and prevent water loss.
Proteins are made from amino acids which come together forming a protein with peptide bonds.
Proteins serve as hormones, muscle, parts of the immune system, and enzymes but if they are the
wrong shape, they can t do their job. Nucleic acids are made from nucleotides and serve as DNA
and RNA which store genetic info and transfer info to make new cells.
When conducting this experiment, certain safety precautions must be taken. Proper protective gear

High School Sports Head Injury
Statistics state that it s a 47 percentage of high school football players receiving a serious head
injury. The article High School Struggle to Tackle Safety on the Football Field by Kendrick
Calkins caught my attention. The article started out as an assignment but ended up being
something I was very interested in learning more about. Three questions popped in my head the
moment t I read this particular article; what happens to the boys who end up having a head injury?
Why does it happen? And how does the family feel?
What happens to the boys who have the head injury? In high school football you never want to give
up or quit, so many boys who obtained an injury like that continues to play. But in some cases a
lot of young boys are dying to this head injury, because instead of stopping and treating the injury
they continue to play. There are rarely any players who actually stop playing because of one head
injury. For example there was a player who obtained a head injury and did not stop playing and the
consequence for that was his young life. One statistic stated 15.8 percent of football players who
sustain a head injury to severe enough to cause loss consciousness return to play the same day.

Why you should highly consider motorcycle riding for a hobby
I m sure by now at some point in your life you have seen a motorcycle go by and have thought to
yourself what would that be like to drive. Instead of wasting time thinking about it you can do
something about it and even get your license without owning a motorcycle. You will not get the
same experience out of buying a video game console and games which can cost over 1000usd
depending on how many games you buy. 1000usd can easily buy yourself a second hand
motorcycle, and just think after all those video games are played what have you experienced other

great reasons to give it a try.
Many times people never get past the safety or fear aspect of trying motorcycle riding. A great
way to get past the fear is to take a training course You will learn to ride using our motorcycles on
a safe closed circuit course. Our motorcycles and scooters are small and lightweight, so you can
concentrate on learning the skills of safe riding (motorcycle training academy, N.D. sec. 1.6).
After you complete a training coarse maybe you are still worried about a crash or the other
drivers out there, even if you are no longer afraid yourself of driving a motorcycle. I believe any
responsible person who has been trained to drive a motorcycle safely need not worry. The
statistics although not perfect might make you reconsider In 2005, the motorcycle fatality rate
was 73 per 100,000 registered motorcycles which is a .00073% risk of fatality from driving a
motorcycle (motorcycle accident website, N.D. sec. 10.1). If that s not enough reason just think
you can reduce that .00073% chance of death by 42% 48% percent by not drinking or speeding Of

48 percent were speeding. 42 percent had blood alcohol concentrations of 0.08

Sales Comparison Approach
Sales Comparison Approach
This approach is the most common method of property valuation. It estimates the value of a
subject property by statistically analyzing the sale prices of similar properties and recently sold
properties in order to obtain an indication of the most probable value of the property. It is dependent
upon the existing of enough comparable sold information and the level of comparability. This
approach is applicable to all types of real property only if there are recent, adequate and reliable
transactions on the market. (Bureau of local government finance, 2006).

It is the third method of estimating the value of the subject property in sales comparison

Byronic hero, Don Juan. The poem has been viewed as nihilistic and immoral. Actually there is
plenty present in the first canto to show morality and hope for humanity. The poem should be

Byron pokes fun at the hypocritical nature of people. An overabundant curiosity in other s affairs is
certainly looked down upon yet it is rampant among people. Thus within in one sentence Byron
points this idea out; people say one thing yet do another. This problem is central to what Byron sees
as wrong with society, the basic hypocritical nature of people. There is truth to his thinking and by
directing the reader to notice this, he can be said to be wanting to change that. Change usually does
not occur until the fault is presented outright. Indeed, one form taken by the philosophic irony
underlying the first canto suggests that cant and hypocrisy may endanger the very continuity of
civilized tradition (Bostetter 22).
The narrator, using his particular talent in prying in people s affairs feels fit to speak of Juan s
upbringing. Instead of quarreling, had they been but both in,/ Their senses, they d have sent
young master forth/ To school, or had him soundly whipp d at home,/ To teach him manners for
the time to come (Byron 197 200). This presents a sort of paradox the reader may find it immoral
for the narrator to judge Juan s parents and yet without this view Juan s later episodes would have
less meaning behind them; for we would not know the reasons behind his behavior. Perhaps we
would find the narrator s opinion of Juan s parents biased. Therefore we are told more of their
immoral behavior. They lived an unhappy sort of life,/ Wishing each other,

