The Nansha Free Trade Port Zone was designed to provide the highest level of convenience through China's most favorable trade policies. It combines the functions of a free trade port, bonded logistics park, and export processing zone to enjoy preferential policies. Nansha offers the closest proximity to key cities in the Pearl River Delta region, resulting in significantly lower transportation fees compared to other nearby ports. - The Free Trade Port of Nansha was approved by the State Council on Oct 18, 2008 , and passed the official inspection from National Ministries on July 9, 2009. It has an area of 7.06 Square Km, of which; 1.36 km2 is for the Export Processing Zone, 1.44 km2 is for NBLC and Feeder Terminals, and 4.26 km2 is for Phase I and Phase II of Nansha Port.
- The Nansha Port, encompassing a total planning area of 4.26 square meters, is currently the only deep-water port on the western bank of the Pearl Delta. The port currently has 10, 100,000 ton deep water berths, with an additional six planned to be in service by the end of 2010. In 2009, the port had an annual throughput amount of 6.5 million TEUs. The terminal is equipped with the latest information systems and mechanical equipment to meet the needs of all container loading/unloading and storage, including climate-controlled and dangerous cargo. In addition, the port offers 24-hour clearance and security. As a result of its high caliber, the Nansah port has attracted 20 of the world’s most renowned container lines including CSCL, COSCO, MAERSK, HAPAG LLOYD, and EVERGREEN, and is currently operating international sea lines to Europe, America, Africa, Australia, South East Asia, and the Middle East. - Nansha is located at the geometric center of the Pearl River Delta, offing it prime access to the region. Within 70 kilometers, Nansha has access to 7 airports and 14 major cities giving access to over 50,000,000 Because of it’s central location, when compared with other regional ports, Nansha can boast the closest proximity to the greatest number of key PRD cities; including Zhongshan (click), Dongguan (click), Jiangmen (click), Zhuhai (click), and the Panyu District of Guangzhou (click). Nansha also has convenient access to Hong Kong and Macau within 38 and 41 nautical miles respectively. The other ports, Huangpu, located in Guangzhou, and Yantian and Shekou, located in Shenzhen, only have the closest proximity to their respective cities. - Because Nansha’s location makes it possible to access more cities, with less distance, Nansha can provide significantly lower transportation rates to and from those cities. The chart is a list of quoted transit costs in RMB, of Nansha versus the rates of Hong Kong and Shenzhen by barge and by truck. - Continuing with the discussion of value, Nansha, as a new port with much less traffic, cheaper land, and cheaper labor, offers average port operation fees. These fees include unloading fees, stacking and storage fees, port construction fees, and security fees. As you can see, Nansha is less than half the average cost of Hong Kong ports and is less than 2/3 the cost of Shenzhen. (click)
- Now I have been discussing transportation costs with you. Now I want to discuss other costs – the bigger costs. But first, let’s have a look at some nearby cities. (click) First we have Hong Kong the fourth most densely populated city in the world, next we have Shenzhen, home to China’s largest GDP per capita (click), Guangzhou – China’s third largest city(click), and finally I want to show you Nansha (click). Now you may notice a bit of difference between the four. Nansha is a rarity in South China, despite transportation infrastructure, it is relatively undeveloped. (click)
- This translates into (click) lower property costs. Hong Kong, especially, is one of the most expensive places in the world to buy or lease property, and as you can see, Nansha has plenty to spare. (click) With room to expand and develop – as many operations in Shenzhen and Hong Kong have found themselves tapped out. (click) Because of the availability of land, Nansha has a lower cost of living your workers. Which translates into (click) paying salaries on parity with the local economy. Now this last one is huge. The average per capita income in Hong Kong is $43,000 USD, in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, it is lower at a bit over $10,000 USD. Now of course these incomes are based upon averages, and the average warehouse worker would receive less than these figures… But the average salary per worker in Nansha is approximately $2,000 USD per year. This alone could mean saving 10’s if not 100’s of thousands of dollars a year by locating in Nansha. This, reduced land costs, reduced port operation costs, and reduced transportation costs is clearly one reason why Nansha. But the headline for this is section is value…which includes more than just price.
- Now this is a brief overview of Bonded Logistics Parks… Now prior to the BLP, Free Trade Zones were separated from ports requiring customs inspection to take place both at the port and the free trade zone or bonded storage facility. A bonded logistics park comprises multiple logistics enterprises within its location, combining the role of a Free Trade Zone and a Free Trade Port. In doing this, Bonded logistics parks can simplify procedures and speed up cargo circulation by achieving “inside territory, outside customs” or that goods in the BLP are not subject to tax or duty unless entering the domestic market. The BLP’s design is ideal for import/export trade, transshipment, distribution, kitting, consolidation or deconsolidation, procurement, and entrepot trade.

Via Jingzhu Expressway to the North, Nansha Logistics Park provides (click) easy access to Donguan and continuing access to Shenzhen (click) and to the Bao’an airport (click). Hong Kong is easily accessible via the port.
