How the current environment has redefined 3 key aspects of work and how you can adapt and prepare for it. With the rapidly advancing severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the world has been strong-armed into having to work from home. And with that what has long been an experiment by a few, popular with a small percentage of working professionals, has become a reality for most. This sudden change in the way we work has quite possibly changed the future of work for good.
Is remote working a blessing or a burden for companiesshubhamjain1340
COVID-19 has had an impact on almost every aspect of our daily lives, including overall productivity. The most significant change has been the concept of working from home. It is currently practised by roughly half of the country's population. This kind of exercise has never been done before on the planet. Will work from home in its current form be temporary or permanent? Can organisations see that as a viable option, especially with people claiming that the boundaries between work and life have almost vanished? We see changes in operational levels, changes in daily routines, and how workers stay on top of things outside of the use of work and productivity tools. Many major technology companies have announced plans to allow their employees to work from home for the majority of 2020. Others are making the transition more permanent. Some businesses have taken the following actions: Twitter announced that jobs would be able to be operated remotely "forever." Facebook Inc has announced that it will allow its employees to work from home until July of next year, while Google has extended remote working time for employees who do not need to be in the office until June of next year.

Essential steps for a successful transition to the virtual workspaceElena Badea
Until now, working from home was an option used to increase employee motivation through the concept of work-life balance, the share of working from home being in most cases 1 day / week. Today, under the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, working from home is no longer an option but a solution. Thus, it has become the obligation of companies to create a digital work environment that allows remote working.

The Business Productivity Suite comprises of the cream of today’s productivity technology, under one roof, designed to address five focus areas that businesses tell us they need to make more efficient: meetings, video and data conferencing, workspaces and flexible working, training and marketing and communications.
Not so long ago, the idea that an employee could connect anytime, anywhere, was seen as a revolution in work–life balance. Your smartphone could turn wherever you were into your mobile office.
But now many believe this unlimited connectivity has gone too far. Studies have concluded that late-night smartphone use has an adverse effect on employee productivity and engagement. But newly enacted email policies intended to mandate unplugging don’t address the root cause of the problem: wasted time from inattentive management.
With more and more younger employees entering the work place and expecting to be able to use video as they do in their personal lives (63%) businesses are risking alienating the ‘selfie-generation’ from their workforce.
Live Video's Central Role In The Changing WorkforceBlueJeans Network
Whether it’s Skyping grandma, FaceTiming friends, or using the Periscope social media app, live two-way video is playing an increasingly central role in everyday lives – particularly among younger people. However, while many understand the benefits of live video, it is a communication tool that has yet to be fully embraced in the workplace.
BlueJeans Network commissioned a survey to uncover the current attitudes and trends surrounding live video usage. The goal was to determine how employees felt about adopting this form of communication at work, and how responsive organizations might be to changing their communication methods.
Long-Term Impacts of Pandemic-Style WorkSogolytics
We all know that the pandemic has changed our lives, but how has it changed our work, and what changes will persist in the long term? Both employers and employees should be prepared.
The 1990 United States census showed over 2 million home based workers. Studies by IDC estimate in 2007 this number increased to over 8 million teleworkers. The facts are in, knowledge workers are staying home. The Service Desk has to rise to these new challenges, and the pain is real. Find out how your service centers can adapt as support goes home!

