This document provides a history and overview of the development of badminton. It discusses how the game originated in ancient Greece and spread to other parts of Asia and Europe. In the 1860s, British army officers in India introduced a net to the existing game of battledore and shuttlecock, creating a new competitive sport. This evolved into the modern game of badminton. Key events in the development and growth of the sport internationally are highlighted from the late 1800s through the present day. The document also describes the standard equipment, court dimensions and layout, scoring system, and fundamental skills like footwork required to play badminton.
Ever since we took up the responsibility of bringing you quizzes on new and exciting topics, we have often heard people say “I am interested in that topic, but I know nothing about it. Where should I start? What do I read?” These are the questions that are frequently thrown at us by curious minds.
It is with an aim to answer these questions, that we at Quiz Club have come up with the idea of PRIMERS. A Primer is a document containing a set of facts or information about a specific topic like Sports, Science, Music, Art, Literature etc, presented in a crisp and concise manner. Simply put, someone having minimal knowledge in a topic, can pick up the Primer related to that topic and develop a general overview regarding it. Our first Primer, is the Sports Primer, containing a collection of facts about various sports and sporting events, some famous, some infamous. Read through it to gain a small but interesting idea about the world of sports.
Tennis presentation by engr. ghulam yasin taunsviShan Khan
Tennis is a racquet sport played between two players or teams of two players each. To start a point, one player serves the ball so that it passes over the net and into the other player's side of the court. The objective is to hit the ball in a way that the opponent cannot make a good return. Points are scored by the opponent failing to return the ball or hitting it out of bounds. Tennis originated in England in the late 19th century and is now an Olympic sport played worldwide at both professional and recreational levels.

Belgium vs Romania Injuries and Patience in Belgium’s Euro Cup Germany Squad....Eticketing.co
Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco will wait for several key players to recover from injury. Even if it means they miss the opening Euro Cup Germany stages of the European Championship in Germany this month. Veteran defender Jan Vertonghen, midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Arthur. Theate are being given time to play in the tournament because they are considered vital to Belgium’s cause, Tedesco said on Tuesday.

"Of course, you prefer to take players who are fully fit, but that's okay. We want to wait and be patient for some players even if they cannot play in those first matches," he told a press conference. The 37-year-old Vertonghen, Belgium’s Euro Cup 2024 most-capped international with 154 appearances, is struggling to shake off a groin injury.
"He will be there normally. This also applies to Youri Tielemans and Arthur Theate. The latter's position is very sensitive. We don't have many choices at left back. "It will only change if it turns out that they will only be available when, say, the final of the Euro 2024 Championship comes around. That's too long to wait. "However, I am confident that the injured boys are on track for the Euros.
Belgium vs Romania: Radu Dragusin Prepares for Crucial Role in Euro Cup Germany
Some of them have taken not one but two steps forward in their rehabilitation," he said. None of the injured players will feature in this week’s warm-up friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg. Romania centre-back Radu Dragusin found chances limited at Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
But is crucial to his country's cause at UEFA Euro 2024 where his aerial ability, physicality and hard graft make him a standout player. The 22-year-old moved to North London from Italian side Genoa in January but was kept on the sidelines by the form of another new arrival for the season, Mickey van de Ven, something Romania coach Edward Iordanescu admitted was a concern.
It will mean limited game-time going into the finals, but Dragusin, who cites Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk as a role model, started every Euro Cup Germany qualifier as Romania went through the campaign unbeaten in their 10 games. He will be among their most important players in their first game in Germany against Ukraine in Munich on June 17, taking the right centre-back role in what is likely to be a back four.

The Netherlands are in Group D in Euro Cup Germany - and, unpaid to this, they will be coming up against familiar foes. Remarkably, they have played France, who have fashioned some of the greatest players of all time, 30 times throughout history. Despite France being more effective in major competitions, including captivating the World Cup in 2018, Holland have the greater head-to-head record.

