This document provides instructions for an activity where students imagine designing an everyday household object without the use of machinery. Students are given an actual household object and asked to consider what materials and processes may have been used to create it before the industrial revolution. They then have to envision designing an alternative version of the same object using only materials that could be made by hand, and describe how it might be constructed without machines.