For millennia people have been travelling to stadia to watch and participate in spectacles of pure brutality and sport sponsored by kings, emperors, states, individuals. Today sport and other entertainment events have become a major global business sector with executive facilities, commercial sponsorship, broadcast and full media coverage. But, in many respects, the crowds and their experience has changed little. However, technology is impacting this situation and looks set to accelerate the rate of change.
In a similar manner to the airline business; the few pay around 80% of the costs, whilst the many fulfil the 20% or so. All the attention is lavished on the few and the many are neglected and remain a latent opportunity. The technologies of communication, networking, apps, Big and Meta Data can change all this by creating a ‘market of one’. Satisfying the needs of every individual and every group should be pursued as it leads to a world of new services and ‘pre-selling’.
The technological opportunities are endless with augmented reality able to furnish a view from every angle to mobile devices and wearables supported by real time details, data and statistics. Clouds and ‘networks without infrastructure’ can overcome the limitations of 3, 4, 5G and wifi systems that will never satisfy the need for growing customer connectivity and bandwidth. They can also help solve entry congestion and simultaneously support security and vending operations. Branded mobile devices with pre-loaded apps are also an obvious step towards the creation of ‘The Club’ identity and ‘belonging’ that goes way beyond the latest strip, scarves and hats etc with far more kudos than a gold card!
“On a grand scale this all involves Big Data, but for a ‘market of one’ it is the Meta Data that counts - that is where the opportunity and the $$$ reside”
All of this comes at a price of management and operational change! Embracing the new takes a positive mind and considerable energy in the face of day to day operations, but the workforce and the customer base is also changing fast with the old and old of mind being replaced by the young and young of mind. The tech savvy are on the move and making up an increasing proportion of society - and the trick is to leverage their knowledge and abilities at every level possible.

Working remotely as a developers before and after Covid-19Aude Barral
With the Covid-19 health crisis came profound changes in terms of remote work and organizational patterns.
How can we expect these changes to affect our work life long-term? We decided to dig further into developers’ teleworking aspirations.
In June 2020, over 2,000 developers from 94 countries across the globe, shared with us their expectations and experience when it comes to working remotely.
The new world of work is coming. Today, employees can make new choices regarding work flexibility and balance as they carry the task remotely.
There's been an increased demand for remote employment on a global scale. This opened the job market for businesses that want to go all-in on distributed teams or use the hybrid approach, especially now that people connect with coworkers outside their area. The epidemic creates a chance for enterprises to expand globally while bringing more inclusion and diversity.
For companies who plan to start their international expansion, the simplicity of working from home will be giving rise to operational complexity. In that matter, dealing with global HR consultants that can facilitate a smooth transition to a new order at work can be beneficial. Like Employer of Record Services (EOR) providers that offer international payroll solutions, employment permit, and immigration services. Most of them have local expertise that ensures full compliance with taxation and labor laws. Get started today and embrace the change coming.

Top 10 Human Resources Trends of the Decade

The top ten trends of the decade for Human Resources staff and the employees served at work were not obvious nor were they easy to pick from my original list. Depending on your company size, your location, and the health and progress of your company and industry, the top ten Human Resources trends may have differed for you.
Although the selection was a challenge, and I still go back and forth, these are my top ten Human Resources trends of the decade.
These Human Resources trends are presented in no particular order aside from the first trend, which has swamped HR the past couple of years.
It's the Economy
With US unemployment at 10.2%, as I write this, and extended unemployment benefits and COBRA subsidies keeping many families afloat, this economic downturn has left no one unaffected. Even people still employed have watched as their 401(k)s and savings sunk to new lows.
Almost no employees have received a raise without a promotion this past year. Normal bonuses and profit sharing have been replaced with mandatory furloughs and more work to replace that of laid-off coworkers.
Mourning the loss of laid-off coworkers with feelings of guilt, anxiety, and fear has also chipped away at the employee’s comfort level at work. Looking over their shoulder and protecting their own job has become commonplace. No one can predict how bad the economy could become or how long the downturn will last.
So, business leaders don’t know whether they are managing from an economic perspective that the economy has been reset forever or a down economy that will recover. Business leaders are struggling to manage in times they have never before experienced – and the employees, who may also be experiencing stressful economic trauma outside of work, are watching and concerned.

