This document proposes an initiative called the WOW Bali International Initiative Adventure Learning Tour. The tour aims to empower youth from Latin America and East Asia through hands-on learning experiences in Bali, Indonesia around sustainable development, environmental education, and community-based entrepreneurship. Key activities during the week-long tour in October 2015 include cultural exchange sessions, marine ecosystem learning, sustainable farming experiences, and participation in the Pemuteran Marine Life Festival to showcase examples of sustainable tourism and conservation. The goal is to build leadership skills and understanding of addressing global challenges through education and collaborative solutions.

Community is the Answer: What is the Question?TANKO AHMED fwc
The Inclusive Community Education and Development Association (ICEADA) Conference series focus on the maxim of ‘community is the answer’. This general rule pursues community based sustainable development, particularly in developing societies where such efforts continuously fail to bring about results disconnected grassroots. A recent study (Ra-Ha, 2011) commissioned by the Kaduna State Government in Nigeria established that government services were not effective at grassroots due to absence of planned functional administrative structures at community level to absorb whatever was provided.
This Keynote Address draws attention of experts and practitioners to expand the horizon and reflect on ‘what is the question’ for ICEADA’s ‘community is the answer’. It aims at strengthening established foundations, as well as provides an umbrella for the main conference theme, sub-themes and expected major contributions. Existing ‘global-to-local’ efforts including challenges and opportunities in ICEADA’s laudable tasks are also discussed.

Wow Bali International Sustainable and Wellness InitiativeHai Dai
As an international destination, the renowned island of Bali never fails to captivate visitors with wonderful natural attractions and unique culture. Bali has been an epitome of ‘paradise’ to many tourists. But beyond the exoticized image of Bali lies a deeply entrenched tradition that keeps the Balinese cultural and social fabric intact. It runs in all practices of the Balinese that it hardly escapes the curious
and sensitive gaze of any tourist. This is the Tri Hita Karana, the three sources of natural aesthetics according to the Balinese; a “human centered design” of harmonious relationships with people to people, people with nature, and people with the divine.
Inspired by the Tri Hita Karana, our local community partners in Bali are collaborating with WOW Bali International Initiative to share its vision of a Global Banjar, where visitors from all over the world can come to Bali to experience a sustainable lifestyle and learning about one of the world’s living ancient cultures in the pristine ecological villages of Bali. We designed ‘WOW Paradise’ authentic experience to share ecological and cultural practices by the Balinese to inspire you to continue living a sustainable lifestyle long after your visit here in ‘paradise’.
In learning about the traditional processes of the Tri Hita Karana, which ties with the whole Balinese way of living, you will be actively participating in the preservation of ‘Old Bali’ and the enduring sense of ‘paradise’ that it evokes.
WOW experiences are guaranteed to make you more dynamic in living and relating harmoniously with nature. Our award winning team from “Wow Paradise”, WOW Bali International 'Sustainable Dynamic' Collective and International Sustainability and Wellness Initiative, will show you the building blocks of experiences that are connected to our human relationships, our ecology, and the divine.
Brief outline of WOW Bali progress in "Sustainable Dynamic" Development for the year of 201-2014. Based on Ms. Kim Calderon, Academic Researcher for The Development Academy of The Philippines.
Wow Bali is an internationally recognized program on regenerative sustainable development that started in 2012 in Bali, Indonesia. WOW Bali Co-founder and Creative Director Hai Dai Nguyen developed the Sustainable Dynamics Framework based on his case studies of grassroots sustainable community-based ecotourism best practices in Bali, Indonesia since 2008. “Sustainable Dynamics” are the forces and properties that enable a community to coexist and operate interdependently.
WOW Bali program and projects are sustained through mutualism and creative economics with its partners, allowing for the regeneration of new initiatives. The program used to operate under the Yayasan Tri Hita Karana Bali, an organization founded on the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—the core of the Balinese belief system, which traces the “causes of goodness” on a harmonious relationship between God, people, and nature. Tri Hita Karana Bali exists to educate both adults and children about organic farming practices. Through its various projects and workshops, it is able to sustain its advocacy towards preserving the Bali culture and raise environmental awareness through the principles of permaculture.
In 2015, after three years of developing sustainable local initiatives, WOW Bali evolved from being a program into its very own Yayasan Global Banjar Internasional with the support of its long-term local partners.

Higher education institutions have a critical role to play in driving sustainable development forward. But creating a sustainable future is much more than just creating green campuses or implementing recycling efforts or global citizenship initiatives. It also means inclusive education and lifelong learning.

