Why do we need women
on corporate boards?
Women held only ONE in FIVE board seats at
S&P 500 companies in 2015
Based on current numbers, if the rate of women joining
boards DOUBLED it would still take FORTY YEARS for
there to be gender equality on boards.
So what are companies are missing? Why is it
so important to have women on boards?
#1 Diversity Breeds Creativity
Women bring diversity by:
• Bringing different
perspectives to the table
that can result in better
decision-making
• Adapting easily to changes
• Providing intuitive thought,
critical listening skills, and
memory
#2 Workers represent constituents
Boards of directors have vital impacts on the company and the
community, so it is important that the board members are
representative of the company’s constituents.
#3 Women on boards lift up other women
Women on boards…
• Create opportunities for women throughout the
organization
• Increase the likelihood of a woman becoming CEO
• Increase the success of a woman CEO
• Create talent pipelines
• Act as role models
• Open the door for women in high-level positions
So why do we need women
on corporate boards?