Connectivity and work dominance
To stay connected in the workplace people embracing technological advancement is inevitable for organizations. The face of many successful organizations has changed due to the persistent use of advancements in technology. It is clear in our modern day that technology has impacted organization’s businesses as much as technology has also changed the lives of those that use it in organizations (Lee 2016). The article “Connectivity and work dominance: Panacea or pariah” by Stoner, Stephens and McGowan best explains this impact. The impact is shown through using the concept of the weather work-connecting technologies (WCT) to explain the changes in the business environment. Changes in the business environment and the work-connecting technologies is the reason there is a disparity between professionals and the young managers in their work-life balance and the manner in which they use technology. This paper will show us the impact of the decisions that the new generation professionals have made concerning their use of technology as well as the negative and positive perspectives that different professional groups that made decisions to go beyond the set boundaries and expanded their connectivity.
Discussion of the Topic {third Person}
Connectivity and work dominance was a topic that was researched by Stoner, Stephens and McGowan so that they can show the impact that the work-connecting technologies and the changes that are takin place in the organization will have on the organization itself as well as the employees working in the organization. The problem addressed in this research is the manner in which technology is increasing the workloads in organizations and this causes people to have busy and long hours that affect the manner that people connect with other people as well their families after work. The professionals and the young managers are in a place where they have to choose between their families and career advancements and each of this have negative and positive impact. The young managers and the professionals were targeted since they are mostly affected by the WCT. The WCT include cell phones, laptops, and the Internet.
Results, Findings, and Conclusions {third Person
The research includes 14 WCT and the response of those that admitted they use the WCT in their organization. The results were that the most used WCT are voice mail, E-mail, Fax, computers the least used included PDA, Pager, and Groupware. People now use the computers especially in their homes and have wireless networks. The findings showed that due to use of wireless networks in the homes and in their workplaces people are using most hours to work in their workplaces and in homes. As per the professionals that responded, this was a better chance for them to work for more hours. This showed how the WCT is affecting the manner that people are dependent on technology and they have no or little time to spend and connect with their families and co.

These headlines and article titles, many from the popular press, capture today’s work climate. For many, work is a 24/7 endeavor. With laptop and cell phone in hand, employees are always connected to their workplace, ready to deal with what ever issues emerge no matter what time or day of the week. This is in addition to the long hours they may already be physically spending in the office.
The Twenty-first century Corporation has a global reach, and competes in a fast-paced, ever-changing world-wide business climate. To be agile and responsive to economic and market demands, many business enterprises establish working partnerships with other companies, disperse their operational units throughout the world, develop a global workforce, and collaborate via complex electronic information and communication systems. Functioning with a 24/7 work mentality, organizations are information-driven, sociotechnical entities—human-digital work systems—that often are experienced as a seemingly endless series of conversations, decisions, tasks and projects.
With information and communication technology (ICT) having become integral to the workplace, the human person and the business’s ICT are one, unified system. With this, a new type of workplace and worker has been created.

