Today we see a worldwide tendency
to uniformity. Rationality
dominates, accompanied but
not diversified by irrationality;
signs, rational in their way, are
attached to things in order to
convey the prestige of their
possessors and their place in the
hierarchy.
What happened to change the
situation? The functional element
was
itself disengaged, rationalized, then
industrially produced, and finally
imposed by constraint and
persuasion: that is to say, by means
of advertising
and by powerful economic and
political lobbies.
Within these parameters, there come
to be constructed multiple
systems or subsystems, each
establishing in its own way a more or
less
coherent set of more or less durable
objects.

Time and time again, Lefebvre
describes everyday life as the
overlooked soil from which the
verdant foliage of art, philosophy,
politics, science, etc. Sprout, only to
incompetently attempt to detach
themselves from this «base»
forgetting their relevance is bound
to the movement of this «base», as if
a beatiful landscape could ever
prosper without fertile soil from
which to grow.
Excavating everyday «gastropraxis»
aids in discovering the integrative
processes occuring between
individual activity and the social
whole, as a mediation between the
two, and «it is in everyday life that
the sum total of relations which
make the human – and every human
being – a whole takes its shape and
form.»
Our subject, everyday gastropraxis,
can be defined as a partial totality,
both repetitive and creative.As such,
it is a level of the social totality, a
specific space-time activity of
everyday life: roughly a “sub-system.”
Gastropraxis mediates individuals
with grander, more extensive
abstract social entities.

Humans do not nourish themselves
from natural nutrients, nor from pure
dietary principles, but from cultured

according to laws of compatibility and
rules of propriety unique to each
cultural area (...). Foodstuffs and dishes
are arranged in each region according
to a detailed code of values, rules, and
symbols around which is organized the
alimentary model characteristic of a
cultural area in a given period. In this
detailed code, more or less well known
and followed, the organizer of the
family meal will draw on inspiration, on
her purchase and preparation
possibilities, on her whim and the
desires of her "guests." But sometimes
lassitude overtakes her in the face of
the
ephemeral, perishable character of her
task.
Every food practice directly depends
on a network of impulses (likes
and dislikes) with respect to smells,
colors, and forms, as well as to
consistency types; this geography is as
strongly culturalized as the
representations of health and good
table manners and thus is just as
histoncized.
In the long term, of all these exclusions

of a silent piling up of an entire
stratification of orders and counter
orders that stem at the same time
from an ethnohistory, a biology, a

Dishbit orders can be given on device or remotely
via the apps. Once the order is taken, dishbit
starts printing them with PLA ﬁlament.
Finished dishbits are taken out of the printers and
are carried over to one of the shelves on the side of the
device with a mechanical retriever. These temporary
storage shelves allow users to pickup their orders on
more flexible schedules.
Users can return their used dishbits to the bin on
the back of the device where they will be cleaned
with CO2 gas. Once cleaned, used dishbits are
carried to the top by an endless worm gear, while
being shredded and heated to liquid polymer.
This polymer is extruded back in to the ﬁlament roll
to be used again.

Dishbit interface can be used with or without mobile devices nearby. When a mobile device is nearby,
dishbit can recognize user by iBeacon and launch her profile.
Recipes and dishbits can be browsed by either locality, taste maps or scanning products
with their barcodes.
Users can find dishbits by various filters, customize them based on the
designer's parameters and print them away.