However, in 2023, they played one another twice, with France endearing both matches 4-0 and 2-1 individually. Against Poland and Austria, the Netherlands also have a stout record, winning just under half the matches. They faced Austria at Euro 2020, engaging 2-0, and they haven't lost to Poland since 1979.
The lettering is on the wall for Holland to qualify for the knockouts, but nothing is failsafe. The Netherlands kickstart their Euros campaign against Poland on Sunday, June 16th. In Hamburg, they will have to go up against one of the best strikers in the world, Robert Lewandowski.
Netherlands vs Austria: Tough Challenges Await the Netherlands in Euro Cup Germany
Five days later, they travel south to face France in Leipzig, a side led by Kylian Mbappe - one of the finest players in the world currently and one of the most impressive players in his nation's history. To conclude, they face Austria in Berlin, knowing it could be the end of the road if they don't perform.
Ronald Koeman is widely considered one of the more successful Dutch managers in Premier League history, considering the nation has a reputation for struggling to replicate their talents in England. The former Everton manager went against that script and shone — and now he is back managing his nation.

Netherlands vs Austria: Ronald Koeman's Tactical Approach For UEFA Euro 2024
As well as being the highest-scoring defender in history, Koeman is a man with immense tactical knowledge. He returned to manage Holland at the start of 2023 after it was announced Louis van Gaal would retire. His life back in the dugout with the team wasn't easy, as he lost his first match 4-0 to France after going 3-0 down within 21 minutes.
However, he eventually helped them qualify for Euro Cup Germany. The 61-year-old likes to organize his team with a defensive mindset. Some might call it pragmatic as he defends with minimal space between the lines, but that's often needed for international football.

Psaroudakis: Family and Football – The Psaroudakis Success StoryPsaroudakis
Psaroudakis, a name that resonates with football fans around the globe, is a testament to the powerful synergy between familial support and individual passion. Born on March 10, 1992, in the historic city of Heraklion, Crete, Psaroudakis’ journey to international football stardom is a compelling narrative of dedication, perseverance, and unwavering family support. His story not only highlights his athletic prowess but also underscores the crucial role his family played in shaping his career and character.
Psaroudakis’ early life in Heraklion was deeply influenced by a supportive and nurturing family environment. His father, a former semi-professional footballer, recognized Psaroudakis’ potential from an early age. Acting as his first coach, his father’s guidance was instrumental in igniting Psaroudakis’ passion for football. This paternal influence instilled in him a strong work ethic and fundamental skills that would become the foundation of his future success. His mother, a dedicated homemaker, provided a stable and nurturing environment, ensuring that Psaroudakis could pursue his dreams without any hindrances.
From a young age, Psaroudakis showed an innate talent for football. Growing up in Heraklion, he spent countless hours playing football in local parks and streets with friends and family. His natural ability was evident even in these informal settings, and his enthusiasm for the game was infectious. By the age of five, Psaroudakis had joined a local youth football club, where his skills began to flourish. His father’s role as his first coach during these formative years was crucial, as he emphasized not only technical skills but also the importance of discipline and teamwork.
The transition from playing in local parks to joining a structured football environment marked a significant step in Psaroudakis’ journey. At the age of ten, he joined the youth academy of OFI Crete, one of Greece’s most esteemed football clubs. This move marked the beginning of a more rigorous and professional approach to his training. The academy environment was demanding, focusing on honing technical abilities and instilling values of sportsmanship and dedication. Psaroudakis’ dedication to his craft was evident as he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a standout player in the youth teams.
The support of Psaroudakis’ family was unwavering during this critical period. His father continued to be a source of guidance and mentorship, while his mother ensured that he had everything he needed to succeed. Their collective efforts created a balanced environment where Psaroudakis could focus entirely on his development as a footballer. This familial support was not just about providing the basics; it was about creating an environment where Psaroudakis felt encouraged and motivated to pursue his dreams relentlessly.
As Psaroudakis transitioned from the youth academy to professional football, the challenges became more significant.