Human susceptibility to snake venom is generally estimated from the LD50 for rodents. The
next factor in assessing the danger of a partiticular species of snake is the dose of venom that is
actually introduced into the tissues. Some types of snakes have an extremely efficient
mechanism of injection venom with a sing strike; others have poor success in doing so. The
amount of venom produced by snakes that is available for secretion with a bite also varies
between kinds of snakes, and between individuals (usually by size) of any one species (reptipage
1). Symptoms of venomous snakebites. The symptoms vary not only with the type of venom
injected, but also with the amount. A snake may release no venom at all, or it may release as
much as 75% of the total amount stored in its venom glands. Often when a snake bites in self
defense, it injects less venom than when it attacks its prey. The physical condition of the victim
and the location of the bite also affect the severity of the symptoms. A bite into a muscle is less
dangerous than a bite into a blood vessel, for example, because toxins in the blood are quickly
circulated through the body. General symptoms of snakebite include localized pain and swelling
soon after the bite occurs, followed by nausea, tingling or numbness, weakness, and shortness of
breath. If victims do not receive treatment within a few hours, they may suffer convulsions, fall into

My Experience At The University Of Oklahoma
According to the literal definition, hard work is a broad term that encompasses a vast amount of the
human population. I believe that the term is thrown around so often that it has almost become
meaningless. In my mind, hard work is throwing yourself into difficult situations and remaining
both dedicated and determined to conquer the task. Although the desired outcome is not always
reached, hard work remains an important value that allows us to show our full potential. I have
been constantly put in tough situations throughout my life and if it were not for my dedication and
hard work, I would not have made it to where I am today.
Being enrolled at the University of Oklahoma is a huge accomplishment. The journey began 14
years ago when I enrolled in kindergarten at Jenks East Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As I grew
older, classwork gradually became harder and the fun activities, such as recess, came to a
screeching halt in the sixth grade. Starting with seventh grade, school just became a daily task that
I had to force myself to get through. However, I began receiving high school credit that year and so
I told myself that I had to do well in order to make it to the next level, college. When high school
came around, I had to pay attention to every class because it had the ability to permanently stain
my transcript. I knew my transcript was an important part of the college enrollment process, so I

Nazis also carried out pseudo research to find out if homosexuality was inherited by injecting them

The poster that was placed in Jerry s locker states Do I dare disturb the universe? The word
universe could have many definitions, but first what it could mean to Jerry, can be different
than what it means to The Vigils, Brother Leon, and Jerry s father. After Jerry s mother passes
away his father s and his own universe just changes. While Jerry doesn t notice it himself, he
stops doing what is expected of him. And by that he starts disturbing The Vigils, and schools
universe. During the first few chapters of the book Jerry has a good behavior. He gets accepted
in the football team and was doing well in his classes trying to be a good student. But what Jerry
was dealing with was his mother s death. Even his relationship with his father was not going so
well. He would try to talk to his father; try to open up to his father. But it was like both of them
had closed up and were not expressing how they really feel about things. The Vigils assign Jerry
to not sell chocolate for 10 days. The reason why Jerry continues to not sell Chocolate even after
his assignment is done is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the balance of both the Vigils and the school rules is kept, then things in Trinity continue on as
normal. The universe of Trinity is upset by Jerry s actions of not selling the chocolates. Because
of his actions the power of The Vigils and Brother Leon is troubled. They cannot get him to do
what is expected of him, no matter how he is punished and threatened. Because of Jerry s actions
the Vigils power is lessened which causes them to do things that they would not usually do such as
following Brother Leon s orders, and also planning a fight against Jerry with permission of Brother
Leon. They are basically controlled and disturbed by Jerry. This disturbance does not only upset the
Vigils but could upset his own

Exhibitionistic Disorder Research Paper
Most people who suffer from Exhibitionistic Disorder do not seek treatment on their own even
after conviction. Exhibitionists will seek treatment because a judge enforces that they do so to

because they are too embarrassed of their loved ones finding out. There is a various amount of
treatments for exhibitionists. Therapies are a very common form of treatment for exhibitionists.
There is different type of therapies to treat this disorder. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very

