Work orientation can be viewed as a job, career, or calling. A job orientation sees work as a chore done for a paycheck with no expectations beyond the workday. A career orientation focuses on advancement, prestige, and power with an eye towards promotions. A calling orientation finds fulfillment and passion in the work itself for its own sake and sees the work as contributing to a greater good.
