AGILE TESTING DAYS

   Awareness Fields and
      Agile Testing

                By Rob Lambert
A story of
being stuck
in the
corporate
cog of
conformism
“With a narrow awareness,
you will be surprised often”

               Tai Chi Master
An Agile Tester?
A Traditional Tester?
Do agile testers have wider
awareness than traditional
testers?

Is it the process?

      Or the people?

Or not true at all?
Awareness is the ability to
feel, perceive, know and
be conscious of yourself
and the world around you.
Social Personal
(situational)
A wider awareness often leads to more choice
Awider awareness allow you to choose a path
……..rather than just accept any path
“When everyone in the team knows
what everyone else is doing, they
can co-ordinate efforts and avoid
unnecessary duplication of work”

Adrian Cho – The Jazz Process
“The first step toward change is
awareness. The second step is
acceptance.”

Nathaniel Branden
You need to
know
yourself
You need to
know
your
limits
Experiment with your own
ways of managing:

   • What you already know / control
   • What you can change / influence
   • What you don’t know / out of control
Learning Roadmap
“Awareness increases our
knowledge and knowledge enriches
us”

Tony Schwartz – The Way We’re
Working Isn’t Working
Isn’t agile geared towards
raising awareness?
  • What do we know? (is it right?)
  • What can we change?
  • What can’t we change?
  • Are we building the right thing?
  • Is the customer happy?
  • How can we improve as a team?

…..And many more variations on this.
Remember all that choice?

                     Lots of
                     choice isn’t
                     always a
                     good thing
What if you’re running down
the wrong lane?
Social
Media
and social
tools are
modern
ways of
widening
awareness
Twitter
Communities
Reading Lists
Social Tagging
Do Agile Testers have
a wider awareness
than traditional?
   Not always

 But agile (or common sense
 development) gives you an environment
to be a first class tester