Eight Typical Treatments For Binge Eating Disorder Essay
Since no single treatment alone has been proven effective, most treatment approaches involve a
combination of treatments to address medical issues, psychological issues, and nutrition. Some
treatments target specific groups such as women, men, children, and college students. This article
gives an overview of 8 typical treatments for binge eating disorder.
1. Individual, Group, and/or Family Psychotherapy: Three Types Cognitive behavioral therapy
(CBT) focuses on addressing a person s current thoughts and behaviors about himself. Either in
group or individual settings, therapists help people learn to identify distorted or negative thinking
about eating and self image. They learn to recognize and change faulty beliefs, to relate better to ...

Comprehensive social, emotional, and psychological screening helps target related disorders and
provide important direction in tailoring a treatment plan. Clients may be asked questions about
eating patterns, thoughts, and behaviors.
3. Nutritional Counseling Dieting focuses too much on the scale and the food. Pressures from
counting calories, food diaries, reading labels, too low calorie plans, and avoiding certain foods
using willpower can aggravate symptoms and quickly trigger binge eating. Behavioral weight loss
programs directly target obesity, which typically results from binge eating disorder. These
medically supervised programs use components of cognitive behavioral therapy. They make sure
your nutritional needs are met while also helping you learn to recognize and change faulty beliefs
about yourself and food and to cope better with triggers. Short in duration, they are fairly
inexpensive. Nutrition evaluations with a dietician help you to create an individualized, safe food
plan. It helps dispel some of the myths in the mixed messages we get from the media and society
about dieting, body image, and fast food. This can be useful when paired with self help treatments
and a behavioral weight loss program is unavailable.
4. Medications Some types of medications may help reduce symptoms of binge eating disorder, but
are not designed

It was one Sunday afternoon when Jimmy heard his parents calling him to the living room. He
did not feel like moving, like the lazy teenager he was, and proceeded to stay in his room. After a
while, his parents came in the room and made him go to the living room to watch the news.
Jimmy s mom, Mrs. Kimmel told him, There was another bombing in Paris. Jimmy selfishly
replied, So? Doesn t this happen quite often now? Why should I care? His parents then explained
to him that he should be aware of these things just in case so that he would be aware of the
current situation of the world he was living in. Jimmy shrugged off this lecture since was tired of

Jooslin Diabetes Center Case Study
Joslin Diabetes Center Case Analysis Situation The Joslin Diabetes Center (the Joslin) is a
facility that serves patients who suffer diabetes, conducts diabetes researches and provide
diabetes education. The center was founded in 1898. After insulin was found and introduced, the
Joslin grew fast. In 1956, Joslin Diabetes Center facility was finished and it was the first facility
that focused on diabetes care. After years of developing, by 2007 it had become the largest
diabetes center in the world. However, the Joslin was suffering operating losses consistently,
which led to the decrease of restricted assets. The Joslin was first to develop a diabetes care model
that combined both medical and educational professionals. This model includes three key elements:
treatment, education, and research. Applying this to the practice, the Joslin contains three
departments: clinical, research and strategic initiatives. Treatment Approximately 80,000 patients
visited the Joslin in 2008. Most of the patients came to the clinic no farther than 50 miles from
home. About 60 percent of the Joslin s patients had Type 2 diabetes; the rest had Type 1 diabetes.
Among the patients, about 2,000 were under 20 years of age, almost all who had Type 1 diabetes.
Research All of the research conducted in the Joslin was related to diabetes. The Joslin received
subsidy from National Institutes of Health and other financial sources. Besides, the Joslin has a
program to make its innovations profitable.

