This document provides a report on wind turbine testing conducted at NASA-Ames Research Center. Two vertical axis wind turbine designs - a Savonius rotor and a Lenz rotor - were tested across a range of wind speeds and rotor configurations to analyze their performance. Key findings from the testing include:
- The Savonius rotor had higher maximum efficiency than the Lenz rotor.
- Both rotors exhibited structural resonances at certain rotational speeds that limited testing at higher wind speeds.
- Data analysis showed the Savonius rotor's maximum power coefficient occurred at a tip speed ratio around 1-1.5, while the Lenz rotor's maximum was around 2-2.5.