3. INTRODUCTION
Wimbledon Championships is a tennis tournament organized by the All
England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which takes place in June/July
for two weeks (if the rain not appears) in Wimbledon, London, since
1877. It’s the oldest and most prestigious tennis world tournament, and is
the third Grand Slam in the year, the only one in grass. These last two
reasons fill with pride to British people.
Individual tournaments simultaneously male and female, male and female
doubles and mixed doubles are played. Single young men and women and
doubles tournaments are also played. Added to this, special invitations to
tournaments with retired players (men's doubles over 35 and over 45, and
women's doubles over 35) are made.
4. HISTORY
First table of this tournament arranged for 22 players (men's singles only).
The following year the picture became 34 players, and the next 45. In
1884 the women's singles and men's doubles were added. And women's
doubles and mixed doubles were incorporated in 1913.
As mentioned, Wimbledon tennis tournament is the oldest and most
prestigious in the world. In 2013, a British Andy Murray again won the
men's singles championship after 75 years (Fred Perry). The last woman
was Virginia Wade in 1977.
6. HISTORY
I & II WORlD WaRS
The tournament has only been stopped play twice since its inception in
1877. As happened with the Olympic Games, only the two world wars
could disrupt this event.
CHAMPION CHAMPIONFINALIST FINALIST
7. This tournament has always been organized by the "All England Lawn
Tennis and Croquet Club." A private tennis club, which was founded in
1868, based in Wimbledon, London and nonprofit that invests its profits
in the development and learning of this sport.
The club has 375 full members, about 100 temporary members and a
number of honorary members, including Wimbledon singles champions
and people who have rendered distinguished services to the
championship. An exception was John McEnroe, who after winning
Wimbledon in 1981 was not admitted to the club for misconduct on the
pitch. Two years later they decided to accept honorary members.
8. FACILITIES
The All England Lawn Tennis Club has 17 tracks and two stages of grass to
organize this legendary championship in Church Road, Wimbledon, since 1922.
The Centre Court is the oldest and has undergone numerous reforms. In World
War II the various projectiles were intended to recover and investment was
important. Recently it built a retractable roof to avoid the problem of rain and
increased the maximum capacity up to 15,000 spectators. At this stage the media
parties in participating, especially, are vying for the seedings in addition, of course,
the final.
A fact of relevance are the prices of the latter party. From 1200 € to 4900 €. To
attend a Wimbledon final not only you have to have the money but you have to
spend a lot, since the tickets do not go directly for sale.
9.
10. CALENDAR
The final tournament of Wimbledon officially begins six weeks before the first
Monday in August, on the third week of June and lasts fifteen days. Traditionally
the "Middle Sunday" no match is played as the English society had always been
very important fact attend Mass the Lord's day.
However, and as already mentioned briefly above, there are a series of
preliminary rounds to finish complete the picture with 86 players missing. These
three rounds are played one week before the start of the tournament.
All tournament matches are played with an intermediate rest day to ensure the
recovery of the player from the first round to the same end.
At dawn, all tracks are watered with an exact amount of water and then covered
with the famous canvas for spray does not affect turf conditions and the parties
can begin early in the day.
11. WHO PLAYS WIMBLEDON?
Unlike other international championships, Wimbledon did not play the best
positioned in the ATP ranking, but to reach the final table of the tournament,
which includes 128 players must follow a complex process of scoring and
classification. In this way the organization supports amateur sport that was
responsible for the creation and progress of the tournament.
The first 32 enrollees are the best on the grass surface in the last twelve
months. Another 86 will spend three qualifying rounds a week before the start
of Wimbledon against the best. The remaining ten are at the discretion of the
organization. 8 players are awarded called "Wild Cards" and two "Lose Cards"
are for the two best players who have not managed to qualify in the
preliminary rounds.
13. AWARDS
POINTS
These points are accounted for in the same way
as is done with other international tournaments,
using as a benchmark the performance of the
previous year. Recall that the ATP list is
published every Monday throughout the year,
and in this case also does end on Monday after
the tournament. The score is different for each
category, as well as economic rewards.
14. AWARDS
TROPHIES
The trophies awarded to the winners of each category of Wimbledon are only
for the ceremony and subsequent photographs. After recording the winner's
name on the long list of club, he takes home a replica of the trophy. By this
we mean that is the historic gold trophy almost centenary raising each year
the winner of the championship. For a few moments they can lift the trophy
for decades raised their idols and historical players.
15. PRIZES
MONEY
The All England Lawn Tennis Club distributes each year more than eleven
million pounds in cash as a prize according to their final grade, reaching
deal in 2012 to sixteen million pounds.
Only the men's draw and ten million work as even the player who stays in
first round wins £ 14,000. The winner and the winner in the branch
Singles take £ 1,150,000 each. The runner-up gets a reward of more than
half a million pounds, both male and female single individual. The
semifinalists earn about £ 250,000, and so on.
But this compensation can say that is relatively young, since the first
tournament participants paid was in 1968, £ 26,150. In 2001 it was when
the company began to be significantly increased with a cumulative total of
£ 8,497,450.
16. 3TH GRAND SLAM
Wimbledon is the third of the four major international tennis championships
and the only tournament in grass. Although all are of great importance for
all players, is this that expect to arrive throughout the year for its tradition
and history.