Work from Home - Are You Prepared for the Future of Work?
1. Are You Prepared for
the Future of Work?
How the current environment has redefined 3 key aspects of work and how you
can adapt and prepare for it
May 2020
2. Recently much of the world has been strong-armed into having to work from home due to the
COVID-19 pandemic. What has long been an experiment by a few became a reality for most.We
recently conducted a survey with senior executives to understand the different aspects of
‘Work from Home’and its likely impact on the future of work. When we look at the results of our
survey in combination with research and insights from some of our partner universities,it
becomes clear that this pandemic will forever change the way we will work (and hence live) in
the future.
The coronavirus has had some unintentional results by
making it compulsory for many to work from home in
many countries across the world.Keeping in mind that
the present situation is not unlike a dystopian story that
nobody thought would be real,we realized that people
have been forced to make decisions and choices they
never thought they would be making.
In a panel discussion on UCLA Anderson’s Virtual Impact
Talks,moderatedbyProfessor Terry Kramer,faculty
director of the Easton Technology Management Center,
including Eleni Kounalakis,California’s first female
lieutenant governor and Elana Zeide,PULSE Fellow in
Artificial Intelligence,Law and Policy at the UCLA School of Law,Matt Plummer,VP of product strategy
at ZipRecruiter talks about how the corporate world is in an almost forced experiment. And while
many thought working remotely would take years to figure out,in fact has been established, with
some sense of coherence,almost immediately.
So everyone must have mixed feelings about this situation - from enjoying a break in their routine
and being able to spend a little more time with loved ones,to being frustrated about not having the
option to step outside and the sudden lack of a familiar routine. We leaned towards most people
being surprisingly pleased with the sudden work from home arrangement.
Through our survey we found that 86% want to continue to work from home 2 or more days every
week, and 14% want to work from home permanently. This led us to understand 2 things:
SIGNIFICANTLY MORE PEOPLE WILL WORK FROM HOME
MORE OFTEN
3. That contradiction reveals the shift in priorities and the mindset of senior executives. As we see it,
leaders and companies will have to rethink their work structure, policies, and general framework
much sooner than they had expected.
a) For many this is quite possibly their first experience working from home. The concept is more
popular with Generation Y and Z with the shift in the kind of jobs as well as renewed views and
ideas on work and work culture. And it is not as popular in the corporate world. So,for those who
have experienced it for the first time in a corporate setting have realized that they are able to work
from home with little change in the effect it has on their colleagues or perhaps quality of work.
b) The circumstances have also led many to revisit their priorities. This government issued
sequestering has allowed many to spend more time with their families and perhaps take a much
needed break from their routine. And since work hasn’t stopped, the temptation of the elusive
work-life balance presents itself and the question arises of why this arrangement can’t be
continued,if only in part,on the other side of the pandemic since work is not really affected.
While that result is not entirely unexpected, what does strike as interesting is that only 35% of the
respondents said they are more productive at home than at the office and 18% said they are just as
productive at home as they were at the office. This number is still significantly less than the
proportion of individuals (86%) who would like to continue working from home 2 or more days a
week even after the pandemic.
What would be your preferred choice in future?
How productive have you been working from home as compared to working at the office?
Work from office/co-working space only
Work remotely 2 days a week
Work remotely 3 days a week
Work remotely permanently
I have been more productive working from home
90 - 100%
60 - 80%
40 - 60%
4. quality of communication is a concern area.Just over 30% of respondents believe that lack of
dedicated attention from others is the biggest challenge they face in the current environment.
Over 60% of executives are communicating with their
teams at least once a day.29% of the respondents
recognize frequent communication with their team as
the most important contributor to higher
productivity. While the need to communicate seems
to come naturally to everyone,it is also clear that
That contradiction reveals the shift in priorities and the mindset of senior executives. As we see it,
leaders and companies will have to rethink their work structure, policies, and general framework
much sooner than they had expected.Even companies who have been working remotely before the
pandemic will have to revise the way they work and communicate with their colleagues.
In an recent conversation published by MIT Technology Review,AliRayl( VP,CustomerExperience,
Slack) and Rajesh Amandan (CEO,Ultranauts) shared their experiences about how while it is easier to
get a sense of the environment of a team by walking around and observing them interact, the virtual
shift forces them to be more deliberate in the way that they communicate, plan, and execute.
COMMUNICATION WILL DEFINE WINNING TEAMS
Communication between teams and team members
is going to be a key challenge, especially for those
who are not accustomed to this newly enforced
manner of working. Our survey results pointed to this
key aspect of‘Work from Home’.
How often are you in virtual meetings with your team?
Once a day
Twice a day
Twice a week
Multiple times in a week
5. Which of the below do you believe is the most important contributor to achieve more when
working from home?
Maintaining regular and defined work hours
Having a dedicated work space at home
Setting ground rules with the people you stay
Communicating more often with my team
Other
Teams will have to find their footing and device processes to make sure there are no gaps and no
space for miscommunication making work from home just as effective.Empathy will become even
more important for leaders as we communicate in environments where body language and gestures
are not contributing to how we relate to people and issues we discuss.