Meeting briefing-notes- Cultural-Solidarity for WOW BaturHai Dai
Highlights of Exchange:
1. Mr. Hai Dai shared to the group that he was invited by the ASEAN Youth Leadership Congress to be a Guest Speaker for the Panel Session ASEAN Cultural Solidarity while Jaz Linh was invited in the Panel on ASEAN Economic Security. The Congress will be held in the Philippines on 1-2 December 2016.
2. Cultural Solidarity in the ASEAN Region is a huge challenge and WOW Bali is privileged to contribute to international discussions pertaining to the matter because of our “WOW Dynamics” Human Biodiversity Framework based on Tri Hita Karana undersanding for a “Lean Culture”.
Even within one’s own culture, one experiences problems, which makes bridging with people from other cultures in the ASEAN more challenging. The organizers believe that WOW Bali can speak on the topic as he approaches the subject from the “Human Biodiversity” Framework. This means that at the level of human biodiversity, we are all the same.
3. To facilitate connections with other cultures, we need to have solidarity within our own culture. Once your own cultural solidarity is strong, it’s easier to bridge into other culture. Cultural solidaity in practice can be exemplified in the following:
Salam hangat, salam sejahtera,

These collections are about our ‘Celebration Circle.’ It has been our personal ‘initiation’ into the mystery of creating a jewelry collection that goes beyond what we traditionally think as ‘work of art.’
We intensively research the reasons for creating such a jewelry collections. We even moved our family to a remote village, next to Taman Ayun Temple (recently selected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) to live among the local people. We wanted to experience first hand the sacredness of such a creative culture. This process has helped us to better understand the meaning of living and being in ‘illumination.’
We ended up with a collection that went beyond how jewelry is perceived to us! Beyond the deliverables of creative products, we wanted to share ‘ancient fragments’ of wisdom from a culture such as Bali and philosophies of the ancient. In short, we landed through a ‘strengthening’ to a place of ‘knowing,’ hence our collections is called ‘Moments in Expressions.’
We found the root word of ‘jewelry’ leads back to the Latin word ‘jocale,’ meaning plaything; this definitely changed our creative processes. ‘Moment of Expression’ collections hope to influence your expressive moments through contagious enthusiasm. We believe through creative actions of creating your personal adornment; with you as the masterpiece, will affirm your intent for a more dynamic to live and play.
We hope by initiating playful and sagacious meanings via our
jewelry collections, it will create and intensify new expressions for living in celebrations.
The initiation of your celebrations and/or just in your every day living can begin with ‘Moments in Expression.’ We wish to affirm your intentions with inspirational ‘playthings’ for those adorn moments to inspire living each moment as an expressive ‘living art!’
Love and Light,
Tracy Christine Nguyen
WOW Bali’s International Initiative for Sustainability and Wellness presents “Dynamic Wellness.”
After 15 years of extensive research, we found that it is important to “collectively sustain” at the community level in order to prevent the loss of biodiversity; the massive
extinctions happening in our ecological environment. The approach has been internationally recognized as “HOLISTIC PARTICIPATORY” model, which has been
academically case studied as a “Dynamic Wellness” solution;recently in 2014 presented as “the top sustainability and wellness framework in South East Asia.”
Ecologically conscious stakeholders have been brought together via mutualism and creative economics through active exchanges to share resources that can
exponentially regenerate through “Sustainable Tourism.” In this WOW presentation, we will share the evolution of our research and development—a combination of fusing
ancient cultures with modern methodologies, shifting perceptions towards dynamic well being through a “reverse osmosis” in the building blocks of experiences. This immediate astounding change will provide new opportunities to participate and for you to initiate positive actions towards a more fruitful abundance in living dynamic relationships. This is the real Wow Paradise!
For more information, please visit our web site at www.WOWBALI.com and/or visit our collaborative networks.
This presentation is the start of WOW Bali’s research and development for a creative autonomous exchange that can be utilized to connect the understanding of love via creativity and visa versa. We hope to go beyond the lump sum and understanding of what “love and creativity” means from just the emotional context. Unless we can develop one of the greatest emotions of our lives so that it can be “energy for motion, it will creates blockage to sustain within.
Our goals are the define the alikeness and via its similarities and differences that connect us at the human level. This sustainable human development processes of “Love and Creativity” seemed to be the backbone of sustainable development for a more holistic participatory approach. Please help share and create new dialogs.