Five Most Important Events in U.S. History
First thing that I chose for my project is, 9/11. This was a dark time for all of America at the
time. 9/11 took place November 11, 2001. It was organized by 19 al Qaeda terrorists. The terrorists
hijacked 4 commercial planes. Two of the four headed to the World Trade Center while the third
headed for the Pentagon. After learning the actions of the three planes, the fourth crash landed in an
empty field somewhere in Western Pennsylvania. This is considered the largest number of fatalities
that were caused by a foreign attack that happened on American soil which resulted in almost 3,000
deaths. When the people of America found out the events, millions went to help fight and protect
against anymore attacks. Next I chose the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan project was a project
that brought the world into the nuclear age/era. In the year 1939, we learned that German
physicians had learned the secret to splitting the uranium atom. This was extraordinary. When
Albert Einstein fled to America, he brought information about the German s capability to create a
bomb capable of mass destruction. Einstein was accompanied by Erico Fermi, who escaped fascist
Italy. The two thought they should tell President Roosevelt. They wrote a letter to him urge him to
establish an atomic research project. Roosevelt agreed but didn t want everyone to know about it.
He called it the Manhattan Project. The main facility they built was in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Nearly two billion dollars was invested

  • 2. Impact Of The Construction Industry On The Uk Economy Sector introduction: Balfour Beatty Plc operates in the heavy construction sub sector of the FTSE 250. This sector is particularly interesting given the effect recession has had on this sector and the ongoing developments in the industry. The construction sector in the UK is unique as the output in this sector fell faster than the whole economy in 2008. It has slipped into recession 3 times over the past 5 years (gov.uk, 2013). Overall the recession has had a dramatic effect in the construction contracting industry. In recent years the sector has been plagued with low customer confidence, high unemployment and limited availability of finance. However now that the UK economy is recovering so is the construction sector, in August 2014 the sector grew at the fastest pace for seven months since the recession (bbc.co.uk 2014). Government Initiatives: Various recent measures have been undertaken by the government which are contributing to the success of the sector. In 2011 a Localism act was introduced simplifying the planning system which in turn incentivized growth. A growth and infrastructureact was also implemented which delivered a further boost to the industry. The government also plans to increase its capital spending plans by ВЈ3 billion per annum from 2015 16, meaning an additional investment of ВЈ18 billion by 2020 (gov.uk 2013). These schemes have proven successful since their implementation, planning application approval rates are at a ten year high. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The graphic to the left shows the supermassive black hole in the Milky Way, Sagittarius A*. Black holes have quite the history, and the idea of them has been around for longer than you may think. An object thats gravitational fields are too strong for anything, even light, to escape was first thought of in the 18th century. John Michell first wrote about a massive body with these features in a letter to Henry Cavendish of the Royal Society in 1783. The letter says: In the year 1796, French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace had the same thoughts in the first and second editions of his book Exposition du systГЁme du Monde. What he had called dark stars were ignored in the 19th century, because the idea that light was affected by gravity was unfathomable. In 1915, the great German mathematician, Albert Einstein, developed his own theory of general relativity. This showed that gravity does in fact influence light s motion. Within a few months of releasing his theory, Karl Schwarzschild had found the solution to Einstein s equations. The solution describes the gravitational field of a point mass and of a spherical mass. A couple months after Schwarzschild s discoveries, Johannes Droste had by himself given the same solution, but had written more extensively on its properties. In the year of 1931, the Indian astrophysicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar used special relativity to calculate that a non rotating body of electron degenerate matter above the ... In this respect, we can talk of an historical continuity between Arab and Norman dominations in Sicily. Throughout the play, there are many different references to imperialism and colonialism within the characters. The Tempest analyzes the imperialistic relationships between England and America but applies it to personal human interaction between the central characters. The island gives newcomers a sense of endless possibilities like claiming the land for themselves because of the belief in the Great Chain of Being and the seventeenth century being an age of exploration. The concentration of the hydrochloric acid will be changing each time to test if it speeds up a reaction. The speed for the light intensity to drop by 10% will be measured after each attempt so that the affects of concentration changes can be recorded. Each concentration will be tested three times and an average will be worked out, to see if there were any anomalies within the experiment. If one result is out of line with the others then that will be easily identified using graphs and tables. The concentration has been picked so that there is a range from 0.25M to 2M, at intervals of 0.5M, 1M, 1.25M and 1.5M. Prediction: I predict that the higher the concentration the faster the reaction will take place meaning the light intensity will drop by 10%. • 13. The Application Of The Patent System Intellectual Property Midterm Question #2 The core purpose of the patent system is to incentivize innovation but the current system often has the opposite effect. Patents give inventors monopolies