NICOLAS MAHUT – JOHN ISNER
The longest match in tennis history also took place in this great tournament in
the second round of 2010, in the club track number 18, between Nicolas
Mahut and John Isner.
18. ANECDOTES
NICOLAS MAHUT – JOHN ISNER
The party broke a series of records, including: longest match (11 hours and 5
minutes); longest set (the fifth set lasted 8 hours and 11 minutes); more games
in a set (138 in the fifth set); more games in a game (183); as many aces (aces)
performed by a single player in a game (Isner, 112); and as many aces in a
game (215).
In addition, Queen Elizabeth II attended a
match at Wimbledon after more than three
decades to do so to witness the end of the
match that took place two days after the
start.
The fifth set is extended for eight hours and eleven minutes duration alone it
is longer than the entire length of the previous longest match of tennis history.
19. ANECDOTES
SOME CURIOSITIES
Like any major tournament, Wimbledon has its little curiosities. Facilities
at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club are built on a hill. The
architect so advised for two reasons. One was to make the club a reference
in the city, they wanted to imitate the Greeks and make the club Mount
Olympus Wimbledon. The other had to do with lawn maintenance of each
and every one of the tracks. A high area where moisture was always
present and the few rays of sunshine that reached the city they were not
hindered by any buildings.
Today, every year at Wimbledon over 650 330 matches officiated by
referees are played; There are 132 boys and girls balls; 220 security staff;
16 of the press; 150 people drive cars courtesy; They work 10
physiotherapists. Each party changes the balls for the first time after 7
games and then every 9; and 31,200 balls are used throughout the
tournament, which is then sold to clubs affiliated to the Lawn Tennis
Asociation.
20. ANECDOTES
BALLS
One thing that we believe is relevant is the fact that year after year since
1902, the balls used in this tournament have always been provided by the
same brand. Slazenger takes to be the official ball of the championship
over 110 years and much has evolved since its debut in material and
weight and dimensions.
21. ANECDOTES
BEHAVIORAL DOCTRINE
It is the only tournament where required to dress for both men and women is
nearly 100% white. The players are always named as "Miss" or "Mrs" (Miss
or Mrs.) during the game (for example when the referee scores). Men are
appointed only by his surname.
22. BEST SHOTS
The most characteristic of technical blow grass surface, and therefore
Wimbledon, is the sliced backhand. Having launched in the attacking
half, the ball almost not catch up and the opponent is forced to make a
more pronounced parable thus losing power in the coup. Furthermore,
minimally wet grass, the ball slides a few centimeters from the surface at
breakneck speed.
23. RELEVANT TENNIS PLAYERS
In this tournament they have left their mark the best tennis players in history . Their
names and performances have been recorded many times in this competition. Starting
with Martina Navratilova that won nine silver trays (trophy for women's singles
champion). And ending with the sisters Williams, a part of her championships as a
couple, they have five (Venus) and six (Serena) individual titles.
24. RELEVANT TENNIS PLAYERS
First to get seven titles at Wimbledon was a Briton, William Renshaw. In
1881 he won the first and in 1889, the last. A century later repeated the feat
Pete Sampras, he gets his first title in 1993 and the last in 2000. But the
American legend was destroyed before provisions by a very young 19-year
tennis player from Switzerland. In a match of the second round of
Wimbledon 2001, Roger Federer eliminated the best tennis player at the
moment. Two years later, Federer won his first Wimbledon. In 2012 he won
the seventh and joined the short list of legendary Wimbledon. This victory
also served to register as number one in the ATP Ranking.
