If you were told millions of people across the world are hungry not because we don’t produce enough food, but because we waste food, you’ll probably laugh it off. But then, this is a fact, an inconvenient truth to be precise, that we have long turned blind eye to. In fact, when it comes to food wastage, India is one of the major culprits.

The purpose of the Learn/Grow project is to teach families in third world countries how to make the most of food plants that grow locally. Most health issues in young children in developing nations are caused by poor nutrition when some of the most nutritious food plants in the world are growing in their own back yards.
India has had a rich diversity in its food and eating habits. The diversity of seasons, soils & culture also reflects in the diversity of grains and cereals that were grown across the length and breadth of the country. Millets are a group of small seeded grasses used as cereals. The Indian sub-continent has had a rich heritage of growing them and until very recently millets formed a very large part of our food basket. Millets were considered the
food of the poor due to their ability to grow even in the most marginalised of lands. This was a cereal that could be grown by everyone and eaten by everyone, unlike paddy or wheat which needed more fertile lands and more focus on irrigation and crop management. Millets were also ideal for rain-fed conditions and saline soils..

On the occasion of World Food Day, Dera Sacha Sauda Volunteers, conducted a nation wide ration
distribution drive to make sure the message is given to the masse about fighting hunger & malnutrition,
collectively.
Understanding the needs of lacs of marginalised forced to go, hungry for days, Rev. Guru Ji has initiated
various measures for these children, of lesser God.
Towards this goal, Food banks, Clothes Banks etc. are established in every Block (district/city), which are duly
refilled by the volunteers.
On a particular day, distribution is conducted, across the Block after having identified the needy families.
Households are identified by conducting survey by the volunteers, to make sure, supplies are provided to
genuine families and accordingly those families are provided monthly supplies, with due respect and dignity and
month on month their needs are duly fulfilled.