CORNER OFFICE,ANYONE?
It is noteworthy that a very slim percentage of
people were challenged by not having a
dedicated work space. And only just under 20%
believe it to be an important contributor to work
efficiently from home. While in reality it is one of
the primary suggestions or tips by many
publications to be able to function productively
and effectively while working from home.It is also
what many experienced work-from-home
professionals practice.
As valuable as it might seem, very few individuals
will miss the amenities of the office to a point
where it hinders their productivity.Even though the novelty of working indefinitely from the comfort
of one’s own home might not have waned yet, the‘comfort’will continue to play a large role. Also,
more than 50% of people have indicated that they are almost as productive or more productive while
working from home.
6. So,although companies spend a considerable portion of their budget on infrastructure, service,
equipment, features, etc.,it does not measure in value. This could again mean one of two things,or
possibly both:
a) The amenities and perks are,in reality, not as valuable to employees as previously perceived, and
b) When compared to the advantages of working from home, those amenities and perks don’t
match up
If investing large portions of their budget in amenities and equipment is not perceived as a valuable
offer, more companies might understandably weave-in the flexibility of working from home and
correspondingly save their own overheads on some of the office fitouts. This might mean the future
of work will be very different very soon.
What is the biggest challenge you faced while working remotely?
Internet Connectivity
Lack of dedicated work space
Distractions at home
Not able to get other’s dedicated attention
None,working remotely is great
Human interaction.
Other
7. When it comes to tools for communication, there is a very wide adoption of video conferencing tools
and individuals have made clear choices based on ease of use, corporate policies, and security.
Corporate leaders will have to streamline the choice of tools within their teams, then standardize
those choices and practice usage after carefully considering data security, privacy, ease of use,and
bandwidth requirements. They will also lead by example in terms of setting meeting norms through
these tools such as the use of webcams, the mute feature, the chat feature, and other functionality.
Which video conferencing tool is the best for remote working?
Zoom
Skype
Google Hangouts
Webex
Microsoft Teams
Whatsapp
8. To conclude, the future of work that was predicted to change slowly through this new decade has
been revised to change here and now.Much about the way we work is set to change along with the
nature of our work relationships, processes, expectations, policies, and even types of jobs. The positive
is that work-life balance will possibly improve since many have been forced to realize it.So,while
work structures and company policies will undergo change,so will our home experiences and
lifestyles.Maybe it is time for you to have a talk with your family!
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS
While our research and survey revealed a few notable aspects,UC Berkeley’s Chief Innovation and
Entrepreneurship Officer Rich Lyons shares 3 insights he has gained through his professional
experience that can be applied during the current trying times. With our research and the results of
our survey put together, here are our top 4 essential recommendations to make working from home
more productive and effective.
Working from home is going to become more prevalent and if your colleagues are choosing to do so,
eventually the purpose of going to office will also get diluted. So it will be beneficial to adjust to the
new reality by setting expectations at home and work, setting boundaries of work, and finding the
new work-life balance to manage stress levels.
ADJUSTING TO WORKING FROM HOME
Having dedicated work hours and sticking to a daily schedule can up your productivity significantly.
For those who are not accustomed to working from home,it’s easy to lose sight of work and nonwork
time leading to overlapping. This leads to unfocused work time which leads to lower productivity.
STICK TO A WORK SCHEDULE
For many working from home for the first time,a dedicated work area is something that’s missing. But
that is important to be able to work efficiently. And while it does not need to be a work desk,it can be
a dedicated spot on the dining table,or even a particular seat and coffee table in a corner.Set up your
space with everything you need for a regular working day and it will help you focus and be motivated
through the day.
SET UP A DEDICATED WORK SPACE
Stay connected with your colleagues, preferably through video calls. It is also important to have
check-ins which are defined and scheduled apart from unplanned conversation that might be
needed. In this unfamiliar situation,it is easy to feel isolated from your regular work routine,so make it
a point to communicate with your colleagues on a regular basis, whether you report to them,or
manage them,or work alongside them. This helps keep everyone motivated.
MAKE SURE TO STAY CONNECTED
