2. Aim
Our aim in this project is to explore the concept of ‘culture’ in terms of;
• what it is and what it is not,
• how it is formed / how it forms itself,
• how it comes alive,
• what kind of a role it plays in the formation of identities at any level and context;
social, cultural, sociocultural, individual, and in terms of social class membership,
• what role it plays in social life, whether it is a structure or a process.
3. The Focus
Arguing out the perspective of material culture, the practice theory and everyday life
studies as these particularly approached by Michel de Certeau, Pierre Bourdieu, Henri
Lefebvre, and Daniel Miller.
We will analyze the cultural dynamics and determinants of everyday practices which
have been transformed by the premises of modern life. The following three themes will
be the focal point for design responses.
• Food consumption and reproduction practices at home,
• Travelling in the city,
• Practices and maintenance of hygiene.
Also together with Erasmus partners migration of cultural rituals theme will be studied.
4. The Process
•Readings to grasp theoretical and methodological perspective to study culture and
culturally determined practices.
•Stating the problem to determine the core approach in the design process.
•The design phase;

ii. Mood boards, sketches,
iii. Documentation of data collection,
iv. Analysis of data collection,
v. Sketches through design phase,