RIDING THE WAVE OF CONTAGIOUS ENTHUSIASM born in FEALAC Youths
Conference 2015 in Bandung, WOW Bali is helping to empower the youths of Latin
America and East Asia “in the spirit of togetherness.”
Bali, October 1, 2015.
2. “If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks
and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea”
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I. Background
Globalization and interdependence are the characteristics of contemporary
international relations. While there areopportunities, we are also facing common
global challenges that affect all nations and the sustainable development of all
humankind. Thiswas addressed in a democratic and transparent manner(“Uluwatu
Declaration” establishedin the 6th Foreign Minister meeting. Bali, 13 – 14 June 2013)
We share the common view that in order to promote an increasing interconnectivity of our
two regions, the deepening and broadening of the existing bi-regional cooperation play
crucial roles (…) In order to ensure a fair and sustainable development, we encourage
cooperation and dialogue on macroeconomic policies and development strategies among
FEALAC member countries.”¹
There is the political will and the commitment of FEALAC members evidenced in the
7 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) that has been held since the forum was created
tofacilitate a cooperative development initiatives. It is from that same political will
and commitment that the work of our youthbegan.FEALAC Youth intends toplay a
role in moving forward with the opportunities at hand i.e. whatthe bi-regional
cooperation can bring on the table. These youths, representing various countries in
East Asia and Latin America, are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the ones who
will become the decision makers and the ones who will sit on the chairs of the future
FMM. When their time comes, they will be the frontliners, the fuel and the gear of the
organization and ministerial agreements.
FEALAC Youth Conference 2015 in Bandung brought together 300 youths between
16 and 26 years of age fromthe 36member countries, including 100 Indonesian
representatives. The event facilitatedthe development of social relations through
interaction and socialization to establish friendly relations amongthe Delegates,
encourage sportsmanship and positive mental attitude to the young participants. The
event hosted presentations on social entrepreneurship, online based business
development, and sustainable dynamics for regenerative sustainability development
to showcase the solutions to environment preservation and management of natural,
cultural & human resources. In particular, theonline learning exchanges for Marine-
based entrepreneurship made a big impact on the youth delegates.
3. In supporting FEALAC Ministry’s agreement on the need of education and
knowledge exchange to
…explore collaboration focusing on technology based entrepreneurship including transfer of
knowledge; joint knowledge management such as initiatives related to training and research
projects; academic and business mobility including exchange of professors and students, as
well as business associations in tech and labor intensive areas (…)¹
andthe Youth Delegates’ passion in regenerative development at the grass-roots
level, WOW Bali initiated “Adventure Learning Tour” program to empower the youth.
II. The Project
4. WOW’s grass-roots approach, developed at the turn of the century, had been case-
studied by the NationalAlliance of New Media Arts and Culture and was cited as the
most innovative approach in inspiring youths with new media. This approach
positioned Hai Dai, WOW co-founder, to be the Multimedia Director forUNESCO’s
Youth Global Ambassador program in 2006.(see Fig. 1, WOW Celebration
ProgramsInfographic)
WOW Bali’s 15 years of sustainable dynamics research and learning exchange
enables WOW Bali to accept the FEALAC Youth’s request—and the responsibility—
in hosting the “Adventure Learning Tour”.
WOW Bali’s“Adventure Learning Tour” is a project basedon WOW’s Sustainable
Dynamics and is designed in accordance to all principles of FEALAC, the work’s
agendas, and the FMM declarations:
(…) we reiterate our commitment to a sustainable, inclusive economic growth by addressing
global environmental challenges, strengthening resilience and improving disaster
preparedness capacities. We will join our efforts and strive towards achieving a more stable
climate, clean atmosphere, healthy and productive forests and oceans, which are just some
of the environmental resources from which we all benefit.¹
WOW plays the role of the implementing agency—an NGO with amissionto provide
mentoring and structural support in inspiring transformational leadership among the
FEALAC youth. We believe thatthe “Adventure Learning Tour” is just the beginning
of what promises to be a continuous journey. The path thatwas initiated in
Indonesiagivesthe country a big opportunityto play an important rolein ensuring
itscontinuance.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” -
Nelson Mandela.Education is a unique solution to tackle our current global
challenges. The youth are the future; but it is the older generation’s responsibility to
prepare the leaders, professionals, worker, entrepreneurs and teachers, andensure
the next generation’s right to a sustainablefuture.

the acknowledgement, respect and lovegained from experiencing the richness
of the cultural exchangeand diversityamong FEALAC youth.

