Hockey is a team sport played on ice that is most popular in Canada, the United States, and Russia. It originated from European immigrant games and the first indoor hockey game took place in Montreal in 1875. Canada has had tremendous success in international hockey competitions like the World Junior Championships and Winter Olympics, strengthening hockey's role as an integral part of Canadian national identity and culture.