over their inventions for a period of time in order to allow inventors to recoup the costs of research and development ( R D ) and to generate profits that reward inventors efforts, encouraging future investment. In exchange, patentees dedicate their inventions to the public domain once their patents expire. The traditional model of patent licensing, whereby a company pays a patent owner to license an invention that a company legitimately uses has been appropriated by non practicing entities ( patent trolls ) and aggressive patent holders that initiate frivolous lawsuits. Patent trolls often purchase patents from bankrupt companies, for the sole purpose of extorting licensing revenues from organizations that are actually creating new products. Patent examiners increasingly grant overly broad, obvious, and non novel patents particularly in high technology industries. The massive increase in U.S. patent awards in the past few decades has not been associated with more rapid economic growth, largely because many of the patents issued are for advances of marginal value, which slows high quality development and rollout by enabling patent trolling. Some companies aggressively assert their patent portfolios to prevent competitors from entering the market. Small companies are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs, but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal temp agencies ( Work, 307). Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization ( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the work force without being required to have legal immigration status. There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers ... On March 13, 1964, a woman named Kitty Genovese was stabbed repeatedly while several neighbors were vaguely aware of the unfolding events occurring outside. The lack of action on the neighbors part led to Genovese dying shortly after. Why did Kitty Genovese s neighbors fail to take action quickly? The psychologists John Darley and Bibb LatanГ© (1968) were interested in the Genovese incident and sought to find the answer to this psychological phenomenon. In their experiment, Darley and LatanГ© hypothesized that the higher number of bystanders would decrease helping behavior and vice versa. The two manipulated the number of confederates during each trial and recorded the time it took for the participants to report the simulated seizure. Their results confirmed that if were more confederates, each participant would feel less pressured to help, leading to the discovery of the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as the higher the number of people who notice an emergency, the less of a chance that those bystanders will help the victim (as cited in Aronson, Wilson, Akert, Sommers, 2015). The importance of the bystander effect is unparalleled because it determines whether humans will still help in a situation when there are other people available. Identification of disease specific molecular biomarkers is a rational approach to addressing current clinical challenges of whom to biopsy, whom to offer certain interventional therapies, in whom to alter therapeutic strategies, and in whom to follow up treatment outcome [12, 13]. With recent advances in biotechnology, many potential blood biomarkers have been identified and are currently under investigation. In this review, we will discuss and list some of the biomarkers that have a substantial amount of supportive data to be beneficial biologically and clinically, and other potential candidates are still under investigation. • 28. Test For Sugars, Starches, Proteins, And Lipids Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to test for sugars, starches, proteins, and lipids. Background information: Biological macromolecules are the large molecules necessary for life. There are four different types of macromolecules which include carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Each macromolecule has a specific function like providing energy or simply insulation. Macromolecules are made from monomers which come together through dehydration synthesis or hydrolysis to create the polymer or macromolecule. Carbohydrates are made from monosaccharides which are shaped like hexagons and come together to make polysaccharides which provide quick energy, structural support for plants (cellulose in cell walls) and are also found as chitin in the exoskeletons of arthropods. Lipids are made from glycerol and three fatty acids and are found in two different forms unsaturated and saturated. Lipids provide long term energy storage, insulate and cushion, and prevent water loss. Proteins are made from amino acids which come together forming a protein with peptide bonds. Proteins serve as hormones, muscle, parts of the immune system, and enzymes but if they are the wrong shape, they can t do their job. Nucleic acids are made from nucleotides and serve as DNA and RNA which store genetic info and transfer info to make new cells. When conducting this experiment, certain safety precautions must be taken. Proper protective gear must be worn including goggles and closed toed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are rarely any players who actually stop playing because of one head injury. An overabundant curiosity in other s affairs is certainly looked down upon yet it is rampant among people. Thus within in one sentence Byron points this idea out; people say one thing yet do another. This problem is central to what Byron sees as wrong with society, the basic hypocritical nature of people. There is truth to his thinking and by directing the reader to notice this, he can be said to be wanting to change that. Change usually does not occur until the fault is presented outright. Indeed, one form taken by the philosophic irony underlying the first canto suggests that cant and hypocrisy may endanger the very continuity of civilized tradition (Bostetter 22). The narrator, using his particular talent in prying in people s affairs feels fit to speak of Juan s upbringing. Instead of quarreling, had they been but both in,/ Their senses, they d have sent young master forth/ To school, or had him soundly whipp d at home,/ To teach him manners for the time to come (Byron 197 200).