Adaptation as the new concept design versus new challenges.
• To experience and understand sustainable dynamics in developing
community-based entrepreneurship not only as solution for livelihood
improvement and family wellness, but also as an ethical principle in
developing sustainability among the FEALAC community.
7. IV. The Outputs
WOW Bali’s “Adventure Learning Tour” will “deep dive” into various parts of Bali’s
Marine Life Festival in Pemuteran from 23 October 2015through26 October2015, to
raise awareness of Bali’s delicate marine ecosystem and its surrounding.
We believe that Pemuteran Festival is the perfect event to present the Youth with
real life example of Marine conservation, community-based entrepreneurship and
sustainable tourism.Experiencing the Festival—situated in the prize-winning tourist
destination—will allow the participants to sample best practice and the less effective
practices of the management using proactive, dynamic and creative approach.
WOW Bali’s Adventure Learning tour will be headquartered at WOW’s SekarBumi
Farm, 30 minutes north of Ubud. The farm, owned by Pak KetutSubagia, is home to
the mammoth butterflies and “flying draco” dragon. SekarBumi is one of the largest
co-op farms, with the participation of more than 100 families. Delegates will have the
chanceto experience how sustainable farming is done communally. It’s indeed the
first output and one of the main contributions of WOW Bali to the event and the
participants.
The expected outputs are:
• Talk Show on “Sustainable marine economy, and marine-trepreneur
development in Buleleng”-Featuringinternational speakers at FEALAC Youths
Conference—the “Dynamic Duo”—the Cuban marine geophysicist and
archaeologist Yuri Romero and the Vietnamese world citizen WOW Bali
founder and creative director,Hai Dai.
• Talk Showon community-based tourism development – Featuring the
community visionaries who turned “a poverty-stricken area into a prize-
winning tourist destination” of Pemuteran, Pak AgungPrana and his two sons,
Bagus Mantra and AgungWah.
*Talk Show format supported by Mr. Ajay Vidyasagar, YouTube’s
Partnerships Director of AsiaPacific. Our goals are to develop the delegates’
learning skills with online and mobile technology using WOW’s soft skills and
transformative leadership approach.

Tour Experience –One of which that will initiate the Adventure Learning Tour
is the cultural exchange between NiangRaka, Bali’s oldest dance
maestro, anda dancer youth Delegate, Joelle Ferrier, from Suriname who will
discussthe similarities between cultures through dance and its natural ability
to connect people.

smalltourism-based towns.
• Community-basedWorkshops and Dynamic Learning Exchangein solving
the problem of environment management using New Media tools -
Conducted by Raymard C. Guiterrez from the Philippines, producer at Voice
of the Youth Radiofeaturing otherYouth Delegates and the local community
members.
• Eco-tourism Best Practice for Regenerative Sustainability. The Delegates
will use their creative thinking, inspired from their first-hand experience with
the community-based farming in the mountains and marine development by
the sea,to evaluate, criticize and suggest new models & modules in
sustainable tourism.
This project is an on-going dynamic and creative initiative, which can be expanded
and/orimplemented in other FEALAC event. It is something to care for, to work on
and to enjoy.
The FEALAC Youth Wave has just begun. Let’s keep the wave high!
9. V. The outcomes
The outcomes expected from the deliverables of this event are:
• In the short term: Learning, which creates awareness, knowledge, attitude,
skills, opinion, aspirations and motivations.
• In the medium term analysis we expect: Action, which transforms behaviour,
practice, decision-making, policies, and social actions.
• And in the long term: Conditions, which affect social, economy, people and
environment.
In summary, the goal of this project is capacity-building for the youth—the agents of
change—that the world needs to lead the future. This is not a youth utopia, but
FEALAC’s mission as presented in the 7th
Foreign Ministers Meeting, in San Jose,
Costa Rica two months ago:
To achieve “Two Regions, One Vision”, we realize the importance of connectivity between
the two regions in enhancing and strengthening cooperation in all sectors, and in the efforts
to narrow the distance and gaps.
(…) Sustainability, as a model for development, raises the need to satisfy the current
requirements of society without compromising the right of future generations to satisfy theirs.
Tourism is a resource intensive activity and the incorporation of sustainability criteria for this
matter represents an area of opportunity for both regions and their communities.
Consequently, we envision sustainable tourism as a balanced interaction in the proper use
of our natural and cultural resources respecting the sovereignty and inherent right of each
people. This type of tourism contributes to improving the quality of life of local communities
and to their development.²
10. VI. Conclusions
With WOW’s “Sustainable Dynamic Collective” framework—a collaborative
partnership amongbusinesses, academia, government, NGO’s and the
communities—we hope to continue the wave we have started with the youth’s
leadership at FEALAC Youth Conference 2015 in Bandung (see fig. 2, WOW
Sustainable DynamicsInfoGraphics). We intend to help create the ripple effect of
wellness among our youths and empower them with the digital tools and process of
social holistic entrepreneurship for regenerative development in their home
countries.
The FEALACYouth Delegates and the WOW Bali team are committed in realizing
thisintention and project plan. We understand the importance of the Ministry’s
support in helping us move forward with this “Adventure Learning Tour” program as
well as the creation of similar futureprograms in others countries.
FEALAC is about cooperation, mutualism and empowerment all ingredients of the
youth enthusiasm.
